Best tagging weapon for elementalist?
Staff.
Air 4 gives you speed and it’s auto bounces 3×.
Fire has an on target AoE auto with lava font and meteor shower for added benefit.
Water is water, gives regen, cleansing if you’re traited.
Never really use Earth.

While you can get a fair amount of tagging any weapon set, I’d say that staff definitely is the easiest, safest, and most helpful. You can lay down fire fields for mass might, water fields for heals, and as lost says, the air can provide opportunity for area swift. Long-term it can get a bit boring hitting fire 2…but it works. Stay w/ the zerg.
I’ve been taking ice bow and glyph storms for more aoe goodness.
I get the goods.
Staff. Period.
-Get Reduced fire recharge trait.
-Stay in fire as long as possible.
-Spam ranged AoE
-Profit
I personally think in the labyrinth MH dagger is best for tagging. Burning speeds and lightning whips. But please teach me very wrong DO IT!! -Close quartercombat. -Staff downtime. -Next to no risk. I personally don’t farm at all, just my theoretical thinking.

use icebow skill 4 you will tag EVERYTHING in its aoe radius
I’m simply explaining why I’m right.
I prefer bunker d/d and spamming my lightning auto attack like a maniac.
Bad Elementalist
In my opinion, the best non-conjure one is dagger MH Lightning whip (+snap mobility), but the safest/allround good choice is definitely staff. Dagger because you just don’t need targets to hit everything where you move with Whip, and it hits much faster than Staff which has sort of slow-moving projectiles, other than fire #2/#3. If there is loads of melee damage calamity I sit back with Staff for sure.
Either way Ele is very good off here, it’s got no tag-frustration like I sometimes have on my Mesmer.
Regarding wvw… d/x for smaller battles, and staff for larger battles. Staff is better when you will likely die running into a zerg with dagger, and especially on chokepoints where an enemy zerg is all bunched up, but it’s so slow to cast that you may miss some outliers in small battles where people die really fast (or not do enough for kill credit).
For stonemist battles, staff air is the only viable option, since lag will prevent you from using non-auto attack skills, and staff air is the only one that hits more than one person from range.
For PvE mob farming, d/x is always best at tagging.
