What is that Vine doing to the WP!
I always thought this was strange though, in a world of instant teleportation, the relaying of information should happen much faster, especially since the teleportation fee is very little, even less for lvl 1 NPCs :P
A: Ingame the Asura gates are free for players to use, while in the actual lore there is a cost for using the gate (and it gets bigger if you are shipping cargo or groups through)
B: Likely the waypoints can be a bit expensive, probably cheaper but still expensive for an out of pocket cost, which is how I took the magic.
The way it was described it sounded as if the magic involved took the coins from your coinpurse and teleported them to the safe room in Rata sum. Not from your bank or stash, but from your pocket. I could be wrong, but that’s how I took it. Either way, we know almost everybody prefers to simply hike caravans across the distances instead of waypointing, and I’d bet it relates to the money aspect.
I went to the Greyhoof Camp waypoint last night.
Seraph: Help! We need your help!
Me: Yes, I can see that! There’s a huge vine grappling with the Asuran waypoint here!
Seraph: What? No! There are centaurs making trouble, we need you to deal with them!

Seraph never could see the forest for the centuars.
Well you got to look it as this way.
1) Mordy’s Vines feed on Magic like how plants feed on Water.
2) Plants only grow by the amount water that is provided
3) Plants can’t grow far unless there is another source of water in the other area
4) All vines are only growing near areas that are strong with magic near its last location.
Using this we know that the Vines has the same limits as plants on how far they can grow so as of now the only source of “water” that is allowing these Vines to spread are the Ways or any other magical artifacts near the ways.
Following a similar logic I wondered whether or not these vines are actually branching out towards locations of bloodstones. I mean, a large part of the community has been ‘asking’ for a better ‘intertwining’ of the GW1 lore with that of GW2. And perhaps Anet came up with a way to let the GW2 story ‘grow’ into a direction that lets them do so, and as such enrich the entirety of Tyrian lore.
We can’t see if one of these spread vines is moving to the ‘bloodstone’ (maguma one). The other known bloodstone is ’Gad’s encampment’ (be this one fairly damaged, and no vines are moving in that clear direction), and it has been suggested that there is a bloodstone somewhere else in the south of the shiver peaks (where vines might be spreading towards). With one other bloodstone left in the volcano (unknown if vines are spreading out that way). That leaves 1 bloodstone yet un-discovered, it could well be somewhere around Ascalon, where these vines are now heading towards?

So where is the vine heading that is affecting Fort Marriner ? and why is it only THAT WP in LA that is doing it ? ( that I have found anyways )

Not even close, there are quiet a few.
Now wines have literally captured the waypoints.
Drinking will do that to you.
In about 45 minutes, there’s a Cab that will have a firm grip on me, for example.
Are we sure the vines are Mordys doing? In the first instance of the episode the Jantzen says when we ask him where the vines came from:
“As far as I know, the land west of here has been cut off—more or less—for a long time. Criminals seem to have a few secret routes to get in and out, but who knows what goes on over there?”
Was the land cut off by the vines? If yes and if the vines are Mordys corruption are they also some sort of his defense? Or are the vines something else that we don’t know yet?

Yes.
I’m just saying, when you see some strange vines attacking your means of travel, maybe consider having one person fast travel to a capital.
:P
Takes out her crystal ball
I foresee.. all waypoints getting disabled on July 15th, and not re-enabled until you defeat Mordrimoth.
Immersive runs to your destination are now mandatory! Hurrrraaaa!
I’m surprised that none of the Lionguard in LA are at least trying to chop down the vines poking at the waypoints there. :P

I think they have a hand full with the looters and trying to bring LA back and make it safe for ppl to be there to deal with a plant that effecting something most of the LA npc do not use. Now if it was effect the portals then that would be a major thing the Lionguard would deal with at the appease of a vine.

Oh and if you listen to waypoints they are making some sort of pulsing sound.
I do understand that when it comes to developing content, coding itself isn’t as easy as flicking a switch. All I was looking for, while not expecting, was an NPC here or there with simple dialog upon speaking to them; telling you how odd it is.
Talk to the Priory peeps at the outpost in Brisban where there’s an affected waypoint. They comment on the vines. So at least some of that is sprinkled around it seems.

That’s due to the interference. A warning that something is disrupting the currents. My guess is the vines are following the circuit, not traveling via the WPs, in order to reach some goal somewhere in Timberline Falls if not further.
Don’t remember if it was mentioned earlier, but Krognar’s Waypoint in Timerberline Falls is now flickering. Been starting there for my plat/wood run for the past couple of days and hadn’t seen it before.
Man some of you guys are so observant. I would never have been able to spot this.

You are right, there is at least a single NPC that comments on them. I feel a little happier now. Sadly she just says something like “yeah they are interesting, but leave me alone”.

