Gear wins in WVWVW not class. So gtfo.

Wrong. Coordinating wins in WvW, not gear or class. A group of upleveled L50s in greens can beat a team in exotics if they’re organized and their opponents are not.

In a 1v1 gear wins though.

Love the explination of Ele’s…

but they forgot: Highest Survivability, Best Escapes, Completely cannot be CC’d, Best Healing, Best Boons, best Mobility in game with strong damage.

What? Strong damage? If you have highest survivability, can escape CC, have good healing and boons for a long duration, you CAN’T have strong damage. That is soooooooooo wrong. That is a fallacy, sorry to say.

I know I’m not contributing much but just thought I’d add.

I truly do love my ele, and having tried other alts, I realized ele is for me. I love the class and I’m not settling when I say that.

That being said, and maybe I’m being selfish, it still bothers me how different we were “advertised” pre launch compared to the recent philosophy of the elementalist
profession. I guess in a way it makes me feel nervous about the devs’ devotion to establishing elementalists’ identity and just letting us become whatever we happen to become.

So I don’t feel unhappy, but I still want to be shown by devs that they have a more stable identity in mind for us.

I play 5v5. Any interpretations of this post should pertain to 5v5, and 5v5 only.

Every weapon set should be balanced to perform equally in every role? Stupidest thing I’ve read today. Then every weapon set would need the same amount of healing, burst damage, cast time, cooldown, range, AoE, CC, and gap-closing/escape mechanics.

but they forgot: Highest Survivability, Best Escapes, Completely cannot be CC’d, Best Healing, Best Boons, best Mobility in game with strong damage.

Highest Survivability – guardian
Best Escapes – true (cantrips)
Completely cannot be CC’d – to an extent
Best Healing – Now that quadra water-field was removed, I would favor necro since they give protection on wells and have shorter cast-time on signet of undeath. Also, meditation have the highest self-sustain due to shorter cooldowns.
Best Boons – sidepoint plasma spam is on par with earth shield. However, plasma spam would synergize with might-stacking boon-spread mes, so unless you’re doublecounting regen as a boon and heal separately then I would say ele boons are overrated
Best Mobility – clearly. Mes and necro (even thief) have self-portal, but these have gotten nerfed hard with removal of utility-swapping, so after this patch ele is a much less situational roamer than mes and necro. Thief has a higher mobility on khylo due to roof and balcony teleports but the nerfs removed their shadow signet swapping so ele takes the lead with runspeed. Of course, thieves have the best treb repair in-game after portal CD was nerfed, which makes them more effective against khylo bunker comps. Thieves also have the advantage of stealthing, so an ele’s mobility is only useful if the other team is split-pushing whereas thief’s shadow refuge is better for offensive push. In terms of mobility, I would say that the ele is best at defensive point-rotations, whereas the thief is a superior at back-capping and kiting

I feel that elementalist truly shines in sustain fights, where both teams have had time to put all of their utilities on cooldown. Elementalist simply has a much higher long-term dps and sustain than most other classes. Now that utility-swapping and amulet-swapping has hit thieves/mesmers so hard, elementalist is clearly the strongest roamer in the North American meta.

Feel free to defend your contentions. I agree that if treb is not utilized by the enemy team then thief shines with their mobility on khylo and shadow refuges, but against a guardian/thief/ele/X/X comp (NA meta), it is mandatory to take an ele if you are defending 2 nodes instead of 3. This especially becomes noticeable when defending against offensive portal-plays which require fast node-rotation.
