The new armor and weapon skins
No idea what you’re talking about. Any screens or video?
Or even a description?
ditto.
I’m still downloading patch so I’m in the dark, please elaborate.
It’s just traveler armour and generic weapons.

The skins are the same of really low lvl whites, that’s the problem.

Yep, no special skins. Very plain, I’m kind of disappointed.
They already stated no new armor skins were coming out with this event. Don’t know why you expected anything different.

So whats the point of this armor merchant?
Getting cheap lvl 80 exotics, I guess?
It is no use for me really, since none of my characters need the new armor’s stats.

Seems about right. They said there wouldn’t be any new armor skins, and there aren’t.
I heard they were working on changing MF, though. I wonder why they would give another place to pick up Traveler’s. =/
Same, wish they stated that the “new armor merchants” were actually armor merchants that were new. Stated to make us get hyped for new skins :/

Epic fail, bought 64 yellow daggers for the mystic forge. now I have to throw them away one after another ^^

Nobody saw that. I certainly didn’t. Whole map was disappointed when we unlocked the merchant.
It makes no sense at any rate. It’s supposed to be an incentive to keep playing Southsun, but I can’t see how it is for anyone.
Sure, a lot of people saw it. And A lot of people brought it up whenever this discussion took place on the forums.

I wouldn’t even have a problem with them being those generic skins if they would just be a straight trade off shells for item instead of making me also pay just as much as i would have to if i wanted to buy a rare or exotic off the tp… at least if i could just trade shells for them i could get rid of my shells and forge a bunch of stuff.
No new skins.
Can’t Mystic Forge the kitten you buy.
Way too expensive for just crappy looking exotics with very niche stats (really, who benefits from it besides Ranger…? Maybe Guardian and/or Ele…? Sort of…).
Still no guaranteed way to earn/buy a Sclerite weapon.
Cheers ANet. Best disappointment of GW2 so far. Would Alt+F4 again.
The only thing they can do to redeem themselves in my eyes is to either make it possible to earn/buy sclerite weapons, or make sure they don’t end with the event.
You get the new skins from the supply box, thought all knew that …
You get the new skins from the supply box, thought all knew that …
That’s the problem. The “end game” is supposed to be aesthetic. Yet they make it completely RNG, and too rare.
The weapon skins are all starter weapon skins and armor skins are old skins from low level items.
Some pics here if you scroll down to merchant section: http://dulfy.net/2013/06/04/gw2-crazed-karka-queen-event-guide/
imho they should remove this 2 gold from those merchants and leave 70 shells alone, and allow ppl to forge those items.. it would boost karka shell price and make your time in Southsun worthwile… now i dont see ANY point of stayin in Southsun..
Stats are identical to the Apothecary prefixed gear. Which makes this gear neither new or special.

Ah no its not identical to apothy, the major trait in toughness instead of healing, much like F/F introduced sentinel gear Southsun introduced Settlers stats which i would like to be able to craft like Sent instead of dishing out 2g per piece

They’re the same 3 stats overall, but Apothecary has Healing Power as the major stat, and Settler’s gear has Toughness as the major stat. So not entirely identical.

Are they only available temporary only during the event or permanent after the event ends?

I hope you understand how increadibly disappointing that is for everyone. There was a lot of hype at the idea that there might actually be new skins after all this time, since we’ve gotten tons of new weapon skins but absolutely zero new armor skins and armor is what people really want.

it was stated that there would be no new skins/armor for this phase of the living story
This is what you get when you constantly push out new content: crap. Anet want us to farm karka shells and pay 2g to look like a Noob? We can transmute ofc, if you can buy crystals, which cost allot… smart move Anet!
When I look around on the internet allot of people are disappointed!

Please tell me its permanent. Temporary events are fine, but temporary stat combinations are not. Have you seen the price on sentinel armor? Its crazy. :/

They will be permanently available after the event ends. The karka queen world boss, Meta event, and economists are permanent content.

We’re aware that people want new armor skins. I want new ones as well, and we’re working on things. Armor skins are much more time/resource consuming and difficult as opposed to weapons.
Well at least you gave us: Fervid Censer and Sclerite Karka Shell …
A little off topic but any chance sentinel might ever come back though?
They haven’t released armor skins after each event. Halloween, Winstersday, Living Story – all the new skins that were released were weapon skins, and more often than not they weren’t available as merchant buys.
Not sure why you guys expected this – but it served as a perfect opportunity to profit off of those who speculated

It is a specific stat combo not available anywhere else in game (toughness → cond dmg/healing, as opposed to the healing → cond dmg/toughness available currently.)

Tribal skin worn by Alastia Crow and in the PvP locker is not available for players. THAT skin fits a tiki/island theme perfectly and would save work making that available to players. Why wasn’t this done?
Why weren’t the skins that were used during the first Southsun event (its introduction) used again and expanded upon for other weapons? That would have saved time and continued the island theme.

That’s a pretty good idea, actually.

I’d like to second this. Please use some of the currently unavailable PvP skins for the Southsun armors. This would require no real work on your part and make a lot of players really happy.

