Random one-shots are not fun.

Add those to the AOE poison, huge quantities of nasty mobs spawning all around…
It’s a bit much for an area you are supposed to just be traveling through.

I wen’t through the area just fine, they really aren’t hidden.

I’m sure some players are better than others, and I’m also sure some classes can deal with it better than others. But there are a LOT of downed and dead players on the map so I am not imagining this.

which living story update did NOT introduce lots of dead players on the respective map?
Kuraii wiped entire zergs regularly… “What? you need to dodge AoE even with a zerg?”
Mad Kings Labyrinth has always been known for causing lots of deaths to solo players… This year, they stepped things up a notch. “What? That thing just keeps knocking me back and back and back? And what’s that strange stuff on the ground?”
Don’t even want to talk of the elite twisted nightmares and the condition pressure in general roflstomping entire zergs during the first invasions… “What? Did I just die to burn damage? In PvE? And where do these 25 confusion stacks come from?”
Remember Tequatl? “We scratched 5% and the timer ran out. This event is impossible.”
Cmon. Just man the kitten up and get out there smashing things. The tower isn’t really hard, it simply doesn’t allow for mistakes when you run Zerk. (hint: PVT)
People should really start making it a habit to enter every new Living world content in PVT first and then switch to their zerk gear once they got the mechanics down and know when to dodge. It would significantly reduce the number of bodies littering the floor.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.

It’s pretty easy to avoid the spores, even with the mobs on your tail.
The mobs themselves however, at least on the third floor, are the real threat.

And how is that different then the first day of nearly every other release?
I don’t see a problem with the one-shot-flowers.
- they have a well visible aoe circle
- they are big and easy to see
- they are easy to avoid
- they are easy to dodge
Only one thing is really crappy
That spiderboss that puts you into a cocon and then spawns these flowers around you^^

I learned this the hard way lol.
Got downed about 3-4 times and must have spent a total of 5 minutes getting back up.
I’m a new player. I can’t compare it to older releases.
But it’s an order of magnitude harder than the release two weeks ago, and substantially harder even than the Mad King’s labyrinth, in terms of just trying to get from point A to point B without dying.
By themselves I could avoid those flower things. But there are too many mobs, and it seems like 1/4 of them are veterans or elites, and all of it put together is overdone.
I’m certainly going to keep at it. I like the update, overall I think it’s well done and shows a lot of work and care went into it. I just think they need to ratchet back the difficulty in getting from one place to another or it will be a ghosttown very quickly. It’s frustrating as it is now.
Yeah, i wonder how week two will go when we are left with chest zergs from L3 onwards, and a dead zone for L1 and L2.
It’ll be a lot less than a week is my guess.
It’s one thing when a zerg makes things easier, and another when it’s all but required except for very skilled players on specific builds.
hi, my name is anet and i make content for heavy armor classes only….if you decided to play anything else we will make sure that you reroll

The only issue I’ve had with it is when I avoid one, and someone triggers one in front that happens to go off right as I get in that area with mobs around. I’ve only had this issue in one hallway that has a bunch of these mines with several adds that also spawn AoE’s, so if theres a lot of people you just cant see the AoE circles easily.

hard to avoid when its random person #3549 setting it off and you don’t notice then fly off the edge and die.
the mines and immobilizes to the point there probably isn’t a class that can clear it being applied 7 times in the span of 10 seconds…..aren’t particularly fun when both are combined.
The tower is a clusterkitten of bad design and content Anet designed for players to work together…
Only they don’t.
Which leads to this.
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
I actually like the place and looked forward to exploring right away since you don’t need to be in a dungeon group. I’m in my 40s leveled up to 80. But after a few one-shots and then paying the repair…well doing anymore this is just being a martyr. Join a group? Then why go against the grain and say you don’t need one. In many games, I would expect “nerf incoming”, but they usually don’t do that for a LS. I was able to get through the very first story that led up to meeting Marjory though several months ago…it was hard but I wasn’t getting one-shotted. I think that was a level 16 too.
It was great fun joining the first zerg up to the top of the tower, loads of us rushing up killing everything on the way.
Not so much fun now, getting downed by a stupid flower thing and then dead as another one goes off before you get time to recover from downed state.
Edit………
In fact just been in there up on the higher levels, and it’s actually no fun at all, pay 5 silver to go to level 3 and die many times, nobodies going to res you because they will just die as well.
Great game Anet…….

I somehow died after entering level 3… no enemy or flower, just sudden dead.
It was a safezone and i could port there afterwards…
So how did i die? i had full health, no downstate in between, just sudden death, BAM.
Is there a gamemechanic i don`t know about?
Sorry…just tried 15 more times. This is a gold sink. Reminds me a lot of DDO where they kill you off in dungeons hoping you’ll use the cash shop to by a repair thing. I’m done but nice job with the artwork as usual.
23 silver in repair plus waypointing and nothing to show for it…and that’s a lot for a level 40.

