Am I understanding Burn, correctly?
One D/X ele can maintain burning permanently with drakes breath and reapply easily it removed. The duration stacks 9 times but it’s still just one stack and the magnitude of the burning is I believe counted by the last application. I.e. Ten eles focusing on burning is as good as only one, but if only one ele focuses on burning his contribution will be nullified if the non-condi spec eles burn over his burn.

Burning scales with condition damage (and Might stacks as they give +35 power and condition damage): 328 + Condition Damage / 4 per second at lvl 80.
For the stacking, it is even worse: Burning only stacks in duration, even across players. Meaning that if one player is able to keep burning permanently up, all other burns are wasted. The stack-limit is only there to prevent unreasonalbe high durations of burning on one target (>1min), but dps-wise a 10s perma-burn is the same as a 1min perma-burn.
And no, high condition-damage-burns have no priority over low condition-damage burns.
Until that, I’ll play GW2.

Ah, so it’s not really a decent route to go =/
So each Burn attack which hits counts as a stack until that attack runs out? And all Burn stacks are invisible, but limited to 9? That sucks, but thanks =) I guess I’ll need to put more effort into playing with Fire and Earth to make the most out of the condition stats, so I’m not overly upset =)

So if a level 80 were to hit with a 1,000 Burn (I dunno if that’s unbelievably weak or over the top; I’m still new to this game), and then a lvl 3 strolled by and hit with a 20 Burn, all subsequent burns would result in 20 DPS until a different Burn source applied a Burn…Burn?
That’s kind of sucks, actually, especially since I wanted to use Burn for PVE..I guess I could still make use of it in Dungeons though, with a structured team.
Thanks for the info =)
As with all damaging conditions, the damage ticks are determined by whatever stack does the -most- damage and has time left. Burning damage doesn’t get immediately overwritten.

Except there’s a queue system where older applications are knocked off when it goes over the stack limit which makes it easy to sabotage the DPS of the stack and the sabotage stacks difficult to get rid off once they are applied.

The way condition stacks in PvE has been broken since the game’s release.
I think it’s been designed entirely around 5man content…with any more than 5 people attacking 1 thing the conditions stop making sense.
If you are talking about world bosses then condition damage is as usefull against them as critical damage. Both are really irrational.

Now now, don’t go hating on crit damage… someone has to clear the Champion Hulks and Larva that spawns too you know~

True but think how much stronger conditions are in a 1v1 situation because they balanced their damage profile around this smaller school of application than say if they had assumed a 20 man raid and condition damage potential and where they wanted content difficulty.
That they limited stacking is why it works as a primary damage type not some weak damage ad.
Alternative control methods would have been limit stacking by being much more stingy with which classes could stack what conditions and say limiting bleeding to rangers poison to thieves fire to elementalists so class scarcity could act as the limiter on multi condition stacking.
Sucks to be limited on stacking but would suck more to have classes limited to 1 condition damage or the power of conditions be such in individual application so weak they didn’t need stack limitations to control damage potential.

The older applied burning doesn’t get knocked off. When it reaches 9 stacks, it stops accepting new stacks until the first, older, stack finishes.
“However, there is a cap at 9 stacks for this condition, meaning that the duration for this condition will only be increased by the first 9 sources that apply it, and all stacks that would normally increase the duration beyond the first 9 stacks will be ignored.”

PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

I’m not hating crit dmg nor condition dmg. It would be just more logical if both worked against bosses.

I see~ so unless the stack is all filled with 9 non condi powered burns then you’d be “okay”.
