we'll never get new map day 1!
There wouldn’t be a legitimate lore explanation for using crystals anywhere else, so hopefully we don’t have to worry about it. The excuse for where we are in is that the crystals fell off the ship when it crashed, but there shouldn’t be crashed ships anywhere else, so there shouldn’t be crystals.
I think you mean “cynics”. But, don’t worry, there is still plenty more to be cynical about.
Day 1 for me (didn’t do the content opening day) and already bored of grinding the same events over and over and over on the same tiny nausea-inducing map in order to get geodes. Will never return after getting the recipe I need. In fact, trying to convince myself I don’t need the recipe at all.
will admit my cynicism was incorrect.
will also admit i LOVE the new area specifically because of the aspects being used for exploration (and i like the changing nature during the sandstorm). it’s a shame it won’t make sense story-wise to put them in the upcoming zones (not that all of them should have the crystals…but a bit here and there would be nice).

The truth is, you probably don’t need it. You can’t even SELL the crafted item!!!! Wtf were they thinking there lol

I don’t know, following Aeren to the western area of the map there were still crytals, and that’s pretty far from the crash sight in my opinion. the best explanation, is because the master of the zephirites and Aeren were carrying them with them. Well, we killed Aeren, but there is still the master and the inqest to spred them, so I have this dreadfull premininition that we have yet to see the last of the aspect crystals… don’t get me wrong, its an interesting mechanic, and has nice lore behind it, but hopefully it does not become a standard in gameplay

Some are pretty good for WvW.. plus most of the recipes last 1 hr.
If I could buy the crafted item, I’d definitely never return. In fact, that’s probably why they’re accountbound

…you chose to grind the day away; how you chose to play the game is up to you, so if you’d rather do the most boring, time consuming, repeditive, and overall pointless content, that’s all you; enough said I think. I spent day one exploring the map and playing the story line, which -if only just- is a far improvement from season one; and as that was the chief complaint of season one, there is much to be satisfied about.
I would like to remind you this is only a small portion of the map, so more interesting events and bosses are to come…. probably.

Always the excuse of “great things will be coming.” Fact is that what we have now is a tiny map with a very limited number of events compared to the number of event rewards we need (geodes).

I was convinced the Master of Peace was helping you. Notice the Rucksack on his back.
I like a lot of things about the new maplet. I think its fun to have the sandstorms, which I actually get lost in like a real one. I like the look of it; we didn’t have a legitimate dry desert zone yet. I think the story is good. I like the mechanics of finding the chests in the storm; it adds a sense of urgency when the dust is blowing.
But it is so small…I don’t agree with the op that having a small maplet adds to the “journeying into a new area” feel. I had that feeling when I first played GW2 and got into the entire Queensdale map the first time. It was a big map with lots of different ways to go. It took many, many runs through each Gw2 map to see everything. Try to think back to the first time you visited any of the original maps. Would you have enjoyed those maps better if you were confined to a small section of the map for an arbitrary period of time? Imagine zoning into Timberline Falls for the first time, but you are entirely limited to less than one quadrant of it.
Having us zone into a tiny area only means one thing: we will basically know that area from top to bottom in a very short time. It makes it feel small. Once the next maplet is released, I think that most people who spent a lot of time in the starting area will feel zero need to go back, and if they do, it will be a sort of tedious, grind out some more events to get something reason. I can only hope that this is a short prelude to a large release of a new area.
We got a new map? I thought that shoe-box sized desert was just the personal story instance. If the maps get any smaller, my character won’t fit in anymore.
The whole micro map is nothing else but a jumping puzzle, and to be honest, I do not play MMOs for jumping puzzles…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
Well get the whole map to explore from end to end eventually, I just thought the story based implementation of the map was interesting. We can’t go straight to maguma falls because there are so many obsticales in the way, ie the inquest, crazy silvari, difficult meguma terrain, dragon vines, and unknown zheforite complications. we have to face these issues before we can get there, or rather, these issues take precidence over some unknown dragon that our characters are ununcertain has truely arisen. At any rate, our characters are too busy helping to go off exploring. I feel if you look at it from that angle, it makes sense.

Did anyone else notice the rucksack Aerin was wearing had no bird cage on it? Maybe I was seeing things, but I think it was missing.
So, to the synics, still lack faith in Anet? Still think we were over hyping this?
Yes, I would imagine the cynics do, and yes players massively over hyped this, look at the threads claiming 2-5 zones. Your “cynics” claimed not even one map, and they were right, we got less than half a map. While the sandstorm mechanic is nice, and the small part of the map we can explore is gorgeous, personally I think the aspect crystals are way overused, talk to any players that connect from long distances (ie aus to na servers) or anyone with lag and you’ll find the crystals entirely ruin the whole experience
People want more, bigger, better content and WILL pay for it. Anet obviously aren’t doing as well as they say from this games free to play model or we would have had a large zone with a full list of events and bosses and a world boss yet after 5 months of repeated festivals and promises of less frequent but larger updates than LS 1 we get another Living Story episode that doesn’t even equal the largest LS 1 update of Southsun Cove. What a joke. BUT now Anet have gone back on what they said about less frequent and larger content and we are back to the standard of the best LS1 stories on two weekly basis it seems. We needed a full zone with events and a world boss by now.
them due to those less than polite individuals out there and their offensive attitude.
