But I wanna play Staff Ele (PvP Question)
metabattle.com has all current builds in the metagame for all game modes.

Don’t let them get you down. Staff Ele rocks in PVP (for me at least, can’t seem to handle d/f)!
you just have to adopt… in PVE you are doing massive damage, in PVP you won’t be able to kill a baby raccoon playing as an auramancer with cleric amulet (current meta).
If you go full zerk in PVP as I did at first, boy you are in for a surprise
staff is fine pvp
PvP staff is great if your team is coordinated. It’s essentially a toolbox for offensive support and takes an active brain to play. Unsteady Ground, Static Field, and Gust are nice for rez stomp protection and keeping people off point. Shockwave for immobilize is always useful. Firestorm and Lava Font are good on maps with high ground. Instant cast Eart Aura saves lives. It’s a pity Healing Rain has such a long cast and CD, else it would be a great DH trap / reaper wells counter. Just remember to avoid camping the crummy auto-attack and you’ll do fine

It will not matter unless you plan on doing tournaments. Though, there is an arcane variation that could be viable with staff; sadly, Elemental Enchantment is bugged with Overload Recharges and the cooldown reduction is not affected when swapping out of the element.
I played a glass staff Ele soloq to Legendary this season, with like 90% win rate (mostly win streak) It’s actually not that bad, and pretty fun.
The key is don’t get hit.
I had zero toughness, so avoiding getting hit is a must. Fortunately, if you show up to a fight late, they usually don’t focus you, and just think of you as a healbot. Then they are surprised when you pulled a Meteor/Air Overload.
Of course, playing a glass staff in Legendary takes a lot more focus than a normal D/F heal bot. Positioning is extremely important. Denying rez with Air #3 or earth swap.
Tips vs classes:
1) Mesmer: Dodge into their clones. Mostly don’t run around so you don’t get killed with torment. Meteor/Air can clean them up well. Don’t be afraid to run with Fire #4. You’re not a bunker.
2) Rev: you must always be able to reflect their sword #2. If you can’t, you need more practice to play at Legendary. After that, it’s just a matter of keeping weakness up and kill them.
3) Thief: Earth #4 and #5 is extremely important. After they used their stun break is your time to trap them with an Air #5 and Overload (don’t cast #5 too early, wait for your Overload)
4) Ranger: super easy. You should win 100% of the duel when you know their rotation and time reflect.
5) Necro: avoid at all cost and only +1 them.
6) Warrior: avoid melee range and wait for them to waste cooldown. It’s okay to let them have the point, and rain death from outside. Use Air #3 when they close gap, and use Water #4 on cooldown.
7) Healbot Ele: you will need another teammate to kill this.
8) Engi: avoid their AoE at all cost, unless you have Earth Overload. Also, save your Overload as a stunbreak. Kite them with Fire #4. Usually I also don’t try to pick a fight with Engi 1v1.
9) Guard: super easy. As soon as you see you get a Daze, just Dodge and you avoid all of their damage. The rest is just time reflect and kill them with AoE. You should win 100% of time.
In general, glass staff is amazing at 1. So don’t try to hold point and 1v1. Also, if the enemy stick to you for the whole match, don’t try to outrun them. Just Dodge/CC a bit to wait for Air Overload to be off cooldown, then ReboundArcane Shield and kamikaze them xD. You will be surprised at how many thieves I killed this way.
P.S: I use the trait for stability during Overload.
P.S.S: I also haven’t played in a week or two after I got Legendary and the wings.
Already quit PvP. Just log in here and there to troll.
Just to clarify, I’m not saying Staff Ele is fine. You have to indeed work a lot harder to win with a non Healbot staff Ele. When I played Necro/Rev for the win, it was so much easier. Glass Rev can deal 20k+ damage in 2s. And Necro can win all the class 1v1 (with Thief you need to time weakness well).

I really think tempest dps staff ele is underrated. It can really lay the hurt if played right.

Maybe Sunshine could share that glass ele build?

something close to this.
My best advice is to stay away from 1v1’s and focus on the team fight. Stay at max distance whenever possible.
Typically I will do fire 2 and follow with fire 5 then switch to air and use air 5 for the lightning rod procs. I will follow with air overload while they are stunned.

Hello all! I’m a new player who just purchased HoT. I do mostly PvE and will be interested in raiding in the future. kitten, I chose a Staff Ele because I heard they’re great in PvE. Unfortunately, I was informed that when it comes to any kind of PvP, they are a bit behind. That’s understandable and acceptable, as all classes have highs and lows. My question is this: what position would I be the most viable in, and can anybody link me any builds? I used a few websites but they’re a little outdated and I’d like something a little more current.
Thanks in advance
It’s great if you build for bunkers and auras and fulfill a role focused solely on holding points and supporting allies. If you get good, I argue it’s better in solo Q, because you can carry a team.
Offensively, it has a number of issues, mostly, because the abilities are AoE focused and highly telegraphed.
This works in your favor in conquest, because the nature of holding points forces combat to be constrained to a very small area and your AoEs serve to provide pressure to force people off points and thus, result in a loss of point control.
However, fighting off point in open areas, you are going to have a lot more trouble, because their range of motion is unconstricted and a lot of these AoEs can be avoided just be walking out of them.
When I played, I played solely staff in sPvP and did great. My reason for not playing has to do with the fact that I am have gotten tired of being a bunker (which Tempest strongly pushes us towards) and everybody else’s elite specialization is over tuned.
(Metabattle is crap by the way. Most of the ratings on those builds are like 2-3 people voting)
