Snowstorms.

Having snow storms in the shiver peaks would be amazing. ad hidden chests to it, that makes those maps better to?

make the game world more immersive. ad heavy rain effects , storms and lightning. and when its dark… make it dark so we actually need to use the torch we got from the Living story / or a weapon that glows rather bright..

+2 to those ideas. A night w/ darkness where you need torches in the regular world (they can keep the extreme version of it in Fractals) and random snowstorms in Shiverpeaks would be awesome. The occasional hurricane, and even less frequently a tornado. Coastlines with massive swells!

Thinking about it makes me feel like Taimi fan-girling over Scarlet junk.

+1 to this idea.

Except maybe not on maps we already have. I don’t know if this is a change they’d be willing to make to all maps. Perhaps just 1 out of every region (e.g one in Ascalon, one in the Shiverpeaks etc). Either that or just in new zones we get.

I like this idea. My friend and I already discussed how amazing it would be if it were actually dark in the night and you had to use a torch. Heart vendors or other merchants could sell torches. Or, as my friend suggested, they could make Sigils of Light which you could equip to weapons and they would have a glow which only you could see. (This total darkness effect is already in Obsidian Sanctum JP and now also in the mine in Dry Top)

I also like the idea of snowstorms, something like in one of the Fractals. Other effects would also be cool.

Far northern shiverpeaks with the same mechanics as the fractal sounds like a lot of fun actually. You could even tie it to an elite world boss that can be killed to turn off the bad weather now and then.

If I recall correctly, in one of the earlier parts of the Flame and Frost part in Living Story 1, snow storms and blizzards would suddenly kick up in Wayfarers. These blizzards would reduce visibility and spawn Ice Elementals that would attack anything near them. I remember occasionally seeing them get into fights with the local Sons of Svanir.
Personally, I loved the ambient feeling of those storms and would enjoy seeing them come back.
As for other areas and differing weather…
I know that in some parts of the world (Stormbluff Isle in Bloodtide Coast for example) the weather can suddenly change, but that is a stationary effect.
If Anet could set up a weather system like they did in FF14:ARR have done, I personally would love it.
That being said, I have no clue what it could take to implement something like that.

I agree but at the same time, i don’t. It’s really nice having totally dark areas, like that mine at Dry Top, or a part of that Lion’s Arch jumping puzzle, etc – where you actually have to use a lightsource (personally i used the greatsword Cobalt to light my way instead of a torch provided at the JP)
But having such darkness everywhere, even if only at night, would be a bit too much of a hassle imo. If you encounter a mob you’d either be forced to fight with something that glows or fight in full darkness?
I support the idea of implementing more dark areas, but not everywhere or making it so that every night would be as dark. Especially not in Orr, that place is nightmare-ish enough for me as it is :P

The issue with dark areas is that few of GW2’s professions can use torches. Those who can’t are forced to use environmental weapons and they’re pretty ineffective.

As seen on Reddit, cannot say how much I love this idea to introduce dynamic weather systems into old zones.

I just am curious if someone from Anet could comment on this point, is Dry Top as a zone implemented differently from the other zones in the game in order to facilitate these weather systems or are they “technically” the same so it should be a matter of porting this feature to suitable places with time?

I would just park my character in a snow storm if those got introduced – imagine even IF they would some environmental damage to extreme weather. I.e. in a snow storm you get a permanent chill or freeze that slows you in open, exposed areas. Or fatigue in the blistering heat of a sandstorm?

I’d really love to see dynamic weather in all of the zones.
It doesn’t have to be storms, though. Heavy rain, a cloudless sky or thick fog could be options as well. Also, the idea of darker nights is great.

What is more, these types of weather should not be linked with a specific timer on when they occur… like it is now with the sandstorm.

I really love the sandstorm but it’s just predictable due to the timed event. It takes away the moment of surprise :/

Weather effects in general.

ArenaNet wants to create a Living World yet they miss on things which are more than a decade old.

Rains, storms, darker nights, foggy days, sunny days, blizzards, sandstorms. Or take it even further to landslides/floods.

If the world is called “Living” then it should live. Not only by weather alone , but NPC reacting to it.

People running to shelter/under roof when it rains, lightning torches when it’s dark, extinguishing the fires caused by lightnings.

Like why medics in Dry Top don’t use any paravan to close their tent during sandstorms?

Things like that were in first Gothic, released over 11 years ago. Get on with it and make your Living World truly living.

Oh i would love to see more things like this! The pitch black areas are some of the most fun places in the game to me, i love using the light of torches or skills to see and it’s unfortunate that there are so few of them.

I would totally be up for more extreme day/night variations and weather. Perhaps even change up what enemies and areas are in the game world when these things shift, that would be pretty great.

I can see it being annoyinng for those who can’t use torches or have glowing weapons though. They could add a new equipable item slot for lanterns or something that emits light that would only come on during darkness, while still allowing us to use our conbat skills.

DaoC had night that got dark enough to need torches, and they had a hotkey “torch” toggle, no equipment/inventory slot needed. You’d make a pool of light around you that everyone else could see. In the Realm v. Realm areas it was a tossup – be able to see the terrain, or be hidden from the gank squads?

They could just have a toggle-able “lantern” slot so you can have light at night if you wish and put the lantern away during the day or if you want to be shrouded in darkness at night.

I am definitely in agreement here!

I personally don’t want pitch darkness, though, because even though I have the Flames of Kryta from season 1, it would be frustrating and limit world exploration and things. You would just want to sit in some encampment and afk then. :/ I DO NOT mind dark*er* nights, though!

HI! I personally agree with Arvizal in that pitch black darkness would be annoying and would be very frustrating for new players. I would want weather to be random, like in real life, maybe some hints here and there, but not like “Excuse me, you have an appointment with a sand storm in 30 minutes”. Blame me for realism, but I like it that way, even in a fantasy video game.
