When playing through this chapter I’m sure the confrontation with Estelle is a sly nod to the Ace Attorney series (which, if so, is awesome; love those games).

I present to you the evidence Your Honour:
1. You are asked by Kasmeer to ‘Press’ and ‘Present evidence’ both key elements of Ace Attorney.
2. You work with a partner (Kasmeer) who gives hints as to when someone is lying, this also happens in said game.
3. You ask Minister Estelle to repeat her testimony so you can spot the lies; again, very similar.

I await your verdict.

My verdict is vengeance – a vendetta, held as a votive – not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.

It’s more like Ace Attorney Investigations to be more specific. I always wanted to be Miles Edgeworth.

Kasmeer even does the whole “Objection” point to Estelle.

The “Suspicion” bar is also kind of like the life bar in Ace Attorney, too. The only difference is that you get brought back in if you fail.

That’s what I seriously disliked about that instance. You screwed up once, you can just do it again.

Stolos: you’re spot on. This encounter was an homage to the courtroom cross-examinations from Ace Attorney. You all probably know pretty well that people at ArenaNet are gamers, too, and this occasionally bleeds into the content we create. For example, the Molten Facility end boss encounter took inspiration from Dark Souls. There are small nods/references sprinkled across the game.

I was not aware of that…But then I never played dark souls so….
So that would mean that the turkey room ACTUALLY means something!!

i knew it all along, but it makes me happier to see confirmation that pikachu and snorlax really were the inspiration to that boss :P

The whole endurance mechanic seems to have been borrowed from the Souls series. ArenaNet only decided to use endurance for dodging. If skills/abilities were tied into endurance as well then it would make for a much more difficult game. One of the things that makes the Souls games difficult is that you can’t just spam attacks like in other action games.

Massive fan of Ace Attorney. This homage, just epic, bravo Anet, I’d love to see more gaming references in the Living World Story.

Never played the AA series, but honestly not surprised by this. The original Guild Wars references more songs, movies, video games, books, and television series than I care to list, and I’m sure I don’t even know half of them. One EotN dungeon even references from an online machinima!

Actually for the conversations in this part of the story, the method of conversations used in the personal story (two characters agains a backdrop) could have been used to make it even more like Phoenix Wright. And of course we needed an “OBJECTION!” option.

Any plan that involves dead quaggans is, by design, foolproof. I’m an unmitigated genius!
