Cause it would be nice that if you stacked exotic toughness gear, it actually prevents you from just getting two shotted, with one hit already being 14k.. which it didn’t prevent for me.

Alternatively, since we’re much squishier than warriors, how about you give us a 20k crit skill too? Should roughly make up for it.

There’s a fix. Dodge 100 blades and they go down fairly easily.

If you can read this then it is proof that ArenaNet’s moderators just, kind and fair.

i know its painful but eles have only a few HP. not getting hit is their best defense.
In spvp it feels like im getting slaughtered but im not. my score is above average often and sometimes on top.

Im just saying it feels really bad i know. but you are likely doing about the same as anyone else. that warrior may not get 2 shotted but he dies a lot too.

I run full exotics. I had vit/tough on every piece but 3 (my ammy/ring/necklace are beryl rather than invaders. and my pants, gloves, and boots are pow/prec/crit)

We owned 2 orbs. Putting me to a rather nice (or so I thought) 20k or so hp.
I was then hit for 10K by a bladetrail. Which is undodgeable unless you see it coming at you, which is rather hard when surrounded by about 20 allies.

Now, you might say that the warrior who did this to me must have been full glass cannon. Which is probably true. The only issue? He would still be rocking around 18k hp. So this full glass cannon warrior who can do half my hp with 1 skill (that’s ranged and not very visible at all) has a mere 2k less hp than me. While my server owned 2 of the 3 orbs.

That’s pretty much the definition of imbalanced. Had I not immediately ran away, and had I not been surrounded by teammates I probably would have died without even seeing the warrior who was going to kill me.

Stun break, dodge. I have zero trouble with warriors, actually it is the single easiest class to take down for me. I’m not bragging because certian thief and mesmer (and condition necro) builds still can give me trouble; so I’m not some super awesome sPvPer, but I don’t think I’ve ever lost a 1on1 match against a warrior and its been over a 100 fights easy.

Knock them down, keep them down, have vigor, dodge. Must have stub/immobilize breakers. Then proceed to stomp.

This game is a bit backwards because Warrior’s are the class that relies on you getting hit with their big burst like mage classes typically do, while the Ele is the one who has to juggle dodging, cc’s, stun breaks, and doesn’t have the same burst. Isn’t the melee normally the one in action combat games that has to dodge, use CC, stun breaks, etc. while the magic classes have the “burst the enemy from afar before you die” thing? Except they kept the idea that the Warrior has high HP and armor while the Mage class (us) has low HP and armor. Not saying Warrior’s can’t be dodged and dealt with and Ele’s don’t have various things we can do, but you have to admit, it is a bit wonky.

I have a harder time with that Axe/Mace + Hammer build. Lots of a CC and they still crit 5k eviscerates, and are significantly more tanky than the glass cannon HB build since they actually stack some toughness.

100B Warriors are a joke. You can Cleansing Fire + Dodge, or use Shocking Aura to completely counter their 100B since it’s usable while stunned, or Lightning Flash the CC which also gets you away from 100B. Dodge to the front or back of the Warrior or you still get hit by a few strikes of 100B. You can also just dodge the Bull’s and save yourself a stun break and continue rocking his face.

Lesson on how to dodge a few elementalist attacks (Mainly S/D and D/D)

  1. Strafe to the left or right
  2. There isn’t one

This will dodge:
Dagger / Dagger

  • Magnetic Grasp (imob and pull)
  • Fire Grab (fires number 5 and most damaging skill if foe is burning)
  • Lightning Touch (it has huge frontal effect, but misses if you are slightly to the side. Air, applies weakness)
  • Ride The Lightning (if you are side stepping and an ele casts this there is a chance they will be self stunned for 3 seconds, or will get stunned for 1 sec where the game thought you were going to be but weren’t. Will usually defiantly stun them for 3 sec if you move forward and back repetitively, or stop moving the moment you see them turn into a ball of lightning)
  • Churning Earth (but its an obvious one)

Scepter / X

  • Dust Devil (Earth forward aoe blind)
  • Dragons Tooth (fire high damage)

Yes dodge more. Problem is that you can’t really dodge enough if enemy zerg really wanna kill you and they really wanna kill you because ele looks like walking loot bag.

