Eh, I’d say that the RTL nerf had the right idea. If a change needs to be made, it should be to bring the mobility skills from other classes back into line with RTL instead of the other way around. As much as I love using RTL + FGS mobility to run when I really should just die, even in the nerfed state it’s a bit much.

If they wanted to nerf RTL, they should have done it in a way that was consistent with every other skill in the game. The double CD on miss is still a ridiculous penalty, since it triggers on blind/block/evade/invuln as well as simply out of range.
They nerfed it because they wanted it to be used to engage targets, rather than run away from them. Well, if the attack was blocked, then I was trying to engage with it. So why am I still being punished so harshly?

I think this is off the table at this point unless it’s in this upcoming patch. This is hot button been going on for months on the ele forums, it comes up close to every balance patch and pops up in every balance discussion. If they where going to revert it they would have already.

They shouldn’t revert the nerf, they should however make it so if you would have hit anything it gets half CD, IE you being blinded, blocked evaded, invulned etc wouldn’t count as a “miss” when it comes to the CD, only an actual miss should hurt the CD so that the skill still is a very reliable engage, but isn’t totally broken in terms of escape and reentering combat.

well to be honest some of the nerfs were a little harsh. when anet nerfed ele a lot that was all before they buffed all the other classes. same with mesmers. our bb and glamour build nerfs were very harsh and i think those things should be looked at again by anet. maybe buff certain things a little bit now instead of throwing a bunch of useless gm traits and random buffs where we dont need it.

Please don’t try and say that we shouldn’t revert the nerf of RTL because of diamond skin. That’s probably the worst argument I’ve seen concerning Ele. You think RTL has extreme OP burst? LOL again. Lol diamond skin is awful. Also the video doesn’t show anything other than an organized guild rolling over awful pug zergs in wvw that happens every day on every class.
Or we could apply the same logic to all of the utilities that provide damage and utility on ele.
Cleansing flames? Hit someone with the damage portion and boom, 21 sec cd (traited of course).
Lightning flash? Same deal.
“But what about arcane skills?” you ask. Arcane wave is halved if you hit someone instead of just using it to burst combo fields, same with arcane brilliance.
Arcane shield? We don’t want eles using skills to disengage or prevent damage without being punished for running (stand there and die already!). So now if you hit someone with the burst from the shield breaking we will also halve the cooldown! Same applies to arcane brilliance (we already make you have to hit targets for a full heal, but some of you crafty eles are using it to blast your fire, water, and lightning fields away from combat)
So there you have it, now eles are rewarded for staying in meat grinder range!

Oh yeah, I forgot that the minimum health and armor class is tankier and more mobile than the highest health and armor class that also has massively better heals with less investment.
Of course, the latter is your main so I wouldn’t expect you to actually take a look at it objectively.
I still wonder why they didn t revert it soon.

Without a reliable gap closer you are too easy to be kited…..
But seems balancing dev doesn t want to admit a serious mistake everyone saw coming…..so they are changing ALL the ele without success, without actually addressing the real problem….
And they nerfed far too many skills to “balance” changing traits…..
Traits hurts build variety because you end up depending on them because your skill sucks….
Thus you are forced both in combining theoffensive or the defensive …. 2 builds its all you can have.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

I know. Keep it the way it is. However:
1) Make it Unblockable So that when i hit someone just because they have Aegis it should NOT put it on full cool down
2) Removes all Control CC – Cripple, Immbo, Chill, ect.
3) Immune to CC while in the Lightening form thing.
These changes happen and i would be fine for it to stay the way it is. The amount of times i have used it and been instantly given Immbo and such so i dont move is insane. It is VERY easy to dodge as it is. At least it could be used to remove things like Immbo, Chill and Cripple.

It’s great, but elementalists will never be as tanky as warriors if only because of the necessity to eventually switch out of earth if you want to do something other than die slowly.

I don’t think you realize what putting 30 points into earth means. It breaks ele builds so hard it’s not even funny, it means we have to sacrifice going deep into water/arcana where all our survivability and utility sits, or fire/air where all our damage comes from.

It’s great, but elementalists will never be as tanky as warriors if only because of the necessity to eventually switch out of earth if you want to do something other than die slowly.
Many D/D players already can bunker for a long time even right now when they are terrible. Stone heart + unnerfed RTL will make warrior laughable.

Immune to crit has nothing to do with mobility and prevents ele from dealing damage leaving it still exposed to conditions (expecially immob).
So i don t get it.

I have leveled all professions to 80, predominantly in WvW. I do not main an ele (I play all of them but strongly main an engineer) and I am strongly for RTL reverted back or fixed. I never understood this particular change out of all the nerfs the ele received.

