Blasting Staff should affect Trident as well.
It would be nice yes, though technically many of our talents DO affect trident (i.e. any talents that affects the different attunements will apply to trident such as shorter CD in that attunement, increased damage in that attunement, passive damage increase in all atunements, etc.).
The exceptions would be the weapon specific ones (blasting staff, vigorous scepter, windborne dagger) and Evasive Arcana for whatever reason.
I like the idea as well, the nature of these two weapons really matches (just compare Range, AoE, Combo Fields) and i would actually like to see this. Like blasting staff we are not talking about damage increases, just increases of the combo fields diameters. That would really make spells like http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Murky_Water useful and be a real improvement to the Ele underwater abilities.

Yeah, the nature of those two weapons is basically the same, fire #2, air #5 for example are practically the same spells, and lot of others are similar.

Blasting staff, windbourne dagger, and vigorous scepter should all have been one trait since we can’t weapon swap. Its just filler so they don’t have to give us good traits, thats why 99% of people who take arcana use the same 3 traits in all three slots.
Also, anyone notice that we don’t have a focus trait? Its like they forgot…
Sounds good to me. Trident has plenty of AoE that could be boosted by Blasting Staff, and the two weapons are similar in general (to the point where Tridents reuse many Staff skins).
The only problem I see is that it makes underwater combat favor Staff elementalists over others, though arguably that’s a problem with every profession and every underwater weapon, and will continue to be until underwater gets its own trait template (you should have a separate underwater trait tree like you have separate utilities / weapons underwater).
As for the lack of Focus trait… yah, I noticed it before. I always assumed it was just because Elementalist only has traits for mainhand (offhand dagger only gets it because it happens to share a mainhand). I wouldn’t oppose a Focus trait of some sort , but I’m not sure where it would go, since Arcana is the only place it fits and Arcana is already pretty full of traits. If it did get one, though, I’d favor a boost in duration for all Focus skills (longer effective time on Air 4, Earth 4 / 5, Fire 4 / 5, longer daze on Water 5, longer chill on Water 4, longer knockdown on Air 5).

Everything you said is so true, but the bolder part blew my mind. I never ever ever realize we did not have a trait for focus, then again I never used focus, but still.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
