Hello fellow elementalists!
first time I open a topic, sorry in advance if the subject has already been discussed, couldn’t find anything at least for the current pvp meta. So, like almost everyone, I play an auramancer in PVP with cleric runes. I main an ele for more than a year now and I play only staff, fell in love with it at first sight :P.

I see that most people prefer d/f over staff for the job. May I ask the reasons? I tried d/f in PVE just to get the hang of it and I switched to water to get some healing and I was like WTF do I press now? Where are the water fields ZOMG aaaaaand waypoint

I understand that earth 5 is amazing in focus, but can someone please find some time to explain to the noob guy in details why d/f is better than staff in PVP?

with d/f, when you start taking fire, you swap to earth, not water. Earth 4 is just as amazing as earth 5. Focus is more about not taking damage in the first place.

Anyway, I’m no expert, but whenever I die it’s to heavy focus fire or burst (I’ve been using staff lately). If I had been using focus instead I could have just used earth 4 and/or 5 and been ok.

I am using focus since i started. I swaped away from staff and never got warm with dagger.
Earth 4 on focus is so amazing i won´t play without it ^^. While stomp/rezz with invul is great i would be OK if its changed to something much more offensive like dust storm on a low cooldown. But never touch my magnetic wave XD…..
Air focus is quite good and i am OK with fire but would like more damage in the firewall. Just water is not great.

Focus is indeed the best weapon for Ele PvP right now. Staff requires more skill to play, and the cast is a bit slow/clunky for the most part.

Gray out the HP for future condition damage
Already quit PvP. Just log in here and there to troll.

so focus 4 is better for the condition cleanse I guess, because the shield can be achieved with staff earth 3 also. Actually, from what I get, focus is preferable mostly for the two earth skills (which are amazing ofc). I’ll try and give it one more shot, I’ll just have to remember to not switch to water :P.

The Water #5 field on staff has a very long and clunky cast time. Basically, during the time you cast that, a Thief/Rev can already down you. And then, to be able to take advantage of that field, you need to precast Earth #2. In fast PvP combat, Focus is indeed superior.

Safe stomp Rez/projectile hate is really strong.
Also hit has more auras which is strong w/powerful aura

Classic play for me with scepter focus:
Stat Air. Set up swirling winds to protect team from missiles and instant bolt/blind.
Overload air. (If it seems to fit knockdown).
Swap fire and dodge back to a bit distance. Usually set dragon tooth but most important strike a nice phönix (Gorgeous when a on point teamfight is running ^^).
Of course use aura shouts for the team inbetween.
Now it depends. If fight goes well and there is a good option i cleave a downed wir fire overload or burn someone that tries to step back. Otherwise swap earth now and savestomp or rezz, heal with wash the pain away, blow projectiles into a field (Rock barrier). So whatever fits best. I realy prefer scepter over dagger. I have the option to go close or keep a bit distance.

I am getting so owned with d/f… because ofc I don’t have enough playtime. Still can’t stay alive when focused. With staff I cast earth 2, switch to water, cast 3 and 5. So I am already getting healed by 3 and usually 5 get blasted so even more healing.
And seriously fire 5 OWNS, if you have the time to cast it. It gets all over the capping point, they want it, they have to get inside. I bruise them enough for the teammates to get them down.
But focus earth 5 is probably the best skill there is. Certain stomp. Keep trying to master it, I guess

Staff is fine. With staff you gain more healing potential/control, but lose the invuln, so you won’t have a safe stomp or res. Make sure you combo earth #2 with water #4 for AOE frost aura, or with your water heal fields.
