Best crafts for a elementalist?
Crafting only really matters if you want Ascended weapons and armor as it is the only way to acquire those. Assuming you are new to the game, Ascended gear is the highest level gear (same stats as Legendary IIRC). If that’s really the way you want to go, pick up tailoring and artificing unless you know you really really want to do dual daggers then go weaponsmithing.

Lostwingman is correct, however there is an additional benefit to crafting. You are able to gain 10 levels from the experience that crafting a single profession to max level.
7 levels per crafting profession to 400 to be exact

If you don’t see you getting the end game gear for a long time (It can be costly, especially for a Light Armor) and its just not a appealing to you, then you have other options.
Cooking is always practical. A lot of food cost less if you craft them yourselves and its one of cheapest profession to get to 400.
Artificer is also really cheap to get to 400. But also at about level 100 (not sure if i’m wrong on the exact level), you have some really useful crafting option. You can combine essence of luck to high tier. This won’t give you more essence of luck, it will only make it easier to consume them. If you accumulate 1000 Essence of Luck of ’’10’’ you can combine them with artificer to get 50 Essence of Luck of ’’200’’. They will give you the same amount of Luck, but its a lot easier to click 50 times and not 1 000 times on these essence. The other little nice thing with Artificer is the crafting of Infusion. If you do fractal you will receive some +1 Infusion. These infusion can be combine with artificer to get higher tier of infusion. But that’s only useful if you want to get as high as possible in Fractal. If you don’t care about fractal or if you just want to do some low level, then you better sell those infusion and not try to craft them (you won’t have any use for them).
If none of these thing appeal to you, but you want a legendary. Then see which one you would like and see what crafting profession this legendary need. They all need 2 professions.

And max level is 500, honestly, it’s less time and resource consuming to level using Queensdale champ trains or the current LA events.

One character can level all the crafting professions btw. Switching back and forth just costs some coin. So if you level one to 400 or 500 and then another and another etc you can have them all, then choose which ones you will use to build your ascended and stuff. Or, just use the 5? characters the game gives you to divide up the crafting among them and level all the professions up.
All the crafting professions have something to offer all classes of characters. But, tailoring is by far one to have since you will be able to make your own bigger bags and eventually ascended armor.
Crafting is character bound right? As in, if you have 500 craft in something, its not shared over all your characters on your account, or is it?

Not shared, but you can just move items between characters with the bank so it’s not like it matters.
Can I just take a moment to appreciate the fact that NONE of you actually answered the question? Hooooooooly.
The answer is depend what and when you want it.
Crafting is the only way to get max stats for you characte in a reasonable time lapse.
If you want to play wvw, high level fractals or raids (high requirements environment), you will need to craft things (if you dont want to wait long time to get the equipment by drop)
If you want to play OpenWorld, low level fractals ( low requirement environment) or pvp you dont need to craft anything.
