Well done indeed! We need more content like this, please change all the other world bosses and dragon in similar way. Zerg encounters are incredibly boring. They hold no challenge and do not develop player skill. Defeating a dragon like new Teq actually feels rewarding and refreshing. Thank you Anet !

Honestly this is the best content the game’s put out for me. I had began losing interest and reupped a sub to a certain other game within the last week. I was expecting to be underwhelmed, but boy was I mistaken. I logged in at 3EST and was jut a part of the BG kill. We worked all day, as a server, to get people communicating, organized, and using the proper consumables. It took effort, and planning, and I’m kitten proud to be a part of it. Something I really want to highlight is the people who put a ton of effort into involving everyone. We had 130 people on TS for the fight…that takes effort. Cheers to all of you.

It’s the experience I wanted when I started playing this game, what I thought the game could become. And if this is the direction they want to go in, I’ll be a loyal customer all the way.

Cool. How do I subscribe to that? Too bad I play in EU, so I cant transfer to Blackgate server. If I would be given an opportunity to participate in this, perhaps I would be happy as well. But at the very least I wouldnt be dancing around forums telling how people are noobs and need to L2P. As of right now, I could as well take an effort of beating my head at the concrete wall for 6 hours and then attempt Tequatl while standing on my head upside down in front of a monitor. That would be a lot of effort. And it would still not change the fact that the Tequatl attempt would end up at 90% HP like all overflow tries (or 75% if I would wait long enough to get into my main server map). So please tell me again, how do I apply to that “best content the game’s put out” which you describe?

I enjoyed the fight, but if Teq’s only at like 75% with 5 minutes left. I’m jumping ship and am either gonna go champ farm, run some dungeons, or just go to the other world bosses like SB/Fire Elemental/ Golem 2/ Maw. Too much risk, not enough reward. If there’s a guarantee I’m going to finish the fight with 2-3 exotics from the chest, then I’ll truck on through, but if not, then I’d rather just go make some money.

I’ve personally never told someone to L2Play, nor have I called someone a noob. What other people do is their business and that’s not on me. I’ll willingly offer up any help I can assuming people ask.

It might not be the best for you, and that’s fine. But for me nothing comes close. This event requires coordination and organization and is less about having a build that can kill a veteran giant in 19 seconds. This is in the vein of Aetherblade Retreat, gameplay that requires something more than pounding your head against it.

And I’m sure there will be people on here who cry about it being a DPS/Gear check, but I guarantee you they’re people who haven’t actually done it. I ran a less than optimal build, with a less than optimal gear setup (because I refused to buy gear for one fight), and we still did fine. Because it was about the GROUP.

Maybe that’s not why you play this game. But it is for me. What I can do with people, with friends, with people that I spend way too much time with. That’s why I play MMO’s. Otherwise I’d stick to playing SinglePlayer games.

Love this new content, the only issue is the rewards.
I was at the first kill and the majority of players got the same type of loot that they would get from other meta events. Now my only problem with this is that when other people see this, they are going to simply not bother with this event. Which is already the case for a large amount of people I have talked to. I enjoy this type of stuff and the challenge but if sparkly is a ghost town how am I gonna be able to?

I loved this event- Tequila wiped the floor with us, it was glorious

I was in on the 3rd try last night and we did abysmally.
Even so, it was great seeing people organize, making small squads and coordinating in map rather than just auto afk for 5 min.
It was fun
Please please don’t nerf it- it is awesome as it is.
This is what all dragons should be like- A threat, deadly, difficult and awesome

Edit- I actually cheered when I saw you got nothing for a fail- at last!

Agreed. Please do NOT nerf Tequatl. If needed, buff the rewards (for succeeding, failure does and should reward nothing) so people will keep trying.

I hate to burst your bubble but if there will be no decent success ratio or a very lucrative reward for a slim chance of victory, people will stop doing this. At at least most of them will. It will be fun to bash heads at for some days or weeks but then the content will be abandoned by most players if it will not offer easy farm or amazing rewards. Those who will still stay will be too few to do anything. Thats how MMO games work. Of course if we will see an increase in win ratio, more people will come and more people will stay. But first this shift has to happen.

I don’t think it is realistic to talk about a success ratio a day after the patch.
I also like to think that there are enough players who are not addicted to loot but would like to have a challenge that people will continue to do this.
I hope it never offers an easy farm or reward for failure.

It is not like there is not a bunch of chain farms running around for the loot kittens.
I would like to keep something for the rest of us.
It is sad that people in GW2 have become so obsessed with easy lootz- and saying that this is how MMO’s work is just depressing.

I did it a few times but now its not fun anymore. If the fight was instanced for guilds it would make sense, but the level of coordination needed for an open world boss is ridiculous.

This game is all about grinding, so spending too much time on something with no reward just isn’t efficient when I could be champ farming, running dungeons, or leveling an alt.

Im glad they finally made challenging content in this game, too bad it was open world.