Yea but I think every class has that problem. At least this game let’s us dodge out of those skills, and dodge at any time. I’ve played other games, that were fully action combat no tab targeting at all, where you were locked in animations and had to really decide when to cast what and when to dodge. If you didn’t make a smart choice you risked getting hit. It was certainly fun combat but allowed for less mistakes – here at least we can move and cast at the same time (OMG!) for most attacks and dodge out of any attack we want. Definitely makes things easier so if you mess up and don’t think ahead, you can at least react at the last second.

Your playing a light armor caster. Of course a melee is going to mow you down if your not paying attention. I am not saying there is not some inbalance issues (Heartseeker?), but typically every game is going to have what is considered a “FoTM” or “OP” class. Over the life of the game, who that is will always shift. What makes a player better is learning how to counter these abilities with their preffered class. Sometimes, there is nothing you can do. There is no shame in being put down by a Theif, they have every tool to do so in a single target to target scenerio. On the other hand, classes change and 6 months from now that same Theif might be complaining about Elementalists being stupid OP.

The best thing a player can do is learn to stick with their team and learn combat animations. The nastiest attacks in game are often telegrpahed by animation, which with enough practice, players can become twitch sensitive and either avoid or CC these attacks like 2nd nature.

As a full out condition / toughness build I still get 2 – 4 shotted by Thieves. I have almost 20k life, and they just backstab 7-10k, Cloak and Dagger is another 4 – 10k, followed by, oh wait, another backstab! Downed, then i just wait to die. I was checking the combat logs and I this is what I see…
You hit SoAndSo for 157 damage.
You were hit by SoAndSo for 870 damage
You were hit by SoAndSo for 1,157 damage
You were hit by SoAndSo for 7,852 damage
You were hit by SoAndSo for 1,120 damage
You were hit by SoAndSo for 925 damage
You hit SoAndSo for 380 damage.

And then I thought to myself, wow, wish I attacked that fast…

Let us not forget Mesmers, they are a freaking joke. Elementalist need love. End of Story. Till then I think I am done trying. I waited so long for this game and was so excited to be able to play Elementalist, but it is honestly the worst class out there. Even in low levels you can tell this. After working from 1 – 80 on my ele, I recently made 1 of each other class just to try it. In first 20 levels I probably been downed 1 or 2 times, and maybe died once, only because I got crazy and tried taking level 20 something monsters at Level 11. But still almost won. Big difference in survivability, even when you spec for it on an Ele. PATHETIC. And don’t tell me to L2P because I know the class and have tried almost every build. The point is, we still drop like flies specced for Defense, and the other classes can spec cannon and still out live us.

I think your missing the point. Theif is stupid right now. That’s common knowledge. Join any mini game and all you see are Theives and Mesmers. A Theif is a killy 1v1 class, so if your not workign with your group and are alone a Theif has every chance and ability to kill you as a Elementalist. Your job, is to use your 20 abilities to survive him and kite him back to your team. Sounds pretty crappy? Well, the only way to deal with the DPS a Theif can put out is to out dps him and make him run or outright kill them. The only way that will happen quickly is if your group FF the threat. In a situation like that, the fact an Elementalist can buff, heal, condition, and DPS the Theif in the group aspect makes us OP to them who have low AoE DPS and will only be able to focus one guy.

Do they need to look at some problems with Theives? Sure, but right now there’s nothing you can do about it so work on your A game….

Dont get me wrong, 1 v 1 I can kill most thieves… Only the good ones who dont spam heartseeker, or death blossom thing can get me. After Heartseeker and PW nerf, its backstab / assassins signet thieves that 1 – 4 shot me. I mean when they use signet + backstab for about 15k dmg in 1 hit, thats crazy. Mesmers out condition damage me, and they dont even spec for it, that I do not understand. I have 1469 condition damage and 19 – 20k health with 2100 armor.

Too bad you can’t dodge steal. L2P isn’t gonna help you too much there… except for mist form anyway, then they’re pretty glassy if you react fast enough.
