At the moment, I’m running a d/d zerker elementalist 0/2/2/4/6…But I like to switch to staff sometimes if I have to go ranged or defend a tower or keep. And now that we can re-trait on the go, I’m kind of new to staff builds. Could anyone post a build after this patch for dps staff that utilizes the most damage so I could re-trait in that situation for max dps? Thanks in advance.

The core of a wvw dps staff build is 2/2/0/2/2 with Blasting Staff and the flat damage multiplicators in fire/air/water. From there, it depends on your preferences.

  • 6 in fire is nice, as it allows you to reduce the cooldowns of fire skills and either taking XI for might+fury support or XII for more personal might
  • The new XIII trait in air is also nice in wvw, because it adds damage to your mass interrupts
  • 2 in earth for auto Armor of Earth
  • 4 in water for more survivability and support
  • 4 in Arcana for Elemental Attunement (personally, the ele doesn’t feel complete without it even if you switch less on a staff build
I can’t wait until ANet releases the game promoted in the manifesto.
Until that, I’ll play GW2.

Goal is to take every +%dmg you can get. It’s kind of cheesy but it works really well if you know how to position yourself. It was insane pre patch with celestial gear (meteor shower->tornado you could kill whole zerg with 7-10k single meteor), but post patch I wouldn’t recommend celestial, its way overnerfed.

I don’t like going in Fire, I think there’s no traits really worth it. The 20% cooldown reduction on fire skill is really bad if you theorycraft a bit: you don’t need cooldown reduce on 1, 3 and 4; 2 has a very low cd and since you will switch elements a lot, you will not spam fire 2. meteor shower is why a lot of ppl take this trait, but when you think about it, cooldown reduction doesn’t give any damage to the first 4 meteor shower. 20% cd reduction means in the time it takes to do 4 meteor shower, you can do 5… But its extremely rare to do even 4 in the first place in a single teamfight.

If you want full damage you’ll probably get the most out of 6/6/0/0/2 and full or almost full zerker. Blasting staff is pretty much the only necessity in a staff build.

I use the 0/2/0/6/6 classic d/d build for both staff and d/d since I’m always alternating between d/d and staff in WvW. I tried full celestial before and the damage was far to low and defense unnecessary. I use almost full zerker gear no matter what build or set I’m running because a staff ele’s survival is mostly with positioning and cantrips, not defensive stats.
