I guess ANET decided 2014 will be the year of teaser videos instead of preview pages.

They are testing stuff with less hype.

That’s not a teaser trailer / page for the living story. That’s just 1 feature presented…nothing story wise. It’s as valid as a video about “we added 1 extra BL trading post NPC”

ehh.. I don’t think this is less hype. The preview page told you exactly what was in the patch, no more no less.. I think they are trying to show less so that it makes the patch seem bigger when it comes out. So… reverse psychology hype.

Thats what I’ve gathered. I don’t like it, since we had more info about the patches with the preview/release pages. Hopefully they go back to those, especially with the new format on the release pages.

I really dislike the new form of preview. It’s only one, short video. They are nice but it’s not enough, 2013 form was MUCH better.

I think they are trying to eliminate a lot of the leaked info that people were using to make a profit off the TP. By releasing less info to the various review sources, as well as the general public, they are reducing the chance that people can exploit that info for profit in game. Either that or they decided suspense is the new PR Strategy for 2014.

or there is just nothing to preview since all features got bundled into a single patch at some future date.

Thats what I’ve gathered. I don’t like it, since we had more info about the patches with the preview/release pages. Hopefully they go back to those, especially with the new format on the release pages.

There is only a little new story content. Not much to show on the release page. And it is almost the end of the story arch. They don’t want to spoil the LS finale.

Since there isn’t any features being added in these 4 final patches why should there be a page to spoil even a bit of the story? The trailer is fine, but I DO expect them to go back to the old style after march 4th living story I think thats when the 4th one is.

To be fair I would say that a whole new map full with new mechanics is a rather large amount of features.

Same with the two bosses which both had new mechanics.

I do see your point, but calling it no new features is quite silly.

That brings up a good point though. The Developers said that these 4 patches would be LS. After that, a huge features type patch will come. I kinda assumed Balance updates, the Edge of The Mists and things like that would be in that big Features patch, but now we are getting it.

So what will come in this features patch? I guess we know it will be some new sPvP skills, the new Ferocity stat, and some reworks of sigils and runes, unless of course those will come too before March-ish.. What will be coming though? Hmmmmm

I think it’s just better marketing tactic for them.
More people will watch some “cool” 1-2 minute trailer than read wall of text. It isn’t that bad.

You play the game anyway, regardless. So you’ll eventually see everything.
If you watch previews thinking of “coming back” or similar I’m-dissapointed-but sad story stuff, preview alone will not bring you back to the game. You’ll still wait for patch to hit.

New previews don’t concern me that much. They want to keep things more mysterious, okay no problem.

Only thing what they really have to list is balance notes.

Indeed, I was 100% set on Edge of the Mists being released in that patch, so a bit surprised that we got it this early.

This might suggest that they are aiming on releasing quite big stuff that we have not yet heard about. There are some rumors about new sPvP types being in the work, and that could definitely be considered featurey enough to be a main point of that map.

It is also possible that we might get more PvE maps unlocked and so on.

I am actually getting quite interested now ^^

no, it wasnt, there was also a story instance, scarlet’s secret lab, and the the ability to destroy and harvest thumpers… none of these three elements were listed in the trailer, but would have been included in 2013’s style of preview pages. So what is featured in the video is NOT all we’re going to receive.

Since this is the lead up to the season one LS finale, I think they’re withholding information so they don’t spoil anything early.

‘oh wait…’ could be “oh wait, they didn’t” or “oh wait, they did”… I took it as the former, and for that I apologize.

It’s honestly better this way. They aren’t over hyping things, and they’re leaving things a mystery. That means less people disappointed from marketing tactics and more people pleasantly surprised through ignorance (yes ignorance can be bliss).

You can watch the Friday Livestream on it on Twitch. I guess that’s as close as you’ll get to a preview now Although it only talks about EotM, no story stuff, but that’s good, leaving it a mystery!

I think it has more to do with the nature of the last few updates. They’re story focused and most of the pertinent info is in the videos. Even the interviews they’ve done have been a bit spartan due to that. They could talk about boss mechanics, but that’s about it.

You could do a page on EOTM, but it’s been talked about/previewed so much, I don’t know if it would be worth it.

We probably won’t see a real preview of stuff to come until season 1 is over. Maybe this big feature update thing will have something that takes it’s place.
