I can’t speak for other high population servers, but this problem exists on my server. Hoping to save their spot in non-overflow, people are Akitteng at Tequatl usually on the jump pad by the East turrets. This is an issue for two main reasons:

1. AFKers are taking spots on the server that other people could have that would actually contribute to the fight.

2. Akitteng by the East turrets causes the mob spawns to scale creating champions and silvers making it much more difficult to defend.

I’m not sure how these people are able to AFK for so long without being kicked from game. It is making many of the Tequatl attempts struggle and sometimes leads to failure because there aren’t enough people to compensate for the AFKers. It’s very demoralizing to have the battle fail by just enough that if those AFKers weren’t here, or if they were here to help that it could have succeeded. I know low population servers have issues of their own, and I know the higher population servers have other issues as well, but I feel the AFK issue is the largest nuisance on the list.

I’ve always felt (and even made posts about it on the beta forums before release) that the AFK timer is way too long, specially considering WvW queues and now with events like these. Personally I feel that the AFK kick timer should be made much shorter if you’re on a WvW map or on a spot where an event like this happens, something like the time you’re given in sanctum sprint sounds good enough for this.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

I think if an overflow is created on that map, the timer should go to 45 seconds to a minute. If your afk for over 60 seconds, your swapped out with someone on the overflow.

We’ve been experiencing this on Sorrow’s Furnace. Totally frustrating.

I agree with this post. I know for a fact about useless afkers because 2 stayed near fishheads and dying but people kept rezzing them even though they were told consistently that the ppl were afk. That makes them appear to be active to the game. (Yes I swore off the useless fight) I did go back once only to fail yet again. Ah well a girl can hope. GAME ON

People ress the AFKers on purpose to break their armor. A little payback I suppose.

IT’S A SWORD. THEY’RE NOT MEANT TO BE SAFE.

I’m guilty of doing that, too. It serves two purposes. 1.) It breaks their armour and 2.) the broken armour gives visual notice to everyone else — because they’re only wearing underwear after a point — that there’s a perma-AFK person.

I totally agree on this. I mean even during the bazaar of four winds event had the spirit race where even though the race was deemed complete you still had to move around or risk getting booted from it. We need something to boot those AFKers, least on the main servers, not the overflows.

Think maybe we can report them and have ANet disconnect them so people from their home servers can actually get to play in the Teq fights. Nothing more annoying than spamming for 3 or more hours to join your party only to keep missing fights.

This. Being AFK at the Sanctum Sprint would do no harm to anyone, but you could be kicked for it.
Being AFK during a boss fight harms everybody that wants to complete the event, but you can’t be kicked for it.

It makes no sense at all.
