Are Warriors Op?
EU Elona Reach – Void Sentinels
No other class in GW2 is capable of combining top survivability, top CC, top damge and top buff/debuff capabilities all in one build. I wont say the damge the warrior deals is OP, I wont say the survivability is OP, I wont even say the CC’s or the buffs are OP. I just say that the combination of all those aspects are OP. You can have your damage. But don’t claim to be tanky and specced with a hell lot of CC’s at the same time. And that’s the problem with the warrior right now.
Engineer has good mobility, good defensive tools, good aoes, good kit-ability, good aoe CC, good unblock-able CC, good team support, variation of conditions and stealth.
just saying.
1. The engineer can’t offer all those aspects all together in one build
2. Isn’t the engineer considered OP in spvp?
The thing that bugs me is that warrior was terribly UP. they got buffed and now they can compete vs the other OP classes (Mesmers, Thieves, Necros, Engineers). I can understand anyone playing UP classes to want some balance but all I have been seeing over the past 2 months is OMG WARRIOR OP PLZ NERF threads and hardly any threads calling for nerfs(rebalancing) to other classes (except Thief Stealth). Now the geniuses at Anet will look at that and say OMG SO MANY QQ AGAINST WARRIOR NERF IT and warriors are back to being terribly UP while the other OP classes (builds) keep getting free kills from everyone. If you take a look at the big picture, warrior is not terribly OP, it’s just as OP as every other OP class (build) out there. Hence it is balanced in an OP meta.
Isn’t the Spirit Ranger also terribly OP in PvP?

1. So the engineer has also too much viability in one build compared to other classes.
2. I don’t play PvP. Just hearing rumors…

Like I said before. I don’t have any problem with the builddiversity of the warrior.
But if he has all those aspects in one build it should be limited.
The hammer is a great example. Guardian hammer offers much CC and boons to your teammates. Yet it deals low damage, so you probably wont use it in a solo raoming build.
So why is the warrior hammer, which offers even more CC, capable of killing enemies on it’s own?

A Guardian Hammer give protection on autoattack and when trait can also heal from that AA and also has a blast finisher that doesn’t require wasting adrenaline. It is a support weapon and it has just as much CC as the warrior hammer. When traited differently the guardian hammer can have some good DPS. It’s just that most guardians don’t spec that way. The Warrior’s Hammer is punishment weapon it doesn’t have the support that Guardians do.. It actually doesn’t have incredible DPS due to slow animations that are easily dodge or blinded but it has High Burst potential. You control the fight with careful CC management, wait for you foe to make a mistake then you lock them down and burst them. If you think the Hammer Warrior is bad, I would hate to see how you would react to my AM/SwSh roaming build.

ITT: A bunch of people who got killed by warriors and are mad about it and want anet to make them free kills again.
That’s a stupid answer, which will be ignored. If you have some arguments against the prevalent opinion that the warrior has too much power, bring them on the table. If you don’t, stop posting your own, emotionally attached, view.
Prevalent opinion? You mean a few people making the same stupid arguments against warriors over and over? That kind of prevalent?
It’s funny. You tell me not to tell me to bring my emotionally attached view yet that is exactly what causes the majority of these nerf <skill/class> threads. I’m being just as unbiased as everyone else and backing my arguments up with just as many facts as well.
There’s a lot of misconceptions about warriors being the best at everything. They are merely good at a lot of things. If we make them worse at those things warrior will go back to being the free kill they were for the first 10-12 months of the games life in wvw and pvp. But I guess most people consider that balanced and fair.
Honestly you guys should be asking anet to undo nerfs they’ve put in for other classes not asking for warrior to be nerfed.
Engi has no place in the current meta. Believe me on that.
Yes.
The issue here is a simple matter of skill requirements for results. Just like Minion Master Necromancer, a Warrior doesn’t have to have an extensive knowledge of Guild Wars 2 mechanics to be effective. This makes it very intimidating to “same level” players. The fact that the primary profession mechanics of the Warrior are immunities to key effects of Guild Wars 2 (Crowd Control, Conditions, and even Damage) makes counter play non-exsistant. There for, intermediate PvP players will feel helpless and frustrated and with good reason. It’s my opinion that immunities to anything can seriously hurt a competitive atmosphere This coupled with the fact, mechanically speaking Warriors are essentially a solid “jack of all trades” having excellent mobility, highest health pool, strong hybrid damage, solid trait lines and access to potent condition removal makes them have a considerable head start.
I’m not posting this to say that I hate warriors. I have spent a lot of time on all professions, And I can generally beat Warriors on any of them on any build and if I don’t it’s usually for a mistake on my part. It’s just the methods required are silly and not very competitive. This usually involves simply running or “kiting” until 1 of their 3-4 immunities expires. (5 If you include runes of Lissa) before you can actually engage the Warrior.
Warriors divine prowess begins to fade in higher-end PvP as players adapt to their many Passives. But the goal here is to make GW2 PvP attract more of a player base and this is a counter intuitive profession design. (My opinion) I’s not fun to play, and it’s not fun to play against.
So the answer to the OP’s question is Yes.

