I was testing warhorn in PvP today and it wasn’t that kittenome ppl try to sell it. Sure it was crap compared to dagger or focus offhand, but they are already very strong, I’ll leave balancing to other posts already on this subforum. But I noticed one extremely annoying thing. The warhorn is stupidly clunky, as facing the target just a little to the side will put your skill on a full CD, but won’t produce any effect at all. If there is one weapon in the game that shouldn’t need you facing your target completely, its warhorn. It doesn’t matter if you are upside down IRL, if you blow into a horn, it makes sound (duh), so I have no idea why is this, when so many other skills don’t require this. Warhorn may have bad stats or effects, but what really kills it for me, is it’s clunkiness. The only reason I main elementalist is the fluent and natural feeling to its skills and warhorn is exactly opposite of this ): Anyone have any specific opinion on this? Should they make you able to cast skills even if you aren’t facing your target?

well

There are some suggestions that i would change from the warhorn
-Lower the cooldown of woldfire, since its the unique fire field we have when using warhorn.
-Buff the speed of tidal wave, the delay to receive the healing and also knockback the enemy its too much.
-Buff water globe healing coeficient, im not sure of this because this skill gives a moving water field, so is nice to combine this with a blast finisher for more healing.
-increase cyclone speed, sometimes i use it to speed myself, but i have to stop a little to get swiftness.
-That electric orb (dont remember the name) make it immobile and area target or increase the speed of the orb.

And yes, there are some skills that are used while facing the oponent, maybe wildfire should be a fire field around you rather than a rectangular field.

Only in death, you find true freedom

I’d say the biggest problems are lack of condition cleansing (please cure 1 condi per pulse of water globe) and generally high cast times.

Biggest problem is it excels at nothing. Virtually the only thing of note is the might/fury share, but why would you even need that when you have revenants and warriors farting out perma might/fury.

Defensively, the focus is better. Offensively, the dagger is better.

The warhorn also has no mobility whatsoever. You have no gap closers.

I’m also surprised sand squall doesn’t give reflection to all your allies as well.

Then there’s Wildfire, which does miserable damage and less burning than fire wall on focus.

More importantly, using warhorn involves using mainhand dagger, which is a far inferior weapon to staff in most content.

You basically only use dagger for spvp and duels. In group PvE and WvW, staff is supreme.

It lacks ways to deal with conditions and with burst. So while it does offer nice supper it offers basically NO personal defense which we need on our skills.

Basically it lacks Focus Earth 4+5 and to a lesser degree Focus Air 4.

Some of the skills would be better with area targetting.

Warhorn was made to give a terribly useless off-hand to go with scepter in the pile of things not to be used mostly.

I’d say they did a smashing job.

They have no idea how to dev. for eles, don’t expect a fix…ever.

At least they didn’t have terrible execution on a weapon type that would be more appealing…that would have been a shame. Perhaps we can get a competent dev. for future specializations, but honestly, I have no faith that will happen either. We’ll probably just end up with a weapon that is even more “blah”

Maybe add some defensive boons on Imbued Melodies for a start?

Warhorn Skills grant boons based on Attunement:
Fire – Retaliation on self and allies 2s. Removes Chill.
Water – Vigor on self and allies 3s. Removes Burn.
Air – Weakness on foes 4s. Removes Cripple and Slow.
Earth – Resistance 2s.

Lol ppl, I make a post about how warhorn needs you to face your target with skills directly or they just fail (Lightning orb, Wildfire, Cyclone, also Tidal surge, since its hitbox is just weird??) and I get post about how it needs buffs. I doesn’t matter for me, as long as it is this clunky and buffs to it are not going to make me want to use the weapon.

Basically people are pointing out that Warhorn’s main issue is not the hitbox but rather how weak defensively against condition and kiting.

I don’t know why, but when my asura tempest is using it, it sounds like a fat frog is stuck in the horn.

I noticed this too. It’s pretty silly*. Just stand in town and use air …5? (ground targeted one) off to the side or behind, and it’ll say no line of sight. Then try with any other ground targeted skill in existence, on ele or not.

*by “silly” I of course mean kittenING STUPID

Yeah, only useful warhorn skills are …. sand squall for earth, Heat sync on fire (if built for it) and lightning orb (when it procs ) …well and the heals (the delay is high tho) … I guess it’s not that bad, just need some polishing

Wh made for support if you are only using it for your self its going to be less effect then say using it for 5 ppl. That the thing about ele/tempest most of its effects are aoe and they are made to be used on more then one target.

As for clunkiness you need to think of WH more like staff with cast time (not as long mind you) but its far less of a spam dodge roll wepon like you see from dagger or foces.
