New patch is not epic at all
It’s called hype and you fell for it.
– Euripides
I actually did!
You’re right … i fell for it and so did alot of other people.
Were just sitting at the camp where the event tracker told us to and just sitting here…waiting…ya know..experiencing this amazing content…not
yep this is probably the worst update i’ve ever seen for this game, and its the first for 2014 which already means this kitten is starting off on a bad note.
the new ascended helms you get from the wurm are kittening disgusting, it looks like you have herpies. the story makes no sense, you have to wait what like 3 hours to do the next event after you fail. the giant robot fight should have been an epic 10 player dungeon/instance but instead we get kittenty zerg fest.

I was already today, then I saw that it was the same old zerg boss fight and a go here click on item missions.
Not to mention the the skill bar not working bug and disappearing mobs. That was a load of kitten. I logged in, tried them both and immediately logged off out of disgust.
They can have this. I’ll be checking back in to see if any new weapons or skills get added in the future. I’m tired of getting dumped in obscure overflows too. Pass.
I logged in again to try it out. Not a fun update for me.
It’s kind of funny. I really like how my thief plays, but the world/content just isn’t fun to play it in.
Can I have your stuff?
Personally the only living world update that was ever decent for me was Super Adventure Box its actually done well and not overly hyped…. a side note not only is this current living story lame and disappointing but it is also sad to see the year is starting off with no change to the “Show me” button in the meta mails.
Big claims aka “hype” has to have something to stand on on releases otherwise it just makes the company look bad and damages the player faith within said company.
I don’t doubt this topic will get deleted though almost all talking ill about the patch have been removed but hopefully that’s just because others were being crude.

desappearing? well then i m not stupid xD mobs event real desappearing xD
Since the first Karka “event” i stopped being excited by the concept of an update.
This “living story” update is yet another i shant bother with.
The out-of-the-blue consumable nerf is what it will be remembered for.
how can anybody enjoy something that consist of a zerg lag fest?
So much story, right….there is ZERO story to this.
Much rather have 5-10 man content that tells a engaging story and where i don’t have to worry about my screen stuttering and having over 50+ people on my screen at once. This isnt fun, nor is a story being told. The strategy’s are nice and all, but this is called a “LIVING” “STORY” and neither of those points are hit at all, they are timed events meant to go off over a certain period of time.
There isnt any story..
Arenanet, you guys have got to get yourselves together, who let this pass? The community as a whole feels cheated by how much you pumped up this update.
I was disappointed, because I logged in with my ~hour-ish I had to play tonight. I read my mail and instantly WPd to Lornar’s for this epic fight. I then hear that it happened and the next one is in 1 hour and 45 minutes from now. I sigh in disappointment and go on over to Bloodtide to check that out. I find a few commander pins congregating, so I figured that it meant something was going on there. I waypointed to them to find a good hundred or so people idling together, with a bit of idle chatter. Idle chatter that included ‘there is no point in doing the wurm right now, it’s bugged’.
After all that, I logged out. I cannot really speak to the content, as I haven’t tried it. What disappoints me are these predictable and long spawn times. Why does everyone know exactly when the marionette is going to spawn? Why do you want us to sit around for 2 hours to play it? Is this not the same company that would give hourly updates asking us to take a break in GW1?
Open world is fine, but maybe allow the event to be triggered somehow? Otherwise make it an instance? Maybe just have the marionette constantly there with rapid respawn? I don’t know exactly the ‘best’ way to do it, but I don’t think the current way is the best.
I liked the Flame and Frost dungeon. Aside from that I can’t say I’ve found any of this Scarlet stuff exciting. It’s just a new grind, whether a champ chain or something else, and there is nothing entertaining about not working for my reward. Some people enjoy it but I’d take their opinion with a grain of salt, see prior comment. I just wish we’d be deeper in the Maguuma Jungle, or exploring the Northern Shiverpeaks. We could even be heading to Elona while battling the necromancer’s minions in the Crystal Desert. I thought we’d be heading there when the Bazaar launched but sadly no.

