Comet problem
Personally, i haven’t picked up my focus since they stopped Swirling Winds from blocking trebs.
Focus is intended to be the defensive weapon option, but i get more healing and utility out of an offhand dagger.
They should give Eles a smoke field on the focus so you could get a little bit of stealth action going. At least that would give the focus a niche that the other weapons can’t do (besides trident…but..well…yeah..).
Focus is actually decent for defense, but it almost solely derives this from earth attunement (as well as some from air attunement).
Comet isn’t that bad either although it could probably be good to get rid of the initial ‘comet goes up’ animation so it’s faster and not as blatantly choreographed. In and of itself, Focus isn’t bad but it could definitely use some sprucing (namely fire and water attunement).
I’ve run alot with focus and dagger and if it weren’t for my focus being a beermug I would’ve put it in my bank and never touched it again. Its just not worth it anymore. The dagger gets a free extra dodge on air-5 a get away spell on air 4, two blast finishers on earth with decent burst damage for fire and earth and water has a heal and aura that chills.
While the focus has crappy skills on the fire atunement amazing earth atunement skills, and average-less than average water and air skills.
The real problem is that the off-hand dagger combines well with both a main hand scepter and a main hand dagger while the focus is more of a stand alone weapon that has some utility.
I wouldn’t dismiss Focus Air skills. Specifically in PvE and specifically in Orr when you have to defend NPCs, being able to nullify projectiles is something you can’t get anywhere on any other weapon.
I think it should be a smart projectile and same with dragon tooth. This idea comes from the currently well balanced mesmer shatters. IMO it can still be dodged when timed, so…
