I apologize if this topic exists, however it’s very hard to find because there are many “hairstyle” threads. I checked a handful of them and they’re all asking for this or that hairstyle, and I didn’t see any asking for ethnic hairstyle, aka “black” hair.

Anyway, I was creating my human female today, and all the hairstyles are not something typical of what you’d see on a black woman unless they have straightened their hair. It may be different for males though, idk what hairstyles they have.

Has anyone else noticed this? I see a lot of people would like more styles added, just throwing one I want out there as well…

Welcome to gw2 where apparently everyone surrounding the Dark skinned Krytan Queen is apparently light skin. Which is funny because kryta was a country full of brown skin folks in guild wars 1.

So this isn’t new, this is how it has always been. The options presented are not well thought out for other ethnic groups.

Hopefully the Norn female braids and Asura female Afro-puffs will be made available for human female characters.

I made my character black (because my norn is white), but all the hairstyles just look lame on her because they’re unnatural. I saw a guy at the trading post with an afro (I THINK it was human, could’ve been norn I guess), so maybe you can buy it with the character redesign thing? I’m not sure and I don’t want to spend gems on it if it doesn’t have an ethnic hairstyle…

The afro style is a basic hairstyle choice for male humans and asura (don’t think it’s a choice for male Norn, but I could be mistaken).

I concur, Though I’d also like to note that Elonian humans don’t necessarily have naturally curly hair, and some canthans/tyrians DO have naturally curly hair!

As far as I can tell from looking at NPCs in GW1 and GW2, in tyria, hair is much more flexible a genetic marker than on earth, and thus, dark skin and african-looking features don’t automatically equate to tightly curled hair, but rather hair is more like eye color, in that it’s far more genetically isolated.

That said, I’d love to see some more tight curls, relaxed curls, dredlocks, afros, braids, and other options avaliable for humans to give us the sort of “hair type” diversity asura enjoy.