Ever try catching an ele with per-nerf rtl? It was literally impossible, it moved way to quickly and over the moon and it was a joke. Maybe 40 seconds was too much but hey, your #5 is also a 40 second cd so it has synergy even for being the most predictable combo out of any profession.

Seriously though. Prenerf RTL’s ground speed wasn’t any better than a warrior’s GS, or the new rocket boots, or just about any thief’s setup. Even rangers can match it with swoop and sword 2, though that would take two weapon sets.

What about if i want to actually use it for its designed purpose?
Its a pity that is so telegraphed that anyone will just evade/block/invul it putting it at 40 sec CD with the ele unable to stay in fight range……
It cripples ele so much its opponent can disengage whenever he wants.
P.S. i would be happy if the same nerf was applied to other professoins too expecially THIEF and Warrior….but still on DD is more than an issue…because even mesmer can disengage at will.

Do you even know that RTL was bugged to 1,500 range pre-nerf and fix and that it’s fixed now?

So, you haven’t heard of dodge, Aegis, Invul and other skills then? ALL of which even if you HIT the target put it on a 40 second cool down. It is strange that Ele mobility was broken and nerfed yet Warrior who currently have MUCH better mobility is perfectly fine….
To be fair like 90% of our weapon, utility and Elite skills have cool downs that are simply a joke.

Prenerfed RTL is the reason why D/D Ele were the king of PvP. You can do wreck things up, run away, heal up and then go back to kill some more. No amount of condis will hold them down because they have too much condi removal. Then they’ll just escape before you can pop up another snare.

Try killing some from range as a D/D ele. You saying that ele give up nothing is just silly. With D/D we are 100% melee. We go out of that and we do NO damage, we cant swap to another weapon set like everyone else.
So no, Ele doesn’t have “everything” Pretty much EVERY ele build sacrifices something.

D/D eles are no more 30/30/30/30/30 than warriors.
If you’re running enough cleanse that no condis will lock you down, then you’re deep in water and likely arcana, and won’t be doing much damage. If you rely on ether renewal then you’re not going to be staying on a point, since it’s so incredibly easy to interrupt now that it can no longer be used in mist form.
ANY ele that isn’t bunkered to high heaven always has high risk for their reward.

It’s because it’ll ruin them just like it did to ele’s which is the point people are trying to make; to get things balanced so it’s fair for ele’s again in their current state.

Anything that can be used to easily get away from battle should be hit hard.
It’s bad enough thieves can just Stealth and run away, you want to make elementalists into cowards too?
No way. I’d rather die than run away. The last thing the mists needs is more cowardice. It needs Balthazar and the Zaishen coming back, and honor, and the bravery to fight to death even if the rest of the players have left and you are the last one in your team, not more ways to run away.
I know. Keep it the way it is. However:

Now this are changes I can get behind.
Stupid aegis gets in the way all the time (it even works in activities, making crabs and kegs disappear all the time, which is horribly annoying). Running to an enemy, charging into battle should not increase its recharge under any circumstances. Only running away from battle should. So not even missing because of blindness or hitting an invulnerable foe should affect the recharge when you use it to charge towards a foe.
Ride the lightning is inspired by a skill that was actually a shadowstep. In GW2 is basically a slow teleport that makes you move fast at the expense of losing control over your actions, and not being able to use skills. So it makes sense for it to at least ignore any kind of snare while it lasts. It doesn’t even have to remove crippled, chilled and immobilize, but at least ignore their effects while it’s active, then snare you again for the remaining durations.
Same as before, your movement must be unhindered while you ride the lightning. CCs should not work in your path until it ends. If you can go through a CC effect like Unsteady Ground or a Warding with Infiltrator’s Arrow or Lightning Flash, Ride the lighting should let you get though that too.

What is wrong with small incremental adjustments? Warriors did receive massive nerfs and numerous small incremental nerfs. Just like Ele.

Lol, Vapor Blade is mid range at best and deals like no damage what so ever. So that doesn’t really count due to the fact that it is NOT a ranged skill, its mid-range and deals like no damage what so ever.
Really you comparing a weapon set that CAN kill people from range to Vapor Blade that couldn’t kill ANYONE due to the fact the damage is awful and its mid-range. Tip – A Longbow warrior WILL kill a Vapor Blade Ele and won’t even take any damage.
Melee = 0 – 240Range

D/D ele has NO range skill.
I know. Keep it the way it is. However:
1) Make it Unblockable So that when i hit someone just because they have Aegis it should NOT put it on full cool down
2) Removes all Control CC – Cripple, Immbo, Chill, ect.
3) Immune to CC while in the Lightening form thing.
These changes happen and i would be fine for it to stay the way it is. The amount of times i have used it and been instantly given Immbo and such so i dont move is insane. It is VERY easy to dodge as it is. At least it could be used to remove things like Immbo, Chill and Cripple.
No need for unblockable. Just make it so a block = connecting. Because despite the fact they blocked the damage, it STILL touched them.