Then there’s no point in locking that out behind an event chain (which currently leaves the merchant on for less than 5 minutes, and likely make them practically inaccessible once the living story ends and people leave the area).
Especially since the stat combo is very niche, and will never be in much demand.
The idea of giving it the appearance of tribal PvP set is a really good one – i support it wholeheartedly.

Excuse me Robert, but some of us have spent more on this game in 9 months than a 2 years subscriptions to Rift and WoW. Keep up, you took the money now put up or shut up, it takes time is no excuse. Hire more people!
Someone can confirm that apothecary crafted armor cost less, than the “new” apothecary armor with 70 karka shell instead of 30 for crafting them ?

Why not have a monthly or bi-monthly(as in every 2 months) collaboration with the player base to design a new armour set. Utilize your player base instead of holding us at arms length while trying to impress us with rushed content. I’m sure I’m not the only 3d artist that plays gw2 that’s frustrated in seeing a decent mmo growing slowly stagnant, not due to any lack of love I’m sure, but pushing out monthly content to a monthly deadline that cannot feasibly be met with such a small team.
I’m pretty sure a set of amour, per month would not increase time and resources if Living Story content was ditched. Sorry if that’s rather harse, there’s a lot I like about this game. I don’t want to spend my free-time looking for another mmo again, do the level grind again, do the gear grind again but with the way things have been recently and unless there’s a significant change, I’m gone.
So my idea would be hold a monthly colab/comp and set a theme that the armour is to relate to. Create a gallery of moderated image’s and have people +1 the ones they like. Once the new armour is chosen and is magically available in game you have the option of either grinding out 2k badge’s from an existing dungeon to buy the set or put it in the TP for gems, hell, I’d pay in blood to see my warrior in amour I had a hand in designing. Everyone I know, would know that I had a hand in making something that is in a game they can be apart of it too. You may also find you have enough spare time to work on an expansion…..;-)
Which brings me to my next point. Players will feel more involved as a community and more inclined to play instead of “pin balling” across mmo’s when met with rng disappointment. All mmo’s do the lock box thing, it’s not new and i’m sorry but most do it better too. When you spend money in NeverWinter the lockboxes put out, The rng currently implemented in gw2 is bad, if you pay cash then you should get something. I’d be more inclined to part with my cash if I knew I would certainly be rewarded in some way.
In short, I want to support Anet, I like whats on offer, but I want it without the stuff that’s not fun.
Sorry if there are any typo’s etc, just had a lovely BBQ and too much beer.
Go Team Anet!!!

I can understand that Anet didn’t have the time to make new armor and weapon skins. No big deal. But the stats? Come on! Almost nobody is going to use these.

Based on the wording in the Southsun guide, I was under the impression that the new items would only cost karka shells:
“If all four camps are held by the players, a special merchant will appear on Pearl Islet to exchange armor for karka shells.”
Leaving out the words “and gold” was extremely misleading. At best, it’s an incomplete/inaccurate statement due to the omission. At worst, it’s false advertising.

That would be the case if they had say that they costed ONLY karka shell. They didn’t however, and anyone that actually thought it would be trade-able for shells only were quite naive.

I’m pretty sure a set of amour, per month would not increase time and resources if Living Story content was ditched.
So since you don’t like it, everyone gets to lose living story.
Gotcha.
As far as making armor vs the weapons we get now, there are a total of 19 weapons vs 8 armor slots.
Other than some possible scaling, those 19 work for all races/genders, and usually they don’t make the bows too different, and we haven’t been getting each weapon with each release.
Even skipping the aqua breather, and the back piece which seems rather hit or miss, one set of armor is 6 pieces. We have 3 armor types, 5 races, and two genders. So skipping back and aqua helm pieces, that’s 180 pieces to release for each armor type to have a full set released. 60 if you want to cheat and only do one (either by doing one set and rotating heavy/medium/light, or having the set work as all three.)
So anywhere from 3x to 6x as many pieces.
Living story isn’t just artists working – there are creature builders and writers too. Enviro artists don’t necessarily do armor/weapons.
And for legal reasons, most companies don’t like simply using fan-supplied work (even if it’s compatible with their system/graphics rig).

Be careful tossing around accusations of naivety.
The “only” is implicit in the specific wording they used. The phrase “exchange A for B” implies that one only needs to give item B to receive item A.

Especially considering this little item
2 gold is a complete rip-off.
Well, lets face it.
Living Story is inconsistent in both the content and quality. we just had loads of mini solo/group dungeons and an entirely new dungeon for 2 weeks replaced with re-hashed content, a few farmable chests then a 1 room instanced “boss” mechanic the undermines the very reason you chose your profession and now yet another Meta-Event" that is more of the same re-hash.
A waiver of all rights to intellectual property in exchange for the assurance that it’s used in the way and for the reason it was supplied is not a hard document to supply or to agree to.
Good point regarding the armour styles, however I suspect there would be many of each type submitted so I guess it would be a case of choosing a light/med/heavy out of all those submitted.
Scaling armour to fit character models and balancing vertex wieghts isn’t rocket science and is no where near as time consuming as I would imagine Molton Facility was.
It’s not that I don’t like Living Story, more that I don’t like kitten content In exchange for my time and £, and as I’ve previously said I like the game and I understand the Dev’s have alot on their plate with this and if that’s the case 1 of 2 things need to happen. Buy more Dev’s or change direction.
