Okay in beta I played a necro and decided to try WvW, one thing I loved doing and this is really true for any game style like WvW

I play defensive, guarding keeps towers etc.
with necromancer I tended to use staff and try to create pockets of annoyance while looking down on the battlefield(would be in heaven if my pets could be controlled rts style)
But I haven’t really been playing WvW with my necro all that much(or my engie they have been relegated to duo grouping and soloing hah)

But I really like the idea of being a tower defensive character for lack of a better term, what are some ways to do that with wizard.

and sadly I know everyone thinks they suck but I really like teh summonable weapons, do you think summoning weapons for my allies on the ground will help(flaming greatsword in a warriors hand might be helpful?)

Staff elementalist is a strong choice for tower defense. I’m not sure about the value of summoned weapons in that role, but none of our elites are that great, so you might as well try out the fiery greatsword.

flaming greatsword in a warriors hand might be helpful?

Not that much considering they have their own GS with same mobility and an AoE autoatack which i belive hits much harder considering much higher attack rate.

Frostbow #4 hits pretty hard if you drop it on a group. The range isnt great but its long enough to defend the doors of most keeps. Skill #5 also provides you with a nice ranged long stun. Long cast time but it has its uses. Can’t recommend the other conjures, some have neat skills like shield #4 and #5 but they just are not that useful in real situations imo.