And they shouldn’t be. While this game has had FAR more misses than hits, I’d like to think ANet has gotten more classes right than wrong.
If we assume Guardians as the baseline, than Warriors, Engineers, Necromancers, and Thieves are all mostly balanced. If we assume Rangers as the baseline, every class is wildly overpowered.

Warrior isn’t the best all around class. Guardians are.
They are the most balanced. How can they be the bests?
Balanced means they’re in the middle.

Balanced means they’re in the middle.
They are the best for PvE dungeons or fractals why do you think everyone asks for a guardian first when making a party.
In WvW zerg or organized guilds, the frontline will completely fall apart and backline will get wiped without several good guardians.
PvP, Guardians are on par if not better than Warriors for holding points.
Solo PvE, pretty much even with warrior. Warrior does more damage but I can just stand there and sprinkle fairy dust with my guardian staff auto attack for the win without ever needing to heal.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
yep they pretty much are. among other things that needs to be fixed. kind of amazing game’s been out that long and nada. i wonder how they do testing.
Let’s be objective for a bit (or at least try to be).
The warrior was in a miserable place.
The choice was to incrementally buff the class or get it very quickly to be useful.
The right choice was made being buff it quickly.
When you buff a class quickly, you often wind up with too much power or unintended consequences etc.
You need to be as quick about readjusting (nerfing) it back to the mean.
But human nature comes in.
Warriors who “unwrapped” their presents don’t want to give them back.
But the other choice would have been to buff a class that was pretty horrible over 6 months+ to “get it right the first time”.
God help us all if that “human nature” results in the pendulum swinging to “small incremental buffs” for the ranger or elementalist.
If you want to see these classes buffed quickly, then you must press the warrior class to accept the very reasonable need for nerfs now to keep this much faster model of balance on the table.
Instead of nerfing everything all the time. Why no buff the weak professions instead?
Takes more time? Yes. Is that an exuse? No. It’s there jobs.
Because of power creep. Look a buff to other classes is effectively a nerf to yours anyway.
Then you have all the PvE where all of a sudden mobs and bosses go down easily because everyone has a new mean of power.
Warriors were over buffed to get them to be playable again. Kudos to ANet for being bold. But now warriors need to be sensible and realize that ANet chose to go fast and far and needs to claw back some of the excess.
Trust me, you wouldn’t have wanted to wait 6-8 months to have 4 patches with small incremental buffs so you FINALLY would be playable again.
You can’t buff every class and not break the game.

Sound like a great plan. It will fix it, so why not? Takes more time, yes. But it’s a lot better than these nerf this, nerf that threads. That pops up every hour on the forums.
At least, we can all rest easily knowing that Warrior players are handicapping themselves, so when the appropriate changes are made/they play another profession, they’ll still be easy kills regardless ft. whine threads.
I mean that being said the only issue I have with them is Healing Signet but that’s being partially addressed and it’s nothing Poison can’t fix what with it being so easily accessible (to be blunt I have more of an issue with Petting Zoo specs). I do see both sides of the argument; some people have adapted to the changing Zeitgeist of the current sPvP meta as they should and as is expected, and on the other hand Warriors do have it pretty kitten good right now.
Alas it’s a comforting thought though, right? More rank points for us in the eventuality?
Yes.

