Is it possible to throw people to the character selection screen if they are inactive for a few minutes? Most people are just waiting there whole day while doing something else outside of game, not giving other people a fair chance of getting there.
Also a lot of them are only responding minutes after the event actually started.
I know you can get kicked out of the game for inactivity, but the time needed is far to long imo, I don’t really care if they are akitten cities, but on big events like this the time needed should be reduced drastically.
Good grief…this is so frustrating. It really hurts our efforts to get active bodies into the instance that are in TS and know what’s going on.
What do you suggest for people who are being very active but are on their third Teq attempt for the day (do the math on the hours) and really have to eat something or faint? That was me today. I left for under twenty minutes to chow down, got back before my screen saver even kicked in. 5 minutes wouldn’t have let me do that and I prefer not to have food in my computer area.
The time to kick is less than the over an hour to respawn, anyway. I’d be much more in favor of what others have suggested: a couple of warning ready checks with boots for people that don’t respond to them within a 5 minute window before spawn. That way players needn’t be chained to their keyboard for an hour of nothing happening but can come back when the window starts so they don’t miss a ready check.
That’s on general principle. TC killed him today after I stuck it out for the 4 fights, and I got the meta, so I’ll only be fighting him for fun in the future. I still don’t think anyone should be forced to stay in one place for hours just to keep their place in a fifteen minute fight. That’s not healthy.
you guys didn’t want instanced raids..you wanted open world..well deal with it. i have to..and it blows. but what is open world afterall? it’s a bunch of kitten you can’t control like people who aren’t doing what you need them to do. it blows…but its also what we asked for.
Donari,
Simple. Only have the kick (1 minute timer) while the event is actively happening. That means you can wait to your heart’s content, but when the event starts, you have to be actively participating or leave.

This sounds great. I would also add that putting in a longer pre-event notice would help immensely. It’s not that everyone is just afk mowing the lawn… some people have just been waiting since the last spawn and are checking in occasionally (and I totally understand why they would do this). If there was a longer notice this wouldn’t be as big of a deal for those players.
I would rather see the people who are afk get moved to the overflow to create room for those who are active. Have a pop up that says “Due to inactivity you are being moved to the overflow” or something like that and give them 30 seconds to click a button to prevent the move. keep people who are active together and the afkers parked on their own overflow. I have yet to run this event on my home server.
Yeah. Don’t get me wrong, I’m guesting, but it sucks to not be able to play in your own instance. I’ve been lucky enough to guest on the main instance of some larger servers, but I’ve seen as many as 60 players AFK at the (contested) WP for the entire duration of the event. That’s ridiculous.

They’re the more reasonable type of AFKer. The really bad ones gather on and around the launching platform at the eastern turrets, causing champions to spawn to assault the turrets.

The fight should be a activated event/instanced that way you can turn it on whenever everyone is ready. Hell yesterday we were in the middle of setting up in CD at the window and guess what? 1sec into the window he spawned and killed everyone.
There should be in my opinion a 15 minute window of inactivity before kicking to character select, in every map, except home instance (for roleplay reasons). I find it really weird that they don’t have such a mechanic. There are so many people parked in the wrong places so many times, they get killed or are in the way of some event scaling it up. So why hasn’t there been implemented a server kick when idling?
There is an idle kick. Problem is, it takes so long to activate in PvE maps, most players never see it.
Heh, whatever the kicking system was in this game, its doing a very poor job at it. I was kick off from my server while I was crafting, selling junk to the merchant nearby, and rearranging my inventory while I wait for the Tequatl event to occur.
The current kick method is screwy. I’ll leave the house for a McDonald’s run, eat, and be on the character screen when I come back. McDonald’s is less than five minutes from my house, so it’s maybe 30 minutes tops. But I can sit in Sparkfly for an hour without touching the keyboard, reading a book at my desk while I wait, and never get the dc message once.
Does that make any sense? Nope.
Please do something about this ANET
I’m sitting here in overflow having waited for more than an hour to get into my home instance with no luck, listening to my mates on TS. And I can hear them complaining about the AFK’s. There must be a way round this, two would be:
- Give preference to people on their home instance to those guesting
- Kick after a short period of inactivity when in or close to the dragon appearing
And please please sort out the server load management. There is nothing more frustrating than waiting an hour only to get d/c’d once the action starts. I have had to go through that experience three times in a row now – all is fine then as soon as the dragon lands I get d/c’d.
The event/content is great ANET but please make sure your systems can handle the load before putting this sort of thing out again.