If they just let players have more control over the groups they go with and when it spawns (like raids for example), it would be soooooo muchhhh betterrr. If I can get on, organize a group of 50 players from my guild, then we go to an area and join an instance to start the boss fight; I would have SO much more fun. We fail? Then we would just get kicked out and do it again.
This stuff they have doing is you are grouped with 50 other random players and it spawns every 2 hours so it is a big hassle to set a time when you get the most of your friends online.
Just be patient, the next patch will surely be epic! /s

This patch was epic. The boss fights are fun. IT is just the horrific timed spawned and overflow/none instanced design that is causing a lot more frustrations and angers among the playerbase.
Gotta say I’m not a fan of instant death mechanics in games especially when I was just walking by. They need to make it so you only die if you’re in the kitten lanes.
(Actually I think such mechanics are cheap and lazy but that’s another story… >.>)

Not sure why everyone is surprised. We knew it would be zerg content which leads to lag and factors you can’t control such as who you pick to do it.
I logged in got to the marionette which just started made it to the part where you had to blow up 5 generators I belive we got 4/5 nobody was in the 5th circle so we wiped. Everyone in chat starts saying what happened this is when I face Palm and say enough is enough with this zerg content and clueless players

This update isnt terribly exciting but its only the first of the the last four living story season one updates. based on reports from anet and fansites,I have a feeling something BIG is coming in the final installment and that the next update will be better.
This is definately better then the first update we got last january for flame and frost.

We have heard those lines from ArenaNet with every single LS update. They have consistently failed to deliver on their word. Why should we expect the last three LS installments to be any better than the previous ones? Because Anet said so?
so disappointed… I thought there was going to be some sort of event chain to lead up to the marionette. I got the letter in the mail telling me where to go. I get there and there’s nothing there… no escort, no direction… I went to the other point on the map from the mail and there were people, but again… no npc’s to talk to nothing.
My problem is direction is vague at best.

Just you wait, the next update will be awesome!

There. I have you covered until the end of this Living Story. And then:
Just you wait, Living Story Season 2 will be awesome!
Okay you don’t like it, what do you want though? What WOULD be good? And people’s ‘solutions’ to what they think is the problem usually isn’t viable, like making an instance for 50 people for a boss or whatever. How would you do an open world boss to make it good? How would you tell the story better to make it feel epic?

A 50 man instance is perfectly viable. ArenaNet just has no desire to instance the world bosses. They think having major bad guys in the open world somehow makes the world feel alive. Ignoring the fact that it completely empties all zones in which there is no event.
For an open world boss to be ‘good’, it needs to scale well with the group size. If 5 people are the only ones attempting the fight, those 5 people should stand a chance of killing the boss.
It’s not zerg content, per se, because there are strategies involved in the encounters. I mean, this isn’t the Queen’s Jubilee or Scarlet Invades. Those were zerg content.

I get the lower scaling thing to an extent, but if you can just find 3 people and go, I think it wouldn’t seem as epic and people would master it in a day and say it’s too easy, boring, like dungeons have become, so I think it has to have SOME people. (Though 50 or so is too high a requirement, I agree.) As for the instanced versions, since a lot more ‘casual’ type players (like me) play the game, organizing 20+ people for any type of instanced version of a boss would royally suck.
I know the system isn’t anywhere near perfect, but I am enjoying what we got, and can definitely see them improving in a lot of ways, even if it’s still frustrating some people. I think we’ll get a good balance of difficult based on skill versus player count as time goes on, but I also know some people are getting real impatient with Anet. :/

Boss fight mechanics good, waiting for an hour in map, not so good.
Also until ANet incorporates a voice client into the game, I see no reason for them to design content that requires such co-ordination. I know for a fact that when I am trying to stay alive, dodge red circles, and in general use my keys to the best effect, I don’t have the time to type unless I want to die a horrible death thus hurting my team.

Im not just going by anets word,Its not just anet saying so but fansite who are in the know of whats coming and cant say anything. While im admittedly a bit skeptical,im also optistimitic they will truly deliver. I read an article and they exact words regarding the last four ls season one updates was “enough to excite even a bystander” . But judging solely by the first update…its definately better then last years first flame and frost update and excites me just enough to make me want to see whats next
Also i truly believe arenanet is good at learning from their mistakes…just not always good at the execution part. We dont know whats coming next and also it takes time for our feedback to bear fruit. It hasnt yet been 4 months since the living story cdi started/took place.

Different things to do for different playstyles .. some solo stuff .. some zerg/grind stuff .. something to explore .. and also maybe a boss.
Something more like Zephyr Sanctum or Queens Jubilee .. and not all the last updates where we just had one thing to do and if you don’t like it .. then there was nothing else to do for you.
And of course no Pseudo-Raids that can’t be done with random people and that don’t scale in the open world.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
