What is that Vine doing to the WP!
I just noticed, the Seraph are actively using the Mirkrise Waypoint to get reinforcements closer to the Tangle Root. When the Jungle Entaglement meta-event starts, a lot of soldiers teleport in there. It could be possible that the goal of the vines is to really destroy the waypoint-system to really hurt the enemie’s infrastructure.
The screenshot of Concordia does show pieces of the waypoint laying on the ground after being blown up.
What about the Jungle Wurm spawning at the Marshwatch Haven Waypoint (bloodtide coast, North East), using 1 attack and going back underground again. Next content, destruction of the marshwatch haven building?

Actually, this also happened on the first day the first time I wp’ed in – I thought it was a part of LS 1 “ambience”.
Don’t know if this new map is posted here but it should be.

I just want to say this is REALLY cool. Exactly the kind of thing I like seeing in MMORPGs. It’s a shared mystery that has the community guessing and allows some intrepid souls get to be the first ones to put the clues together. NJ Ashoden, Prof Retro, Omlech and everyone else for digging up the details.
Season 2 of the Living Story are starting to get quite interesting……Keep it up ArenaNet!
BTW – has anyone gotten trapped inside one of the vines when you waypoint in? It happened to me when I ported into Fort Salma. I forgot to report the bug when I trapped in it, I was too busy trying to figure out how to get out (Just WPed out, when I WP-ed back I didn’t have an issue)
(edited by DoctorOverlord.8620)
Yeah, it’s a known issue for the most part Doc.
Here is a screenshot of an interesting vine right outside of the dry top entrance. I have no idea if it has always looked like that. But my question is if the vines travel underground they pass the destroyers in Kessex Hills and also I thought the tengu had a destroyer problem so do you think the destroyers would ignore the vines or are the vines avoiding them?
It could be the vines avoiding them. As I stated previously though, I do not think the other Elder Dragons will take Mordy’s awakening lightly. With the spreading of those vines, he’s taking more energy than they are. And recalling how Kralky’s mind was like a raging tornado attempting to devour everything in its greed (my take on the Edge of Destiny mentioning on Kralky’s mind), none of the other dragons are going to take this laying down. Expect the other dragons to start making their move very soon.
Three way elder dragon showdown, like a wvw matchup. Taking bets on who wins.
Well Primordius and his fire-minions would probably beat Mordremoth and his plants fairly easily. The real battle is between the stone and lava minions or Primordius and the crystal minions of Kraky.
I was thinking more Jormag/Kraky/Mordy. Primordius seems to have an unfair advantage against both Modry and Jormag.
… and then Bubbles starts to surface in front of Mordy & Jojo, proposing, “If you two stop freezing or draining me dry, I’ll lend you my power to extinguish the flames of Kraky”
Foursome is always better than threesome imo
I’m still sad that my “grand Scarlet scheme” idea didn’t pan out. The general idea was that Scarlet was manipulating the ley lines to send out a “call” to each of the Elder Dragons, drawing them all to Lion’s Arch. There, they all get infected with a hallucinatory miasma so potent it can even affect Elder Dragons, and Scarlet goads them into fighting each other until only one is left. She then attacks the weakened Elder Dragon with the combined might of her giant Marionette, her Aetherblade airships, and the Molten/Toxic Alliance.
End result? All Elder Dragons slain, and Scarlet is now the Supreme Overlord of Tyria.
Ok so the WP in Timberline Falls is now ceased as well as the Waypoint at the entrance of Dry Top.

You are right, my bad. So it should be “…. extinguish the flames of Primo”.
I am secretly hoping for “Invasion of Body Snatchers” scenario, Mordy’s tendrils start sprouting pods and clones walking out from them… you know, killing Mordy’s clone of Trehearne… no, make it CLONES of Trehearne, so everyone have a chance. Pretty please AN?

You could be right. one of the miners from prosperity was complaining of hearing things, and that being in the mine made his brain feel itchy.
Makes me think fungus.
Though, he is mammalian, and Sylvari being plants, probably already have a mechanism far more advanced to combat fungi than humans, even elder dragon fungi. especially since corruption of sylvari seems to be more mental and through the dream connection (or lack-there-of).
Yeah, I think that was a hint that humans and other mammals, while they can feel the mental corruption exuded by Mordremoth and his tendrils, aren’t really affected by it in the way that Sylvari and other plant creatures are.

