[Spoiler] What We Saw
One thing that I don’t think I’ve seen referenced yet is that Scarlet tinkered with Omadd’s machine at some point afterwards. As such, while the things that our character saw are similar to what Scarlet had seen, the effects of the machine might not wind up being the same. Did Scarlet add a mechanism to protect future users of the machine? If she was under the control of Mordremoth that doesn’t seem like a sensible thing for her to do, but she didn’t always do sensible things.
Further to that, it’s likely that Mordremoth can only corrupt plants, all the minions of his that we’ve seen have been some kind of plant creature, be it husk or flower or fern hound. For PCs who aren’t Sylvari, it’s pretty safe to say they weren’t corrupted. For Sylvari PCs, well..
Its been well implied that only Soundless Sylvari are exceptionally vulnerable to Mordrem corruption.

Here’s to hoping in Episode 3 The Avatar of The Pale Tree gives us more information onto how this all comes together.
Debatable how many of M’s minions have been corrupted, like J, K and Z’s minions, versus how many have been created from scratch, like P’s minions.
We haven’t actually seen anything get corrupted by Mordy yet.

That is a dead dog that has had plants attached to its nervous system. The dog itself is not corrupted, however, and is merely being used as a puppet by the plants on its back, so it’s kind of a gray area, really.
Just to follow on the Mass Effect references, not am i just reminded of the Eden Prime Beacon scene when we push Taimi out of the machine and experience the vision ourselves, im also reminded of the Thorian by all those creatures, and Mordremoth’s appearent size and spread (the big vines being the dragons body, not just his corruption, as said by Taimi)
Well…a few problems here:
- While we know that something has been Scarlet (and later Aerin), there’s nothing confirming it’s Mordremoth. While the plant dragon has certainly benefited from Scarlet’s final scheme, it’s still only implied to have been the one behind her insanity. As her journal from Origins of Madness shows, something had been trying to get at her before she ever got into the machine to begin with, and only had success after that.
- We’re still uncertain if what we saw was the same thing as her, or just a recording of what she saw.
- Certain other little tidbits, like the machine having been altered from the original, as well as being yanked out early (as the short story indicated, Scarlet apparently spent a few days inside the module. We were only in there for about 30-45 seconds), means that we can’t be sure if seeing the green sphere fusing with the center is what made her go crazy, or if she found something else in there after all the time she spent that finally broke her.
Plus, it wouldn’t be much of a game if we had gotten corrupted right away. Still, the roar that came as the green sphere merged with the center seems to imply that something was looking back at us too. Perhaps being pulled out early saved us from getting consumed. Or perhaps it tried to form a link with our mind, and while we still seem alright for now, it may try to exploit this later.

Pretty sure it’s still a fern hound, rather than a normal wolf. It fits in with the Husks, keeping Mordremoth’s minions as being similar-yet-different to Nightmare Court critters.

In the first part of the story, we briefly encounter some “Overgrown Wolf” creatures. What if that’s just the early stage of the corruption of a normal wolf. The vines grow INTO the creature, feeding from and eventually replacing the flesh. When it’s progressed far enough, the plants “bloom”, and you get the Mordrem Wolf. By this point it’s possible that the plants are acting as a life support system for what’s left of the wolf, which would be delightfully horrific.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Fern hounds are made entirely from plants (just like sylvari), so it wouldn’t make sense for them to possess a bone skull.
Moreover, if you look at its legs, you can see that these are actually covered in fur, which to me suggests that it used to be a normal dog/canine animal.

Mordrem Wolves, they have canine skulls, and the skeletal figure they possess, obviously corrupted dogs or wolves, but more covered in plant like growth.
Although there are Overgrown Thornwolves and Overgrown Husks, dunno if these are place holders for the Mordrem so they might not appear again, since they’re same as the Mordrem wolves and husks we now face.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

Maybe it’s just the result of Mord, now actively awake, jump starting the corruption so you’re seeing the products of what is considered natural life evolving into something grotesque.
