This game needs subjobs.
While I would absolutely LOVE to make my main a Mesmermancer, the honest fact is:
This game’s balance is in too precarious a position for dualclassing to be remotely feasible.

Umm, no, no it doesn’t. The manpower investment in balancing that is atrocious. We already have enough uninformed complainers all over the forums as well. Imagine throwing in even more skills for them to misunderstand and make even more QQ threads about.

After around 3 weeks we will all know which is the absolute best class combination + skills and everybody will play the same.

It could work with some serious rebalancing effort on elites. Right now, elite skills aren’t really stronger than utility skills, in most cases they’re weaker. Usually a result of their prohibitively long CDs. It ain’t for no reason that many players would say they’d love a fourth utility slot instead. But what if…
- Make Elites much stronger by virtue of having shorter CDs (in most cases). They should be completely role- and build-defining. This would probably also need a removal of all elite-affecting traits to be balanced.
- Then, make it possible to learn other classes utility-skills in some way, and these are equipped in the Elite-slot. You give up a hugely powerful ability for the diversity and utility, so this’d be a specific thing you do for specific situations. Not something to run for power-min/max-ing.

Please. Burn Guardimesmer. Runes of Balth loaded, Dire/Rabid combo gear. Take Torment/Doom combos on weaponry, watch faces melt. For more fun, use PU or PW with it.

honestly i wouldnt go for subjobs like op suggested. i would make it so each class can choose a certain path or so. lets say mes could choose either the duelist path which will open more 1v1 traits and skills or some form of control wizard which is more aoe/cc/punishing based.
and for each class there could be 2 different paths. that could actually solve some issues with the balance issues between spvp and wvw.

I’d agree with this. It could be integrated through providing a 6th traitline that’s specific to the path you chose. Alot easier to balance than being able to dual class.
