As an ele main, I played all kinds of builds in PvP. I mostly enjoy glassy builds with sustain and ability to survive just a bit of pressure, but my favourite builds are S/D fresh air (not tempest), marauder staff for massive aoe damage and marauder d/d (fire, air and arcane for crazy burst damage). But since HoT, 2 out of 3 of those builds are dead (guess which ones), because of the fact that all other classes received massive boosts to their damage through elite specializations. Tempest is probably the most boring way to play ele, its OP, unfun and just cancer to ele IMO. Way too easy to play and unkillable. The glassy side of it is just crap compared to its bunker counterpart and provides less fun to me as the old S/D fresh air marauder ele would, since your only real source of damage is air overload (scepter is also by far the worst ele weapon, but the range is the only reason I use it). Not only is the air overload your only source of damage, but it is also extremely boring, as you just press 1 button and then wait for 4 seconds, no exciting play there. In fact, the only reason I accept them on my team is to counter just as stupid and easy to play condi revenants, because diamond skin ele is probably the only class able to withstand its condi pressure. I always wanted to play a burst ele, but ever since the specializations introduction, that side is kinda dead. Anyone have any tips to being successful power ele in PvP? Should I just forget about running ele in PvP and play something like mesmer?

Yea, I hate them to death, believe it or not. Then again, it is just as cancerous as other elite specs right now ^^ I say that because it is so easy to play, I didn’t like the op d/d pre nerf either, but at least you could kill the noob players, now, you have trouble killing this, at least in my experience. I usually don’t have that much of a problem, but it takes ages to down one and most of my allies don’t know how to counter play them so they usually die.

This is the answer as to why you see Tempests as unkillable. This is one of the rare scenarios where the “L2P before you complain” is applicable or in your case, teach them how to play.

Yea, I’ll try from now on. But still, this is a thread about what should I do about playing marauder ele in PvP, not a thread about arguing over bunker Tempest there are enough of them already. Anyone have any real tips on what should I do?

In all honesty, I’ve kind of started to accept the reality that tempest is an elite spec tailored to all the people who have asked for an easier to play/attunement camp playstyle version of ele. Over the course of the years, that’s probably been the biggest recurring theme on this forum. Many people tried ele, couldn’t accomodate to the attunement dance and gave up on it.

These are the people tempest was designed for, and that’s honestly fine.

Or it would be… If not using it was still a viable option. But it’s not. So yeah, I’d say branch out in to other classes. It’s what I’ve always done when I didn’t like the feel of ele in a metagame, but it’s something I’ll probably be doing a LOT more, the way things are looking.

Even if S/F fresh air tempest was the greatest thing ever, waiting in air for 5 seconds, to then push 1 button for a 4s channel gets old really, really fast. Compared to old-school fresh air, it’s just laughable.

Wish I could give you a different answer, but that’s how I see it. The upside, lots of new and shiny stuff to try!