I understand why people are afraid of it being Un-nerfed but that is not the reason why D/D ele’s were the king before. It was because of the infinite boon up time that they had. Either way, the CD needs to be reduced. I would be satisfied at a 30sec CD as well as it being an evade. I mean, it’s the same kitten thing as a teleport except that it lasts longer and you can see it. Thieve’s have so many teleports but you cannot do damage or interrupt them or anything when they teleport not to mention they get to their destination immediately. I understand that using it as a way to escape a fight should get punished in a way (every other class should abide by this rule as well) but I believe that as long as you have a target and you hit that target, doesn’t matter if they block it or anything, then it should not be put on the longer CD. I’ll put my suggested changes in bullets.
- Reduced CD on use with no target from 40sec CD to 30sec CD
- Acts as an evade
- Blocking or dodging it will not put it on longer CD, only negate the damage
This will make RTL extremely more viable as well as making it not a skill used easily for escape as 30sec is still too long of a CD to make it a reliable spammy escape tool but will also make it so that it doesn’t seem more of a utility than a weapon skill.

D/D ele sacrifice less than a mobility warrior. If Mobility warrior wants to be more mobile than Ele, then he has to give up something. A mobility warrior is not a 30/30/30/30/30 build. Ele still has everything because his mechanics gives him everything.

First there is no “mobility ele”….
Second the time you equip DD you are stuck in short range….with warrior you can equip a Bow or something and pair with GS…
And still be faster than an ele….
Warrior beats ele at mobility even 0/0/0/0/0 its all about weapon skills not traits….
Warrior gives up simply nothing.
P.S. don t suggest anet to bring RTL to 30…its not good its the only reliable gap closer the weapon has….needs to be lower….they can even remove all the damage but its needed to keep us in fight
p.P.S. prenerfed ele simply did 1 to 5% more damage with 25 water….but the only thing that wasn t nerfed was DSP because in other trait was buffed…
Worth nothing since except for burst on AFK opponents you can t land your hits.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

Try killing some from range as a D/D ele. You saying that ele give up nothing is just silly. With D/D we are 100% melee. We go out of that and we do NO damage, we cant swap to another weapon set like everyone else.
So no, Ele doesn’t have “everything” Pretty much EVERY ele build sacrifices something.
Zerk – Toughness, Health, Survivability, Sustain
Bunker – Damage
Condi – Damage, SustainUnlike everyone else, An ele build has advantages and disadvantages. We can’t go zerker and still have good defense unlike most classes. We can’t go bunker and still do good damage unlike most others.
- Vapor blade is range.
- Even Warrior Longbow can’t even kill from range. Unless enemies is at low hp. Even then, Ele Vapor blade can do the same.
- Pre-nerfed D/D probably did the same amount of damage or slightly more and still wreck things up as the Kings of PvP.
• Vapor Blade is like one of the worst auto attacks to be used against a moving enemy that’s why you won’t see DD eles use it as much.
• Warrior long bow auto attack is just as bad as vapor blade in terms of damage but is a lot more reliable to hit your enemies.
• PvP DD Ele was always either Full Glass or Full Bunker and it was the Bunker builds that were dominant in PvP. I don’t remember Bunker Eles “wrecking” things in PvP because they have no damage at all.

I would love it to be less as well but you did see what I posted right? I said 30 sec without a target. Also said it acts as an evade and is unblockable and undodgable except to negate damage which would always give you a 15 sec CD on it if you were using it as a gap closer unless you were out of range.
If it were completely up to me I would just revert the nerf back to what it was but it isnt.

Thief is not op, its a class that requires experience to counter, just like every other pvp environment in every game ever. Also most thieves are terribad, even in tpvp.

Thief is not op, its a class that requires experience to counter, just like every other pvp environment in every game ever. Also most thieves are terribad, even in tpvp.
The thief is brought up in this instance because they are exceedingly good at sticking to their opponent when they want to, as well as staying out of range. The counter to this is good mobility on the part of the opponent. Particularly when the opponent is as glassy or glassier than the thief.
And mesmers were mentioned as well for the same reason. They may not have great landspeed, but they’re very good at kiting in combat with their various teleports. A problem when you’re locked into a close range weapon set without a reliable gap closer. And RTL is anything but reliable against many mesmers, considering how often PU procs aegis and puts it on double CD. Not even to mention the distortion or normal dodges.
