[Build] Core ele is back!
In airtraitline correct magnetic aura to shocking aura.
I often use cleansing fire to apply those 3 burning stacks. Sometimes they will take attention to cleanse, so you have better opportunity to land attacks or breathe.
Conjure Lightning Hammer, nope, better against invisible enemies is flame axe and earth shield. Flame axe have ring and blast, evade backward, leap that apply dmg/condi pressure and can grant you precious fire aura via that combo, and the most important when playing scepter – flame axe aa is better of them all – ima don’t saying its better in numbers, but you probably get what I mean. Therefore you can bring shield, block, dash with daze for lighting rod, aoe pull for lightning rod and 3s of invulnerability. Those both are rather more useful that lightning hammer, imo.
Eh, tornado if tornado would have 5 skills maybe yes, 4th would be tornado wall – for 2s destroy projectiles, cd 5s. 5th skill could be tornado vacuum – aoe pull inside tornado. Then we could think more about it.
Think about elite glyph of elementals for its press to use skill which is launch.
Probably many of use tried in the past to take everything possible to trigger lightning rod as much as possible. I tried charzooka in wvw.
PS. Don’t make catchy titles.
Sounds awesome. Ill give it a try in a few hours!
I think tempest would be better than arcane, simply for air overload spam.

That’s true in general, but that alone is kinda the only thing tempest would offer to this build… some extra damage at the end that is slowly applied (less spike and highly avoidable) at expenses of having longer cooldowns on element shifting … yet I agree it adds damage overall but some players that doesn’t have HoT doesn’t have this option.
Tried it a couple games. Too much downtime and simply not enough survivability. I’m sure with some practice, I could feel better with it, but simply playing a power revenant is more effective with loads more sustain. I really hate that this is the case, and I’ll try a few other builds out over time, but it’s not looking good unfortunately.

Yeah! Axe is better to deal with invisible foes! but while hammer somewhat helps with them, it’s not the goal of the build. Why hammer instead of shield? both can be used as you said, tried both tested them for hours and they all have pros and cons… picked the hammer because it’sa a good starter for the cc chain mostly. Later found more advantages specially in stronghold where you can hold the advance of npcs with static field and AA them with better criticals.
Note: This build stands 0 chance in WvW, it was tested only on PvP … low tiers also, altho, there’s a similar build with earth shield that was stated to reach legendary while soloQ, … you should know what I am talking about since you are a frequent forum reader as me :P

Did it after or before the patch?

Your build is odd at the very least. Also, scepter doesn’t offer the insta spike you claim at all. You will be lucky if running full offensive with marauder or berseker with scholar and phoenix hit for 5k.
Traits:
Ferocious Winds gives 7% of ferocity, but it will only have a considerate impact on skills with high coefficient a.k.a burning speed, churning earth, meteor shower, dragon’s tooth and phoenix. Unless your intention is to camp fire attunement, you are pretty much wasting a trait.
Lighting Rod:
It has a better synergy with staff due to its AoE particularity. Usually, for scepter, you want to take advantage of blinding flash and lighting strike to increase the dps and momentary defense, in order to do it so, you take fresh air.
Arcana: whoever doesn’t have HoT will need to take arcana trait, however Tempest is a better choice between the two if viable. Specially for a build using scepter, the overloads will be a huge benefit.
Utilities:
Heal: as much as I like ether renewal, it have a huge cast, making the ele vulnerable to daze/stuns, which if happens you are kittened up due to the low amount of heal per pulse. In the middle of this CC wars that is happening, it is risky to use that heal, unless you are completely alone with no imminent threat or save obsidian flash for the heals.
Lighting Hammer is just bad, great for PvE, but really bad for PvP. You are better off using glyph of elemental power for a stunbreak, signet of earth or glyph of storms for a dps increase. (example: mid fight, everyone busy, use glyph of storms, air overload then phoenix and dragon’s tooth, finishing off with lighting strike combo)
Earth Armor: really with the amount of reapers around, will just be a waste, the boon will be insta corrupted into fear. I’d take Lighting Flash instead.
Tornado: really only works if is a 2v1 in your favor. Conjure Fiery Greatsword is specter friendly since gives mobility and damage.