Yes, it’s called ANet.
I give up, rubbish, your healths forever dropping, heal skills take too long to regen, it’s just insta gib time and time again…………….
Just a massive gold sink and way too frustating.
I feel bad running past people that are downed, but what can you do, stop and your dead as well…..
I actually like the concept. This is what Orr should have been with sequenced events, players needing to clear the path etc.
The only problem there is this concent is presented as soloable – and it clearly is not. A group can do it ok, with zerg its breeze. Solo? Only if others cleared the path.
The events that block way, monsters that CC constantly, respawn rate, veterans and elites with insta attacks on wooden platforms – its a pain in the kitten. Spores are the least problem since you can see and easily avoid them.
Omg stop crying seriously, tris IS an open world multiplayer content, if you don’t want to go in with pvt gear, get a couple of friends and kill everything; it will be slower than a rush but you’ll get loots and you won’t die, plus you’ll need to reach the top only 2 times to get all the achis.
Andúnë Faroth, level 80 sylvari ranger.
I agree. It’s a really cool place. I would love to just explore it and kill mobs on the way. It’s far from solo though. If you aren’t a big zerg, forget it. And I hate standing there watching a dying player knowing that if I try to help, I’m just gonna join him.
Jarek, not all players are playing with a group of friends. GW2’s flexibility is what brought so many of the “casual solo-mmo’ers” over to this game….the idea of being alone in the crowd, and there is a market for that even if it’s not you. (Nothing personal.)
So…when we saw Twilight Arbor, we knew right away to just stay away. But this update advertised solo or group, which is simply not what they released.
I specced entirely for defense, condition removal, and healing because of the crazy stuff this map had, and I was able to solo most of it, and I also didn’t die once. It took a little longer, but I didn’t die….Why?
Well, its simple….Glass cannons are going to get 1 or 2 shot, and that’s by design. If you don’t want to die one one hit, you could give yourself some toughness and vitality. But hey, DPS is supposed to be king in this game, so why even bother, right?

Unless you are a warrior. I brought my zerker warrior to that place after playing a bit with other two professions and it was a faceroll like usual. Charge in, spam 100b, stuff is dead and I feel more tanky than my engi with over 3000 armor. Oh well…
We all know the mighty of the warrior class XD

umm…leveling up to 80 doesn’t mean you get all of the trait points of an 80. You probably already know that a leveled-up 80 is still a far cry from a true 80. Otherwise, gearing and traiting is good advice.
Jarek, I would respond about the solo-mmo’er but that argument became obsolete with no one winning or losing in a wow forum discussion six years ago. I don’t agree with your opinion, but I do agree with your right to have one and share it.
Have you guys ever stopped running and start fighting? When I started I just followed a zerg and that was easy and they just run through it all.
Next time when I was gonna help my friend to the top there where no zerg just a few players dieing. After a few tries running I stopped and told my friend to kill everything on the way up and darn it all how easy it all when until a player ran past us with a huge mob after him and we all whiped thanks to this one dude rushing through.
People should start to actually play the content than just just rush through to the good bits.
Not only it’s okay loot in there but while you fight your way in there more and more people will join up and help to fight your way up. We started as two players on level 3 and at the top we where seven who fought our way up, no rush and we had fun and got loots of loot to pay for our previous losses.

If that happens, just back away. Nothing is stopping you from retreating. Fight the enemies in the area that is not filled with mines, and once its safe, then try to carefully cross the room.

The problem is the whole tower is basically an area I have to retreat from. And others are coming to the same conclusion, which means the tower will fairly soon be rather completely “retreated from”.
I think the tower itself is amazing. I just think it needs to be reined in a bit so you don’t have to be either an expert or in a zerg to survive it.
Oh, and with regard to the glass cannon comments, I completely respecced all of my abilities and traits just to try to survive in this area, giving up all offense in favor of defense, and I still went up and down more frequently than a thermometer in New England.
I want to point out you can doge roll through/out of them. If you haven’t learned to avoid aoe circles by now in a level 80 area well…
Good to be necro, i can survive 2 blows and heal myself then.
Ok, I’m still learning the jargon. PVT is what? Power Vitality Toughness?
Yes mj.
And seriously, people are complaining about not being able to run this tower without effort? You went through it once, know what’s coming, build accordingly. Drop the zerk gear, bring condition removal, bring swiftness, bring stun breaks, bring stability, bring blocks. It’s a zerg, you don’t have to deal max dps. Build for survival and try again. You don’t even have to maximize the build as if it were PvP/WvW. Oh yea, and pay attention to the spores before their red circles appear. Just don’t go near em.

Drop the zerk gear? So now I need to gear a certain way to do this?
I can rebuild my thief for more survivability, infact he has decent vigor uptime when dodging. But theres limits. My gear is zerk.
If I need to get some PVT gear to get through this, or knights gear…if I need to get a single new piece of gear to do this, then the patch fails. Horribly.

First off, I did say you don’t need to optimize as if it were PvP/WvW. I went through in zerk gear myself just fine. Just bring some condition cleanse, swiftness, stun break, defensive skills.
Also, you made the choice to gear yourself for no defense, all offense. You can’t truly be surprised that some places will be hard. Zerk is fine in dungeons once you know the mechanics and can avoid damage. Likewise, once you learn the nuances of the Tower zerk is fine too. Can’t expect to be pro at everything on day 1.

If you’re failing it in zerker gear it’s simply because, as of yet, you’re not quite good enough in zerker gear to do it. You have the option of continuing to try in zerker gear and hopefully you’ll improve enough where needed to get through or swap things around to give yourself more survivability while you do learn.
You’ve made the conscious choice to die more easily. Don’t blame everyone else when you do.

Well said.
I suspect the problem here is that zerker works too well in the rest of PVE. As such, it has become expensive to outfit a toon with it. This leave little room for maintaining multiple sets unless you’re a dedicated train runner.
volkon and digiowl, I completly agree with you guys. if you know how to play your class you can surive the tower. Zerker gear is nice for killing things fast but it’s your own choice to die quickly.
