So I’m looking to make a elementalist character because I love doing ranger attacks, I heard they are getting nerfed though in WvW so this is what I’m asking.

What kind of damage do they do, are they good?
Will this nerf ruin the Elementalist?

Also do elementalist last long, or do they die easy?

They die like a fly if you don’t spec into survivability, which means you will be lowering your dps.

They’re the best.

I play a glass cannon staff ele. I die faster then any other class in open field. But if your in a group or just defending/assaulting a tower is where you will really shine. Busting out huge dps 3-4k average fire balls. 3k on lava front. And up to 7k with meteor shower. Not to mention the other attunements. Really fun during a siege.

Sorry I’m still kinda of new. What is a glass cannon ele?

I’m thinking of making a mesmer though..

Every class has good and bad builds.

S/D bunker eles are one of the strongest builds right now, with D/D not too far behind them.

S/D burst spec’s DPS is very high, but to get there you give up essentially all of your survival and your burst is still only 3rd or 4th behind thief, mesmer and maybe engi. D/D burst is high, but significantly behind S/D and relies on much longer cooldowns.

Staff (the ranged option) can’t effectively bunker anymore. Staff burst is moderate (roughly 1/4 of S/D) but the sustain is somewhat decent (not good, but decent). Staff DPS generally only shines in large AoE fights when you don’t care about hitting a specific target and just want to knock HP off of a blob.

A glass cannon is geared and traited for power precision and crit damage with no defensive gears.