So the answer to the OP’s question is Yes.
You have summarised exactly why they are NOT OP in your own post. You claim that (and I’m using your own words here):
“The fact that the primary profession mechanics of the Warrior are immunities to key effects of Guild Wars 2 (Crowd Control, Conditions, and even Damage) makes counter play non-existent”
So you say counter play is non existent, yet in your own post you contradict yourself and say:
“It’s just the methods required are silly and not very competitive. This usually involves simply running or “kiting” until 1 of their 3-4 immunities expires." And you yourself say you have no problem against this seemingly “OP” profession. It seems a lot of you simple do not understand what Over Powered means.
Warriors can be countered by Kiting, porting, evades, blocks, well timed dodges etc… etc… there are numerous and plentiful ways of countering warriors across all professions. Their hammer chain for example is predictable. GS + Hundred Blades predictable. Shield bash into ANY burst move, predictable. Even with cleansing ire they are still vulnerable to conditions and GOOD player will time their condition burst and most warriors run the exact same builds and weapon sets, so you are never likely to encounter something that isn’t just a cookie cutter clone of every other war player out there. The playerbase should have by now figured out how to counter such a well represented profession.
Warriors are NOT OP, they are a pretty well rounded profession. Some of the other professions just need the same focus by aNet to get them into a good place too.
Cyrus Glitch – sPvP/tPvP Mesmer
Doctor Loki – sPvP/tPvP/WvW Power Necro
I don’t agree with the obvious/telegraphed moves/predictable argument. I don’t play my warrior as much as before, which was a lot, but can’t that predictability be overcome by being erratic and unpredictable? If a current weakness of a warrior is highly telegraphed moves can’t it be used in their favor by adapting the playstyle of the build via feints/making people waste dodges/etc?
Loco:
Anytime that one argues that other classes should be made better to “meet the warrior”, they are in effect saying that “indeed the warrior is unbalanced” but the fix should be to make other classes like it.
So Warrior is indeed OP unquestionably. The next issue is what should be done.
Buffing other classes requires far more design and impacts far more areas of the game (from dungeons to power creep to AI to designing all new skills etc) than nerfing.
Warriors are like the child who accidentally opened their sibling’s Christmas presents and now want to keep all of them.

That’s what the good warriors do.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
There are some aspects of the warrior that are OP, are they slightly overpowered? Yes. People say we hack and slash and faceroll to victory. OK? Give us utilities and skills that aren’t "+180 Power, gain might and fury, gain stability, gain condition immunity" and that are also not passive in nature. Give us cool skills that allow us the opportunity to outplay opponents. Thieves have stealth and shadow step, mesmers have teleports, stealth, shatter mechanics, etc.
Simply put a warrior that doesn’t use either a hammer or a longbow are actually quite a bit underpowered compared to most classes and large global nerfs to the class will kill any build diversity or opportunity for any of these weapons to be used because they will be totally underpowered by then, reinforcing the hammer/longbow meta or either one of those weapons.
Yes.

I’m not talking about utility/ weapon base mobility skills. I’m talking about literally turning around and resetting a fight. When I say “Running or kiting” I mean literally kiting or running until the fight is reset. You have the right to view that as competitive play but it is my opinion, particularly in a conquest game mode that having to reset 2-3 times to beat a profession is silly.
And I’m simply saying one of the main reasons why the Warrior is getting a lot of grief is because of its very low skill requirement it can make new players frustrated since they bring everything to the table with a lot of leeway to make mistakes. And just because something can be defeated doesn’t make it not “over powered.”
Surly you don’t think warriors are in a balanced spot currently, and that they should remain untouched?

Because I don’t believe that warriors need any nerfs. I believe that other professions that rely on their OP gimmicks need to be fixed to make them more viable in other roles. Guardians ,while balanced, need a little more offensive power. Thieves need to rely on stealth less. Mesmers need builds other than PU or viel bot. Necros shouldn’t have to rely on bumfire to be viable. Eles need to be made slightly easier to play and add more build flexiblity (you either have to go full dps or full bunker anythign in between is really meh). Engis need builds that go beyond just running around in a circle spamming all their cooldowns or spamming rifle 1. Rangers really need help. Warriors are in a good place along with Guardians and really shouldn’t need more than a few tweaks. It’s every other profession that is broken that needs to be fixed.
