Mawdrey Love
I like the fact that we didn’t know what it was going to look like at first. I liked the element of surprise. In fact I hope there’s more to come and we’re not done, yet, even after making it ascended (no, I don’t mean it becomes legendary, just more customization, like, say, the colors from the spinal blades).
Whilst I think the process is bit long winded and you have to find a guide outside of the game to craft it (never a fan of that)…I like the idea behind crafting it. I see it setting up more prestige items and maybe the long hoped for precursors as well.
Also, you can’t put up a positive thread and call for screenies, without putting your own up first

You really don’t have to do that. It’s good for having an overview, but you don’t need it at all.
I like the process, mainly because it feels like a prototype of precursor crafting.
Mawdrey needs the nomad stats added to the drop down choices. If you’ve already got an ascended back peace, Mawdrey, as cute as she is, seems superfluous. Adding the choice of Nomad stats to her, would make her worth grinding for just to have that uniqueness in your collection. Otherwise, she’s just a skin and a massive gold sink. It also, wouldn’t hurt if the she occasionally shouted out with an audio clip “FEED ME!” Just because.
I love Mawdrey! I want it more than almost anything in this game right now, since it will make my slyvari necro look even more kittening kitten!
Its a complicated process and a timesink to be sure, but thats part of the fun! I’m ordering the foxfire clusters one day at a time until I get enough geodes from pvp for a clay pot, so I’m spreading my resources out day by day, which is nice so I don’t get too overloaded by its price.
What stats can you choose for it? I really need a zerker backpiece, but since I can just grind Fotm for it, would it be more worth it to pick something rarer like celestial or valkyrie?
Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..

I don’t have one b/c I haven’t finished making it yet. Soon as I have, I’ll post a screenie

Mawdrey II should totally do this every time you feed it!
Mawdrey is basically a nice version of Audrey II, and I find it absolutely adorable. ANET really did a good job with the flavor text.
I love Mawdrey soooooo much.
My Sylvari loves Mawdrey too.
I like the way you craft it.
And i like the text.

I agree! Please Anet, use this kind of system for crafting precursors!
I liked it as well, reminded me of when we made the Black Moa Chick in GW1. Plus it looks great.
I don’t like the design much, but kitten was fun to make, finally something I feel like I accomplished, and tying the living story to it was a really good move.
Please Anet, use this for future content, this is how I want my scavenger’s hunt
I like it a lot ! There’s not enough plant-themed armors in that game, I wish he’d become a full armor later in the story, but I’m sure that’s not going to happen. :p
Also, I think it’s cool that we’re supposed to make it grow and kinda tame it by feeding it and stuff, that’s a nice touch.
I really wish we could turn off the glow, though. I don’t think a pink glow suits that many characters skins.
I’d like them to do this sort of thing with Precursor crafting. Craft your ascended weapon, then imbue it at X amount of Points of Power, slay X amounts of champions, beat the 3 dragon champions, etc.
It’s a teeny bit overly complicated for a scavenger hunt prestige item, I think, but overall I do like Mawdrey and the general approach to crafting it.
The “scavenger hunt” process for the special components was really nice, though I’m not completely sure about some of them being in jumping puzzles (I personally have 0 problem with JP’s, love them to death, but I sympathize with the people who don’t).
The whole crafting aspect was OK for the most part, though I do think the overall number of items you needed was perhaps a tad overkill, particularly for the first stage. I think it should have started with perhaps 3 plates of each food, and then increased to 5, then 7 only for the very last stage.
The backpiece itself I like, though I’m personally more fond of the 2nd stage since I don’t like the super-glow on the vines. You can tell they’re actually vines better that way.
The fact that it actually ties into the story, even in terms of the crafting process itself, is also a plus.
Overall a pretty nice implementation for a new back item. Could be refined a bit, adjusted here and there, but on the whole, good stuff.
THIS is what I had hoped for with legendary weapons. The scavenger hunt, the slow upgrade with a visual component, it’s just so much awesome!
It may take me a few weeks to finish (I prefer to make money on the TP, not spend it) but I’m definitely sold on the concept. More like it, please!
I’m also sold on the concept. I’ve been fully ascended for about three months now, I’m doing it just for mawdrey 2. :} And I suppose I could use a celestial ascended backpiece. Eh.
Much praise to ANet on this one. I think they should offer an alternative on the mists stone, though, for those dudes who only WvW.
Did not care for the fractals, but very much enjoyed the other aspects. My favorite – never knew white mantle were in gw2 until sent to aurora remains.
well its ALMOST perfect. besides 75827385927 materials required (farming foxfire/geodes is not fun) and time-gated craftings (how about…7/week instead of this kitten 1/day?). running aroudn map, charging things was really fun
I just made the backpiece and wanted to leave some feedback as well.
*I really loved the scavenger hunt and that it took me to places that I hadn’t visited in years.
*It was great that it needed so few ectos to get an infused version of it and that it gave use to forgotten materials such as fractal relics, charged ctystals, bloodstone dust etc.
*It was awesome that we could choose the stats ourselves.
*It was a bit annoying that it required 4 crafts mostly because of the item transfering between characters.
*I also believe that geodes and foxfire should have been added to the collection because getting them all in one place from all the characters was a pain.
*I did however hate a lot the timegated food, lamp and clay pot, especially the food since we needed so many of them. That stuff should have been made account bound.
*The geode farming was a nightmare, I believe some of the recepies should have been purchasable with Badges of Honor instead.

I would have to completely agree, though for the geode farming, it only was a pain because i wanted to get all the necessary geodes fast…
I don’t get the “cultivated through the generations” text.
It’s still two years after Zhaitan…
Based on the Music Show that this back piece is based on, it will probably:
- Increase in size
-Develop mini heads like fly traps
-Require Blood Stone Bricks to feed the next generation pet
Randomly eats players?

I agree with most of this.
geode farming tip:
1. Port to dry top at xx:35
When sandstorm starts do events in this order:
1. Skritt thieves by centaur camp (port after killing 3 skritt)
2. Escort asuran researcher (port after killing first group of skritt)
3. Escort haze
4. Kill champ devourer queen (xx:45)
5. kill mites nearing starting area (xx:50)
6. Tag haze event
7. tag champ dust twister
8. Head to skritt queen for the finish.
There is 80 geodes in 20 minutes. Rinse and repeat every hour, do something else when there is no sandstorm.