I am thinking that exposure to miasma from “something fierce” is the cause, probably from nearby Inquest facility.
I think I spot an asuran gate in inquest facility as well during my hunt for 30th coin, probably link to Thaumacore Inquiry Center in nearby Brisbane Wildlands, which according to wiki “They have a unique power supply running this compound.” Powered by Mordy?

What I was thinking of might be a bit more graphic, but I’m hoping for something like that as well.
Mordy releases some type of corruptive spore, which animals inhale, and they slowly take root and/or grow in the animal’s lungs and nasal cavity. The nasal cavity would allow for easy access to the brain, and the lungs for the rest of the body. The conversion process would probably be horribly painful, and possibly gruesome, but the end result would be a dragon minion.
Nature isn’t pretty, and neither should be that Elder Dragon’s style of corruption.

“The Last of Us”? However, the tendrils in the recent trailers seem to prefer to thrash/choke the life out of the animals than converting them. Guess we will have the answer in a few hours time :/

Something along that line. Less fungus and more like overgrown vines using the body as a simple framework.
Though, if Mordy isn’t in the corrupting business, it’s missing out on a huge wealth of information, since Elder Dragons supposedly know everything that their minions know.

gasp sylvari are in deep trouble? OOT, for some reason FFVII comes into my mind, ley line = mako/life stream, sylvari = ancients. So the collective ‘dreams’ the sylvari tap into is the ley line itself?
The waypoint at Mirkrise has been smashed to pieces. It’s a sad day for all waypoints in the world.

Sure enough, smashed and being looked at.

It just doesn’t seem like it’s sapping power, it looks savaged. If it was only draining power, you’d think it would fall into two-three pieces (the body and the squares) harmlessly to the ground once it was of no longer any use. Vine is gone too. This was split in half sparking and the spot where the waypoint was, the aura is glowing gold periodically and then dissipating.
EDIT: Also, there seems to be a symbol on the innards of the Way Point resembling the Eternal Alchemy. Not exact identical of Scarlet’s drawing but close….
(edited by Ronin.7381)
is there a symbol etched in the wp remains? (both sides) or am I seeing this wrong?

I guess it’s a combination of both things. The magical energy gets sucked out, but those vines look like they have some muscle (plant) power too.

Nope, not entirely wrong – I just edited mine to add to it.
It looks like a symbol of some kind. My guess being a symbol of the Eternal Alchemy, or THE symbol itself. Doesn’t look exactly like Scarlet’s painting but similar.
(edited by Ronin.7381)
Definitely Gallifreyan :P
thx ronin!
my guess is, it is being used to channel/tranform/access the lay line energy and then morph it into chaos/dragon. kinda like an outlet/plug mechanic
Yeah, I can see that. Being that he was awoken supposedly ahead of schedule, something like an energy boost to wake up to just before going to work.
BTW – has anyone gotten trapped inside one of the vines when you waypoint in? It happened to me when I ported into Fort Salma.
You aren’t alone on this…
i was stuck in the Salma Waypoint tonight. That happened only to me or is “normal”?
EDIT: Take care if you travel to Fort Salma to investigate matters, friends. My engineer ported there and immediately was trapped by the vine “strangling” the waypoint. Fortunately Tippi Kaboom is an engineer who feels everything can be solved with explosions, and freed herself with Jump Shot.

Please give us a keyring…
has anyone tried tickling the vines?
has anyone tried tickling the vines?
yep with lava font… nothing happened.
I tried with the one in fort marriner and the one in bloodcoast ward in LA.
But i see that at the base of the vines that grab the waypoint there is a blue luminescence.
I think the vines are “drinking” the magic within.
i don’t know if anyone says something like this XD

There’s florescent light flowing down from the waypoints and along the vine. Pretty neat.
Welp, looks like my theory was not so far off at all… But now people (NPCs) should definitly realize that they should take action against the vines lol.

They’ll just run up to any random stranger and say “I need some help!”
Well at least something.
I’m thinking that these Waypoints are going to take a while, across multiple episodes. So we may not see another today (7/15/2014). But I’m not sure, I think the event taking place with waypoints are acting on a separate timer than the Episodes so throughout the Season it’ll progress and then transition to the next “source”.
You’ve heard of phototropism? This is thaumotropism.
