Will the Elementalist ever be brought up to the point where it can compete damage wise with the other professions?

Or will you continue to push Support in a game model where the content seems to punish more and more any spec, build or profession that isn’t totally geared towards DPS?

I doubt this will get a response, but I’d rather not see the profession that I’ve mained since release be relegated to the same niche as in GW1, especially when every bit of lore and description on the profession indicates the Ele is supposed to deal massive damage and is supposed to be a high risk/high reward profession, not high risk/minimal reward.

Ele’s can already do a ton, if not the most, damage. We’re just squisher then any other class if we do.

I don’t really consider having three other players dedicating their builds to support just so one Ele can LH for at most 30 seconds out of every 60 a viable build, seeing as how it ignores our core profession mechanic of attunement switching and locks us out of all of our weapons.

Even with a 30 Fire/30 Air build we’re still easily outpaced in the DPS race by most of the other professions who also possess much more inherent survivability. What is it about this that people fail to grasp?

You forgot to mention that we fail in support: a warrior with banners and FGJ buffs the group much more than an ele with persisting flames and elemental attunement.

Try Zerker staff. You’d be surprised.

Oh I have. And surprisingly other professions are still way ahead on the damage curve. Now, if I could make it so that every meteor hit every target for the listed damage, then yes, we MIGHT pull even with the DPS meta. Of course that ignores the problem of Zerker Staff being so incredibly squishy that a bandit passing gas sends us into defeated state instantly.

I want the Ele to do what it says on the box. Massive damage, with defense based on player skill and reflex. Almost exactly how the Mesmer plays out to be honest. And shouldn’t a channeler of the forces of Destruction be able to output more damage than a glorified stage magician?