Yup! would be a good variant, also considered it tho… shouts remove 1 condi with soldier, and 2 with auras trough regen. … that would make me switch elite and it’s a great improvement, but at the cost of having to use shouts on my tooltips, so unless I remove the conjured weapon and die because of cooldowns (as stated by someone above) the only two remaining choices would be Cleansing fire (removes 4 conditions while traited) or “Armor of earth” which is important vs certain matchups … so I put having a more supportive role into perspective considering also the fact that healing power with build is lame and opting mostly for cantrips to deal with condi bombs.
Still arcane is replaceable … picked it because no better option and to give core players and alternative to try on! (evassive arcana is pretty good now that vigor can be stacked for a 100% stamina regen)
Abort, abort, abort!
After day two, certain classes that weren’t there appeared, with them around the build is quite lame, altho succeeds on spikes, cannot sustain enough damage and due to the lack of healing, dies …. build is good againist a single opponent 1v1, … when outnumbered… dies way to fast… -_- …I’ll just forget about this one and stick to the bunker one, that proved to hold even in 1v3 and againist both necros and thieves.
You want to try a glassy build that dishes out a lot of damage?
Maybe try somethign like this.
Its hybrid. It has low stability and is squishy, but has a bit survival tricks to live longer then the target. It can mitigate condi and power burst. It can´t bunker very long but should live long enough to deal deadly damage.
Did not try it out in this setup, but i used arcane a lot before hot and fire + condi now. I might try it today.
Yeah, would be nice to find that well balanced dps viable build that was intended by the designers with the amulets change… all I can think about now is go back to D/D and twitch it… thing is dealing with condis now fills our tooltip skills slots. Maybe give thenew DS a chance while equiping healing signet to try to be up the life tresshold by spamming? …complicated…. maybe will opt to give the bunker build I found so far a way to deal more damage… fiery sword? D/F instead of staff? need to keep testing … tell me how your build goes please!
New DS with signet equals dead against condi build… necromancer eats it alive. Tried that
Please do note that Tempest Defense only works on Dazes, Knockdowns and Stuns.
Tornado is neither of them and does not benefit from Tempest Defense, nor does the Lightning Rod following it.
Additionnally, the Hammer 2’s leap Finisher inside a Air field will not benefit from the Daze’s damage increase for the attack itself, but it will do for the Lightning Rod following.
Consider Earth Shield instead of the garbage hammer. And Tempest + Conjures have a good synergy. Keep going with your build; leave Tornado behind and it will be viable (but not meta). Lightning Hammer is a big gamble and you cannot move while casting the Static Field (also centered on you).
Sigil of Impact is not as good as you think. Don’t break your head and go for Blood Sigil.

Yeah, it’s super disappointing that Tempest Defense doesn’t work on disabled foes like Lightning Rod does.
So in the past I decided to bury this build and never mention it again … … but this weekend was bored of playing the bunker ele and wanted to give this another chance … this time leting the vanilla go and taking the advices provided in this thread…
so, no more cantrips… no more lightning hammer… no more tornado :P and more important… no more Paladin Amulet (self discovery) …. if I am going to use auras, might as well benefit from regen given by 1K healing power.
The build now looks like this:
With Mender’s Amulet
1050 Power
1050 Healing Power
560 Precision
560 Vitality
Usage is common knowledge by now as in terms of timing shouts for cleanses and when to use which….
most important mention is that now… with the air overload, some squishy thieves die in a cc chain as it follows, … Use comet as an opener, switch to air, cast blinding flash, cast gale, lighning strike (as you approach) to unload a lightning strike while enemy is down… this alone takes down most squishy classes depending on build… at least hurts enemy by a lot while being practically untouched. Ingeneral this tweak survives way better on teamfights providing nice spikes and blinds for downed oponents helping the cleaves. Also gives important support on teamfights by the means of auras and regen while aoe condi cleansing. I gues smore testing is in order and if someone want’s to help me with this, would be much appreciated.
So this isn’t core ele and the build is different, but i drew the idea from this forum and it’s pretty fun. I am Air, Water and Tempest with scepter/focus. I use the shout heal, and the glyph elite.
7-9 are signet of air, earth shield and arcane shield. So you can see how i like my defense on those abilities.
The dps is great due to tempest, the elemental helps out especially if it’s a lightning conjure since it stuns enemies.
As for the specs I tweaked a few things, but all in all, thanks for the recommendation! I’m having a lot more fun with this build than when I was using dagger/focus
