Need some help on deciding wheter to be an Asura or a Sylvari elementalist. Post pictures of yours to help me decide please. I mainly go by looks so I’m not too bothered about the Elite Skills.

If it’s just looks, is it about the character or armor? I would start by creating a placeholder character and then previewing different character appearances via total makeover kit on both a sylvari and asura. Go into wardrobe and preview what armor might look better. You can do all this before really wasting time leveling your ele :p

I will say though – most armor released from the gem store tend to look better on sylvari (female-wise that is.) Asuran armor tends to look a lot alike and is the same for both male and female most of the time, but it does just go down to your own taste.

I vote asura. Everything is better on them

Asura make for the best 1v1 condition ele and super hard to pick out in a GvG or zerg vs zerg BUT sylvari has a better elite for zerg vs zerg then Asura though if your aim if for elite human is the best way to go. Every races but say the char has a benefit for the Ele class as far as i know Charrzooka maybe better then FGS i am not sure though.

All my characters are Sylvari and Asura so I get where this question is coming from. They’re very cool.

Sylvari can look incredible with all their colour and glow options, if you’re good with colours or at least have the patience to try lots of variations until you hit something nice.

Asura can be total cutesy-pie (mine are) or vicious little rat people. And their animations are adorably comical.

One important thing to consider that not everyone might know is Sylvari skin colour is used in their racial armour. And it’s not always a direct translation. Eg. you can make a Sylvari with white looking skin but it’s technically a pale grey and what you get in your racial armours is a darker grey. That can look bad. I have a whitey and make that work with the tier 1 armour and blue dyes. But it’s really difficult otherwise for that character and Sylvari racial armours.

Most of my Sylvari have green or brown skin. That’s much easier to colour match. We’re accustomed to seeing lots of different coloured flowers with brown and green so just about any combination thereof looks good to us.

I have some with less natural looking skin colours that look very cool (also with racial armours) but they took longer for me to get right.

I used to be an Asura but ultimately the over the top animations did it in for me. I liked the look of it a lot in their racial T3 but the animations were too much. Everything is a giant act for an Asura. While the animations were neat at first, after about a year of constantly bobbing about and overdoing everything finally got me to reroll into a human.

As far as I know Asuras only have the confusion utility and radiation field. Sylvaris are better suited for a condition ele than Asuras because of the racial elites. They have Take Root and Summon Sylvan Hound.

Take Root is good for 1vX as you are immune for 3 seconds when it’s activated and it spawns multiple seed turrets that bleed any enemy around you.

The Sylvan Hound is immune to conditions and also poisons/bleeds your target.

Sylvaris also have utilities that could help a condition ele, but are rarely used like Grasping Vines and Seed Turret. Humans can be good condi eles too with their racial elite. I don’t know about their utilities though.

Big one for the human in Z v Z is it’s elite Reaper of Grenth where as you pass through enemy teams you are Poisoning/Chilling opponents around you (up to 10 a tick, which is a lot for an AOE). Also good source of Poison which Ele’s lack naturally.

The real irony here is the OP said they didn’t care about racial elites and everyone launches into a discussion on racial elites

I don’t really care for the dialog of Sylvari. It’s not bad, just rather plain.

Asura dialog, on the other hand, wins hands down. Love hearing their intellectual witticisms during combat. And I made my Asuras cute in their own weird way.

In my opinion: Sylvari has better light armor

Thanks for the help guys it was much appreciated In the end I went with Asura but made a Sylvari necromancer to play later.
