Ive been running a power might stacking D/D build in PVE so far and enjoying it with 30 fire, 15 water and 20 arcane. Everything was going fine until I reached Orr.

I now die several times an hour. My character just feels so squishy compared to its performance in other maps. The main issue im having is whenever I activate a mobility skill like RTL (which is a big part of my playstyle) I aggro about 3 other mobs and it becomes an endless cycle of trying desperately to survive.

Is my only option to go bunker staff to prevent my deaths? I would really prefer to not sacrifice my damage so badly. My ele already kills things slowly as it is. :P

Note: I have just reached 80 so my gear is pretty bad.

Any advice is really appreciated, specifically on where I can get easily accessible gear that doesn’t require hours of dungeon farming.

Thanks to anyone who can help

1. Mob density is pretty high, as are respawn rates. Don’t purposely aggro more than 1 mob at once, until you’re more comfortable with the place; you’ll have plenty of multi-mob fights even so.

2. I face-tank in scepter/dagger.

3. If it’s an ordinary fight, I try to win with my weapon skills, heal, and Arcane Wave. Glyphs of Storms, Lesser Elementals, and Elementals are held back for tougher fights, or when my weapon cooldowns are bad. That said — with lousy gear, I’d probably want an elemental out at all times.

4. You can get exotics for 42,000 karma per, which is a lot, when the event chains leading to the gate of Arah or the Temple of Melandru (among others) conclude successfully. Easier to just farm gold and buy on the Trading Post, which is more affordable than it might sound based on your pre-Orr experience. Only stuff I haven’t bought for gold is armor, because I want P/T/V, which can’t be gotten on the TP. (Ditto Monk runes.)

Outside of getting full exotics, I feel like the most helpful thing is learning the aggro range of each enemy so you can avoid over pulling.

if you are open to changing your build, i would recommend daphoenix’s d/d guide. i also played d/d power ele till i got to orr, then i realized that glass cannon was no longer a practical build for me. i switched to daphoenix’s build and i havent noticed much difference in damage but i am staying alive through crazy kitten and having a ball. resetting traits only costs like 3 silver and change, it may be worth trying.

Get better gear. When I entered Orr, I had the same problem. Then I got full exotic set and without changing anything else about my char, everything just became so extremely easy.

The thing that most people forget is that with Bountiful Power (25pt water), you easily make up the loss of the 200odd power you lose from not putting points in fire simply by having 10%+ perma damage boost in combat due to boon uptime, which more than makes up for it, in addition to lending you a huge amount of survivability.

It´s not that hard, mobs can be facetanked in mostly green berserkers set even with staff. D/D is more efficient in killing stuff from what i´ve heard.

Fix for not aggroing tons of mobs is to learn howto kiten in smaller area. If you use rtl and fire charge thingy towards a mobs you won´t aggro anything extra, learn to use other mobility skills to avoid damage.
For example using burning retreat in staff doesn´t aggro anything more than what i want if i´m not playing stupidly. therefore i can safely say that backraft doesn´t eiher.
Rtl, magnetic grasp and the fire chrage thingy will just take you to targetted mob if you so choose, so they´re not a problem.

Gear>build as far as Orr goes. I never remember having major issues but the mobs hit much lighter once your full exotic. The other thing is in Orr being mobile is half the challenge.

Here’s what you need.

Super fast attunement switching, endurance regeneration, healing and condition removal. You’ll be able to handle a veteran in addition to 2 or 3 mobs at the same time.

Go get a PVP Karma armor set of Rares, it’s much less expensive than the Exotic PVE karma gear, has Power Vitality Toughness. Go buy some level 80 rare jewelry off the AH and you’re set.. probably for less than 2 gold.

EDIT: You don’t need to buy Exotics yet, you can get the whole set of rares for about the cost of one exotic piece.

Please tell me how you’re keeping up 5 boons, I’d love to know

Might from Sigil of battle/Fire swaps
Vigor from Renewing Stamina/Cantrips
Regen from Cantrips/Water swaps
Fury from Aura’s/Attunement swaps
Swiftness from Aura’s/Air swaps

Throw in Protection from Armor of Earth/Earth swaps and Stability from Armour of Earth (though I’m not sure if Stability applies to Bountiful Power at the minute) and you’re easily rolling 5 boons almost permanently.

Sigil of Battle is amazing. 3 stacks of might every 10 seconds everytime you switch attunment in combat. With Evasive Arcana you can dodge roll into your fire fields to create Area Might combo and grant another 3 stacks. I can easily keep up 10 stacks of might at all times. That’s 350 power and 350 condition damage.

I thought Orr was way more difficult than I actually found it is. Being a glass cannon -and loving it- the only true problem is overpulling a major zerg, but with a minimum of attention you should be able to avoid that.
No Exotic gear here, but 12 to 15 stacks of Might, protection, swiftness and regen almost permanents… no troubles so far
