This is just an idea I had about combining Attunement and Weapon Swap:

Elementalists can have 2 weapon sets, like all other professions, at first, without implementing a complex UI for it, Weapon Set 1 could use Fire/Water and Weapon Set 2 could use Air/Earth.

That way, an Elementalist can swap to another weapon (usually for Range reasons) without making the prof totally overpowered with 8 skillbars. This will keep all current builds the same, there will be absolutely no change, but open up a lot of new builds.

Ideally, a special UI could be used to allow players to set which attunement goes to which Weapon Set but that would require more advanced programming/tweaking.

Would this be overpowered? Would this be imbalanced? Any thoughts?

Arena Net would have so much trouble balancing this, it would be almost no different than the Cross Profession ability from GW1.

I would be really happy if they gave us slots for a second weapon, even though we could only make the change when out of combat. It’s kinda of a pain to always have to press H and change weapons, sometimes on the run.

I agree on this but disagree with other users wanting to switch during combat.

Switching out of combat is needed, yes. But switching IN combat with the above limitation I mentioned, having only 4 skillbars, not 8 skillbars would be really imbalanced?

You can cross weapon skill sets so yes. Getting best from both worlds with no drawbacks is imba for me.

These threads always come up again every other week or so. But incombat switching isn’t gonna happen…ever.

The reason for that is that Anet designed GW2 with specific restrictions on skill combinations, to avoid having too many potential combos to balances like the did in GW 1.

Wheter the suggestee can imagine potential abuses or not, is really besides the point. It goes against the design philosophy of the game, and hence it will not happen.

As for the out of combat swapping, Anet has already stated they’d like to implement it some day, but as part of a larger trait/gear swapping functionality. There’s no ETA on it yet though.

If you can read this then it is proof that ArenaNet’s moderators just, kind and fair.

For what it’s worth I think the idea is interesting. To alter your original idea but build upon it…. I’d love to see some option where you could only attune to two elements as a tradeoff for being able to swap weapons.

I’m sure it’d be impossible to balance but the idea is interesting.