I think it’s one of the males that says something about them being interesting, but he’s not particularly worried. Or there’s bigger things to worry about out there, something to that effect. So … two? lol. I intend to visit all of the affected waypoints before Part 2 comes out, maybe there are others.

Looks like the vines are spreading toward the Crystal Desert… Perhaps an alliance between Kralkatorrik and Mordremoth? Rik and Mordy anyone?
More like Mordy’s after Kralky’s Bloodstone, so he’s trying to steal Kralky’s food. So don’t be surprised if we start seeing conveniently placed things by dragon minions…Mordy just became public enemy #1 to the other dragons, his reach far extends theirs.

Passing through. It goes South and out through BloodTide Coast, moving East.
Anyone else smelling a connection between asian market expansion and the new story content having tentac…uhm…vines grabbing people?
No, I’m pretty sure it’s just you.

I find it a little hard to believe that they’re taking it some calmly. I would have expected someone to avail themselves of the nearest axe or flamethrower.
If noone has mentioned it…Vanjir’s Stead is now flickering and crackling……wasn’t a couple night’s ago as far as I recollect

This conclusion that Mordy is after a bloodstone is odd to me. Why have none of the other dragons gone after a bloodstone? What makes Mordy so different that he needs a bloodstone. I think the whole bloodstone thing is wishful dreams.
Here is a screenshot of an interesting vine right outside of the dry top entrance. I have no idea if it has always looked like that. But my question is if the vines travel underground they pass the destroyers in Kessex Hills and also I thought the tengu had a destroyer problem so do you think the destroyers would ignore the vines or are the vines avoiding them?
Yeah, that vine has always had that purple energy glow.
Also, if nobody has noticed it… The Vine ARE sucking magic out.
I looked closely at the vines in Fort Salma and Mirkrise (the priory camp in brisbane), and you can see a blue flow coming from the waypoint, down along the vine into the ground, causing a glow similar to that of the ley-line intersection in LA.

I agree. At the same time I wanted to mention the spots Scarlet had investigated for Ley Line “knots” (I guess we call them) but LA’s Ley-Line Knot still seems pretty active and yet the vines are moving over that and onward. So there’s got to something else, maybe it is the Infinity Coil but I don’t think we’ll know until the next episode and we start seeing vines move South.
Ran around Timberline Falls and I didn’t see any vines or further flickering way points bellow Concordia.

Same, however, it seems like most of the vines in Kessex are choking the WPs. In brisben one WP reverted from choking back to a vine poking it. It’s also possible the vines are targeting the Pact and are using the WPs for the energy to reach timberline falls, just my theory though.
Its possible the Lionguard and the Seraph did try chopping down the vines but the kitten things just grew right back. They seem to be spreading very rapidly so I could easily see the Lionguard cutting down one vine only to have another one sprouting 5 minutes later.
Its also likely that most people experiencing the vines have no idea its part of a larger problem. Some crazy exotic plant that is drawn towards waypoints for some reason that somehow got spread from some smuggler’s cargo during the Scarlet events. The Vines seem mostly passive to observers outside Dry Top so most groups would probably be seeing them more as a nuisance than an actual threat.
It does go to show though that in a fantasy world being overly paranoid does pay off.:P

That Charr sure is grumpy. Geez..
There is also another priory explorer (Lewin Frazar) who says that the tendril at the waypoint does have their attention.

This is fascinating reading – I’ve not been around Brisban or Kessex since the start of LS2, so I’ve not seen any of this interaction with waypoints.
All seems very spooky not knowing for sure if the vines are connected to Mordremoth and even if they are what the vines are headed for.
There’s still something odd with that “magic sucking” theory. Why would those vines not go after the Thaumacore Inquiry Center? There is a huge energy source there, but not vines.
If we assume that the vines are part of Mordremoth’s corruption, then I have a theory: maybe the dragon needs fresh, uncorrupted energy to feed on. That purple energy flow above Thaumanova Reactor and the south of Toxal Bog is most definitly some kind of dragon energy (called chaos energy by the Inquest) and the purple glowing vine at the top of the mountain at the entrance to Dry Top seems to release dragon energy as well. My theory is that the dragon consumes the world’s energy and transforms it into chaos energy, thus there is no reason to feed on the Thaumacore.
By the way, did somebody check Zone Green again at Infinite Coil Reactor?
Edit: Attached a picture of the Thaumacore Energy Source.
Edit2: Sadly nothing new at Zone Green.

Well remember it’s only Episode 2 starting tomorrow. We will see whether its a significant target or not.

