I love a lot of things about the new patch/season/etc., but I really hate how the achievements roll out. I don’t like how you have to play through the entire store mode before any of them unlock, and then play through it all again. Just have them all unlocked from the start, if you manage to get things right on the first try, good for you! If you need to do it a few times to get it right, that’s ok too. The current model makes it so even if you get it right the first try you have to do it all over again, and I hate repeating content like this. It’s all great the first time, don’t ruin it by forcing me to do it over and over.

I would assume it is simply because they want people to experience the story rather than focusing on completing Achievements the first time through.
It will after all be ArenaNet they blame when they don’t understand the story due to not paying attention ^^

Also adds more hours to game time.

Evil is evil. Lesser, greater, middling…makes no difference.
The degree is arbitrary. The definition’s blurred.
If I’m to choose between one evil and another, I’d rather not choose at all.

You need to skip listening to the story to do some of the achievements, thus they separated them.

Well, that’s fine, but most of the achievements do not occur during story elements anyways. They should allow you to get them on the first time through, and in areas where the story and achievements come into conflict, they should allow you to enter a “speed run” mode where you ONLY have to do the portions that are relevant to the achievements, rather than having to redo all the other random bits. After all, you’ve already done it at least once.

Also adds more hours to game time.

I don’t need them to add more hours to the game time. I spent probably 60+ hours over the last month just doing Pyroxis runs. I’m sure I’ll have plenty to do over the next two weeks just running open world events and stuff. I have no interest in repeating story mode content. Forcing players to repeat stuff is not “more content,” it’s just the same content over again. It’s not even like left-overs, it’s like having someone eat a meal, then sick it up, then eat it again.

You need to skip listening to the story to do some of the achievements, thus they separated them.

Any achievement that you need to skip the story for, shouldn’t be an achievement. They should just be designed in such a way that you don’t need to skip the story, and that skipping the story wouldn’t make it any easier to complete (aside from taking less time).

If you were comfortable doing Pyroxis for 60 hours, maybe you can think of it as a ‘run’, just like you did with that content. Only you don’t have to do it more than 1 more time, maybe. /shrug

Pyro runs were at least fun little multiplayer activities. Story missions are not usually super fun, the story is engaging, but once you know it, you know it. There are tons of TV shows I enjoy, but it doesn’t mean I want to watch them dozens of times in a single fortnight. And besides, I was doing Pyro runs because I enjoyed Pyro runs, if I wanted to do something else then I could have done something else. They didn’t have some “Run Pyro 25 times” achievement, and more power to them for that.

That’s the thing though, you don’t have to do it in a single fortnight. Once you unlock it you can do them at any time until the end of time, or Anet shuts down the servers, whichever comes first.

This was a dumb idea. It truly was. Who at Anet thought this was good? Once i do a story, i don’t want to go back and do it again, for various reasons. I don’t want to wait through the dialogue conversations all over again. It just wastes time after i’ve done it all before. It gives off a feeling of being forced to do the story again, otherwise, i’ll miss out on the rewards. Terrilbe game design.

And if that’s what I feel like doing, then great, but if I only feel like doing it once, and I’m able to get the gimmick right on the first try, then I should be done.
