Sea of Sorrows
Kites (six characters to appease the system)
Sea of Sorrows
LOL. I can’t say I feel the same since I got mine when they mailed them to characters for free… but good point.
You paid for a kite. You got a kite.
You did not pay for a kite that gives a speed buff. Now there are other kites that give speed buffs that are not the kites you paid for.

It goes with saying, you pay at your own risk. They don’t owe you a dime.
You paid for the item the way it was at the time not for any improvements done to that item in the future.
So…anet. Where can i upgrade my Guild / Lightning / Sun / Wind Kite that i paid money/gems for to match the new free kite’s buff?
Don’t hold your breath on that one.
I bought a phone several years ago. Now that company makes smartphones, when do they send me one of those?

I’m still waiting for the free upgrade to my computer since all the companies that make the parts made better parts.

I’m pretty upset that Ford hasn’t mailed me a new car, too. It’s a slap in the face, if you ask me.
Yeah, there’s nothing saying ANet has to update the old kites to also give the speed buff.
That said, it would be a really nice gesture and a great way to build player goodwill if they did.
All they have to do is copy and paste some code, and we’ve seen firsthand that they know how to do it

I’m not sure why people are criticizing this post, it’s pretty valid. Don’t insult people that feel burned by their purchases or else they’ll never purchase again, which is obviously bad for the game.
The kites should be patched to have equivalent boosts, or a way to upgrade them in-game.

I never bought my kite, they gave it to me for free last year for buying all those collection expanders.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald

It isn’t valid, though.
When they were bought, they were clearly considered worth the cost to just be a kite.
Now that there’s something else that has another added effect doesn’t mean you automatically deserve the added effect.
The kites were never represented as being anything more than toys, so expecting them to now be more than toys is silly.
I kinda get the complaint here… it IS kinda an annoyance when you buy something, then shortly after you see, “X+1! Buy now!”
And it IS also true that software =/= hardware. People understand when they buy a physical thing that it’s not something that can just be changed on the fly. With software, it might take more work than the layman might think, but it CAN be changed.
But at the same time… it IS wrong to effectively say, “I bought this, now you can’t make ANYTHING better than it EVER because I bought this.” I mean, come on. It starts reaching the point of the absurd to expect and demand to be compensated whenever something changes.

Remember the uproar and hyperbole that was thrown up here in the forums when the Watchwork Pick was released and some people started throwing tantrums, saying how badly it ‘devalued’ the Molten Pick they had bought, when in reality, it didn’t give any real advantage?
I’m waiting for the screams of how this game has become ‘P2W’ and how these new Kites represent a ‘Dangerous Precedent’ and other such frothing at the mouth nonsense…
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”
I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’

Depends on how you use it. Personally I’ve already harvested enough Sprockets to pay for 1.5 Watchwork Picks. That first pick is giving me pure profit from here on out.
You have to admit that it’s rather silly to have a Gemstore item be less effective than a chest drop? Tbh, that sounds like bad marketing.
What harm could it cause to have all kites have this effect anyway? The skins are purely cosmetic, and they chest from which the new ones drop will still be opened regardless.
Changing all kites to have this effect is completely harmless, and a nice gesture to your player base.
Guys, it doesn’t stack with anything. You get a mere 5% when you have no traveler/speed/swiftness/sandstorm. When it could posibly happen? Don’t forget you can’t use your leaps and stuff wile wielding it.

Part of me agrees with both sides, so I won’t choose one over the other. However, if the kites had to be different, I definitely think it makes more sense to have the buff be on the in-game drop. If gemstore kites provided a speed boost and in-game drop kites did not, that would be providing “P2W” advantages. Anet seems pretty set against that.
