Guild Wars 2

Hi!
So to the point : i returned to play after a half year, and want to start totally fresh from start, but i cant decide on class yet. I think my friend will join the game to, propably as a Ranger or Thief (more likely thief).

Basically i was wondering ranger myself, but then i realized it would have only been for the looks (bows are amazing).
So I narrowed it to Mesmer (that comes last) but the illusions are not my play style.
Guardian and Elementalist.

Basically the reson i cant decide is a bit complicated one.
Guardians have an amazing armor selection (heavy armors are the n1 in looks to me) . Not to mention the 2h swords and shields, that are also brilliant compared to most caster weapons. (exspecially legendary ones).
I might also add, that i played tank classes up till now . Because, they can face opponents head on, unlike most classes, that need kiting.

The down side is , that i like casters to. Seems fun, spells and skills seem fun, and i do also like to support from long range. Trough the combat of ele seems to be odd for me…to many “jump on the enemy” skills, like ball lightning and dagger skills. Not to mention the strange looking armors.

The other thing that seems to get to me every time is : Lore.
I am a indepth rpg player. After like 1 years of D&D and forgotten realms and thousands of fantasy books…its not a wonder that i play gw2 and not some other game. The atmosphere and the graphic design not to mention the amazing artwork, music. Pure fantasy. But i kind of find the classes bacground a bit lacking. The sylvari areas are good, but can barely meet anything that is abaut the class you play. As i can see, Guardians and Warriors have the main “face” of the Gw2. And comparing to other fantasy, “mages” are totalyl underdesigned in lore, when they should reaaaaaly have a lot of bacground and detail. So i am not sure whitch class could make me feel part of the world.

As for game system and combat, i guess Guardians feels a bit more boring to me. (general pve) Also melee feels a bit strange and hard in organized pve (more players) Not to mention Guardians totally lack range options.
Unlike ele, but then again,,ele lacks utility, no pass blocking line, projectile reflection and so on.

Anyone got some suggestions? On race also maybe?

Guardian.

My Elementalist weathered all the nerfs over the past ten months, but the recent patch was the final straw.

Guardian, on the other hand, I didn’t care for much at launch, but I’ve been playing one as my second most used character for the past few months and really enjoy it.

The pendulum may swing back the other way for Elementalist, but I’d definitely say Guardian right now. It can take a little bit while leveling to start to open up builds that make the profession more fun, so stick with it and experiment with the different weapons until you find what suits you best.

I personally enjoy Greatsword and Sword/Focus for PvE, the skills with mobility are fun and it’s a capable combo. I did enjoy Scepter more recently than at launch, so you can have some ranged combat with the profession, but usually just when needed. You really need to experiment though.

That’s my advice anyway.

Try both and see which one you like better.

From what you said I would say Guardian is most likely the better choice since you like the look and gameplay.

Race really doesn’t matter, just pick the one you think fits your kind of Guardian/Ele the most. For Guardians I like Norn and Human, for Eles Sylvari and Asura. But that’s just my opinion.

From a purely mechanical standpoint, the Guarian is much stronger than the Elementalist in PvE at the moment. Better damage, better utility, better survivability.

From pure aesthetics, heavy armor seems to have a lot more love and thought put into its design.

Given that, Eles are still a ton of fun.

Guardian. Everyone who recommends ele at this point is a masochist.

Priorities first: Race – Asura.

Per you post it comes down to if you want range or melee. Guardian Melee or Ele Range.

As for the lore, there is a good bit, just not right in your face at first.

Check out the great lodge in Hoelbrak, there’s a Jotun standing in the middle usually who will tell you about the origins of magic. A lot of the lore is kinda there in the background, because this is a sequel, it’s a bit redundant to go through the same things as GW1.

This guy has a ton of videos detailing the GW world lore.

But yeah, probably guardian. Elementalists are really fun, but you’ll get carpal-tunnel-syndrome trying to be half as effective as a guardian.

Melee is weird at first (as in, “why did I just die?” weird). Get used to it though. Main thing is watch for red circles, and the “dust up” animation that most PvE mobs get a couple seconds before they are gonna oneshot you. Good luck seeing it through the guardian’s burns, but hey, it’s there somewhere. ;p

First of all, thank you for all the awnsers. Second, i guess you ppl see into my soul, i think i wanted guardian anyway. I can alt an ele later on anyway, if i feel so, but Ga seems to be a good choice for start for now.
Feels good, and looks good, alredy araund 20 ish, cant wait the new content that has been annaunced today. Seems like coming back was a good choice afterall.