Map completion for the higher level maps and dungeons always drop exotics for me. but that might be because my luck is now around 153% and with food it shoots up to 170%+

Artificial difficulty = Massive health and a time limit. Pretty obvious.

Putting a time limit on him doesn’t increase the difficulty of fighting him, it just turns it into a gear/dps/number of players in the zone check. Which is lame.

The timer is to keep people from trying to drag it out for too long or farming the minions that spawn for xp/loot/whatever (though the champ mobs don’t drop anything). The health boost is to keep him from dying in less than a minute so that more people can take part.

Every other world boss got at least the same two changes, and no one’s having a problem with them in those cases.

Don’t you Princess Bride me! :P

Things contributing the Artificial Difficulty

1. Poison Clouds that are difficult to see and tick before graphics appear
2. Water Waves that are out of sync with the graphics.
3. Reliance on turrets that could be used by trolls or afk players
4. Tequatl becoming deselected due to his own movement animations.
5. Time Limit which is basically just a DPS check.

There’s also other things that are contributing to a higher difficulty, though I suppose they are not of the traditional artificial difficulty. Overflows consisting of a random assortment of people who may not actually work together. Small servers simply not having enough people to properly fight Teq and work on turrets. AFK players scaling up the event while not contributing. Dead players also scaling up the event. Bad instructions of mechanics, ensuring that a fresh group of players will fail at least once before learning how things work.

It’s actually a bit interesting that if the time limit wasn’t there, or the first phase was easier, we’d probably see a lot more people beating Tequatl. Once the laser hits him once, a group can almost deal enough damage to knock him right into the next phase.

In any case, there are a lot of factors outside of your average players control. Which is why most people that are beating him are either forming a big coordinated group on an empty overflow, or guesting over to a low population server so they can coordinate there outside of overflows.

Your #1,#2, and #4 are not artificial difficulty, those are just little things you have to learn from. #3 has nothing to do with the mechanics of the fight, thats just people being people.

Artificial difficulty is something that doesn’t change how you fight a boss, it simply makes it more tedious or puts an unrelated restriction on the fight. AKA slapping a ton of HP onto a boss, or adding a timer. Neither of those actually change the strategy of the fight, or the mechanics, they just make it more difficult for no real reason other than to make it harder.

The bosses that had buffed HP were dying in 2 minutes anyway. In fact, they were dying so quickly that a player attacking them might not even get credit if they did not deal enough damage.

The time limits that were added were mostly to just add a fail condition. I’d argue that they weren’t needed, but for the most part they don’t matter. A group will still bring those bosses down with plenty of time to spare. The time limit did not change anything for them.

5. Time Limit which is basically just a DPS check.

1. If you’re having difficulties seeing a giant cloud of poo gas, you may want to mess with your graphics settings, especially since there are a thousand other jerks in the area at the same time.
2. Have yet to have an issue jumping the waves. Again, probably a graphics issue on your end. If you’re having that many troubles, stay back and help defend the turrets.
3. The number of people that actually contribute always outnumbers the kittennozzles, and any AFKers that pick up a turret will just get themselves killed by the first poison cloud that hits them, allowing someone actually wanting to help to rebuild it and take over.
4. This one is more of a bug, and should hopefully be fixed soon.
5. No other encounter has had a problem with the time limit. Just means you can’t kitten around like you could before.

Again, stop throwing around terms you don’t understand.

Hi guys and Anet Whiteside Ridge (EU) here.

I think the best that we got Teq down to was 80%. It wiped our server, killed me a dozen of times, made people rage quit.

It also made our sevrer organize, use tactics, actually listen to commanders, and fight with such commitment as never before.

So a really good job there! I won’t give up until he is defeated, and I know many others on my server who are thinking the same.

Thanks for discounting two of my issues as just graphical problems. Personally, I’d mark those up as being part of the artificial difficulty. There’s no reason that those can’t be easier to see. Even the Liadri circles were more clear since they were at least not covered up by another effect, and fell in a pattern.

Avoiding the shockwaves is certainly doable, but there’s still a strange latency at play. Also, when using the stacking method right near his feet, it then becomes nearly impossible to jump or dodge in time

It’s not be all artificial difficulty, but there is enough of it there to add to the overall difficulty.

(Of course, now I’m really just fighting you on this because you had to pull out that annoying phrase. )

So a really good job there! I won’t give up until he is defeated, and I know many others on my server who are thinking the same.

And in here lies the nub of the problem: there will be a core of people who will keep trying until they succeed. What then? Will you keep spending hours every single day getting ready for one boss so that you can possibly succeed again? Much more likely is people will drift away as they realise for most servers the rewards just aren’t worth the effort.

Or they will join the server hopping guesting low population TKS guild or similar, which will also most likely become a ghost after a few weeks.

If they revamp the other dragons like this, then a lot of casual players will either quit or just be excluded from the best source of dragonite in the game.

If you need dragonite (like me, still need around 20,000 more to equip my level 80 full exotics alts )then best to ensure you farm the current dragons before they screw those over too.