While I’m not sure if others have suggested this, I did a couple of posts above. And it was not so much a conclusion but a suggestion… Maybe if I give a little more background it might be more understood as to why I suggested this.
Read these two:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Magic
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Bloodstone
So, instead of being ‘magic providing’ the bloodstones are actually magic filters, they prohibit the free flow of magic into the world and restrict it to the 4 known schools. So why didn’t previous dragons go for the bloodstones (while we can’t say for sure they didn’t, we can at least say we as PC’s didn’t actively observe it), well perhaps because the kinds of magic these dragons are ‘attuned’ to are amongst the kinds of magic that are filtered through. Why would Mordi go after the bloodstones? Well maybe the kind of magic he is after is restricted by one or more bloodstones to flow freely into the world. In which case he is not after the bloodstones to tap into the magic, but rather to destroy them in order to release the flow of magic.
Also, and my memory isn’t entirely certain of this, but in the last instalment of GW1 the mursaat show up in the southern shiverpeaks, in search of another bloodstone. I think ‘we’ free one of the NPCs from the fate being slain atop it. Due to the bloodstone near Gadd’s encampment (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Bloodstone_Caves) being assumed to be this bloodstone, it can be called somewhat ‘weird’ that these caves did not come with Mursaat enemies. Which leads me to ‘conclude’ that the lore mentioned on the Wiki might be wrong, the Bloodstone that Glint hints to may NOT be the bloodstone near Gadd’s, but an entirely different bloodstone that is somewhere in the southern shiver peaks. And might be the destination of the southern heading Vines.
This may also be somewhat of the reason why the followers of Glint are involved in this story arc (besides just being a reason to start the season after the festivities). I do not mean that they were targeted because of this bloodstone ordeal, but merely to ‘tie’ these lore pieces together in the background and leave a breadcrumb ‘hint’ for us to tie this southern Shiverpeaks bloodstone to the Glint story, instead of tying it to the bloodstone in Gadd’s encampment… (to which I want to add that I can not find the exact reference of Glint to the bloodstones on the wiki, so it is hard for me to say this Gadd’s bloodstone isn’t specifically referred to!).
So, ‘no’, there is no hard conclusion that Mordi has send his vines off to find the bloodstones. But, as can be seen above, there are various reasons why one might suggest them as a possible target. This also combined with various ‘critiques’ out of the community that the Lore in GW2 seems to deviate far from the lore in GW1. Bringing back the bloodstones in some way, shape or form could be a response to this critique and offer some more entanglement (cough) of the two, and also provide a way to add more background on these illusive stones.

It could be the vines avoiding them. As I stated previously though, I do not think the other Elder Dragons will take Mordy’s awakening lightly. With the spreading of those vines, he’s taking more energy than they are. And recalling how Kralky’s mind was like a raging tornado attempting to devour everything in its greed (my take on the Edge of Destiny mentioning on Kralky’s mind), none of the other dragons are going to take this laying down. Expect the other dragons to start making their move very soon.

Ol’ Mordy is spreading his roots throughout Tyria to feed on magic like a plant takes in water. The vines are attracted to sources of magical energy.

It was stated way back, just before release, when questions were asked that the dragons do not necessarily have an allegiance to one another and more so act in tandem with enough area apart to prevent interaction on a regular basis. This is part of the reason why I want to see Primo in the conclusion feeding off of Mordre’s weaking state, growing bigger in the process, and watching Mordre wither off to go hide as the place starts burning.

Well Primordius and his fire-minions would probably beat Mordremoth and his plants fairly easily. The real battle is between the stone and lava minions or Primordius and the crystal minions of Kraky.

I was thinking more Jormag/Kraky/Mordy. Primordius seems to have an unfair advantage against both Modry and Jormag.

I don’t know, I don’t think Primo would stand a chance if it went out to the North and we don’t know how large Jormag is – Primo is considered the smallest of the EDs. That being said at the same time if Jormag went under ground into Primo’s realm, it’d have trouble.
Well Primordius and his fire-minions would probably beat Mordremoth and his plants fairly easily.
Nah it’s more like mordy would evolve or grow whatever is necessary to defeat whatever dragon it’s fighting.
Plants are probably the most diverse when it comes to both offensive and defensive abilities/mutations: shells, seeds, fire resistant acid coated fast growing bamboo style murder plants, just to name a few.
and you can’t protect against gases either, not against all at least.
all the other dragons sound like a resource battle, mordy might just be the most cunning. Like, as an antagonist for a detective.
or a stupid dry grass ready to be lit, we’ll see.
but if mordy dies, it’s gotta be by fire

Yup, would give a segway into introducing Primo. Fire needs oxygen to thrive and what would give the most oxygen besides a giant jungle dragon representing the sheer insane capability of overgrowth. Burning, Primo grows larger while Mordre withers away and runs off to hibernate.
