Asura Elementalist :D
Tip- Reroll thief
Whats wrong with ele and why re-roll theif?
Elementalists are hard to master, most consider them broken. They don’t do a ton of burst for how squishy they are. Thiefs on the other hand do a crap load of burst for their squishyness.
Ignore the negativity. There’s a perception among some that Elementalists are a bit under-powered, but only you can decide whether you like the class and are having fun with it.
Figure out which weapon set you like and focus on one until you’ve mastered it. Learn how to switch attunements fluidly and combo abilities in your various attunements. I like scepter/dagger for solo for lots of might stacks, but lots of people like staff or dagger/dagger. You can pick up cheap masterwork equipment on the trading post every 5-10 levels to keep your gear up to date. Cheap sigils of bloodlust are also a huge help for more power.
For your first trait points I’d recommend 10 points in fire to start as the extra power will really help with your damage. If you are struggling your next 10 points can go into water or earth to help your defense, or if you are not having issues you can put 10 points in air for more damage. At level 40 when the second tier of traits unlocks you can try more complex trait combos. Personally I would stay away from arcana until higher levels as the stat boosts in the other trees will help you a lot more early on.
Have fun.
Okay thanks for the comments
PvE wise, leveling Elementalist has been a much smoother ride than leveling my thief has been. Elementalists have alot of ways to get permaswiftness, and tbh the faster you can get around in a game like this, the faster you will level. I also noticed it being much easier to kill multiple mobs with my ele compared to my thief. Eles also have some of the best group support available for dungeons if that’s your kind of thing.
Level up with scepter/dagger or dagger/dagger (both are good, mostly it’s a preference thing). Get swiftness (I use quick glyphs+inscription with the glyph heal but there are other ways).
PvP is completely different though, and there I wouldn’t hesitate to say roll thief over ele for pvp, but the OP did not mention PvP, and Ele does just fine in PvE.
Sacaen -lvl 80 Warrior
Remember, Zerg mob events + AOE damage = faster leveling.

Ring of Fire is exceptionally good at tagging mobs in events. As is Arcane Wave when it is up. Obviously everything in Staff as well, but it’s not necessary.
Sacaen -lvl 80 Warrior
I use burning speed then RoF
I still don’t understand why people believe Ele’s are so underpowered. For once the mage class isn’t over OP and people go nuts over it. They are a little bugged yes but so are other classes. It for chain and stack right you’ll be just fine. Let’s not forget there is a dodge in this game too don’t just stand and try and smack things….dodge spells for a reason! They are great team/party players with pretty nifty heals. Just play around with different spells and find what works best for you. Try and unlock all the spells for all the sets and you’ll have a good time.

Why…would you come into a class forum just to tell someone to re-roll a different class?
Lvl 50+ | Norther Shiverpeaks | Cook/Artif
The skill ceiling is higher for this class than for the others. It will take time to master it.
Keybind the attunement swaps 1st
Get all your weapon skills unlocked -that in itself takes a while for ele’s
1st ten pts to fire trait 2nd 10 in earth or water, as previously stated
i go for the 2nd ten in water to get the speed increase
play some spvp with the class to get a feel for it. once u get good with the class in spvp, PVE will become much easier
scepter dagger is most common and is great for PVE, if you get good with staff it can work well too, great for CC followed by AOE dps
get used to constantly switching attunements. dont just stay in fire all the time.
our survivability is very low so get used to kiting and you never want to be standing still taking melee damage. use your ranged dps and cc, and keep yourself healed up
its a very fun class that when played right can turn the tide in SPVP, and straight up owns with aoe dps in PVE

Because….I have an 80 elementalist?
I have an 80 Elementalist and an 80 Thief…
Sure, thief does some great burst damage, but they truly are a glass cannon.
My elementalist can tank better than most melee classes using staff. I’ve duo’d the majority of champion events in Cursed Shores / Malchor’s Leap with an 80 Warrior just rolling with 80 exotic healing gear (Cleric’s Exalted & Karma Gear mixed).
Overall, I have more fun with my elementalist because she seems unstoppable. I love farming with her because I am never afraid of dying, and the only annoying thing is I have no stealth to escape worst-case-scenarios. Other than that, it’s a great class.
Thief was my first 80, and I do enjoy thief gameplay typically, I just feel I’m forced to play a ranged thief which is annoying to me. I’d rather play elementalist if I’m going ranged.
Just my 2c.
My primary is a thief and I am mainly doing WvW now that I am fully geared. I didn’t go the glass cannon build and traited for vit/percision/toughness. I am no glass cannon as I will go in, kill and finish someone, then easily evade 3 – 5 people. I run D/D S/P the a bow when I am up on a wall for extended periods.
I also have a lvl 75 ele as well. The key is not to play them the same. I am adjusting to the different play syle but to call a class a glass cannon is not a very good generalization.
I did a lot of Pve leveling with Scepter/Focus. The focus gives a ton of protection against melee and ranged attacks, has great conditions and crowd control, and a real nice combo field-finisher. With dagger in the off-hand, that is more of a glass cannon approach. You get some real nice dps there but will have to do more dancing to avoid the mobs dps. Dancing can get kind of old after while and the Focus gives you alot of defense and durability.
