I managed to get my tailoring and artificer to 400. Still just 71 but thinking ahead to craft my first exotic lev 80 set.

What do you all think is the way to go?

I was thinking between rampager and traveler.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

Travelers is good enough rare, dont bother with exotic.
Others depend on what you want to do with it. I use full berserker in wvw with invaders set for small engagements.

Pretty much what Bond said, if you looking to farm go traveler, however my warrior farms a bit better than my Ele; something to think about if your going to roll another class in the future.

I have full carrion, the bleeds from earth and burns from fire do a good amount a damage. Pretty good for Wv3 if you go a high crit/condition build with a bunch of conditions on crits also.

In Pvp people cleanse bleeds. And each condition they cleanse they do it to fullest: 15 stacks of bleed? All gone in a sec.
In pve when you are full exotic normal mobs die rather fast. Condition builds might come on top on boss fights.
Ive played with condition builds before, but once i tried berserker gear i just salvaged carrion. Got several globs from it too

Best for what? First of all, what build do you want?
Power:
Damage – berserker/valkyrie
Defense – knight
Support – cleric
Condition:
Damage – Carrion
Defense – Rabid
Support – Shaman

Well I was thinking 3 sets

Pvp
PvE
Dungeon

TRavelers for pve/dungeons. Berserkers for wvw zergfest and inquest (or same set from dungeon tokens) for when you dont want to die to a thief sneezing your way.

All depends on your spec but generally a few sets:

PvE farming: MF set (green or yellow suffice)

PvE solo: Knight + Valkyrie (fire air spec) or Cleric + Carrion (water arcane spec)

PvE dungeons: same as above

WvW: Full Berzerker

My spec is 30 Fire, 20 in both Water and Arcane in a Staff Support build. I wanted to provide various types of support and have enough Vit/Toughness to survive but not be totally useless in the damage department.

So aside from those traits I’m going with Carrion for the extra vitality. I can get enough Toughness with Runes, Accessories, etc. so the basic gear I’m going for is Carrion. The only other crafted set with Vitality on it is Valkyrie which has Crit damage instead of the Condition damage which is useless for me because my Crit is so poor. But Staff has a lot of Burning and Bleeding so the extra damage from those conditions is a lot better than some totally useless Crit damage for me.

The +healing from what I’ve read is pretty useless although for you stacking 10 in Air, the Valkyrie might be better since you probably can benefit from the crit damage. I don’t know though what other stats you’re going for and what runes, sigils, accessories, gems, etc. you’ll have. So the overall picture is worth looking at – if you don’t want/need the extra Vitality a set other than Valkyrie might be better.

I don’t know about the other sets though but so far the Carrion has been pretty easy and cheap to craft, too. I crafted a full yellow set for myself the same day I hit 80 and am already 2/5 on the Exotic set after a few days of casual play (been doing other things and still managed to craft 2 pieces).
