Creating an Elementalist... Should i?

I think given that you realize Elementalist’s limitations but are still curious about playing the class… go for it! The Elementalist is really fun! Always a challenge, and pretty good all around at everything, though not the absolute best at anything.
I love playing as an ele – such a fun class. It was frustrating at first but after purchasing a Logitech MMO mouse and the G13, it made life soooo much better. Why? Because you will be constantly changing the four attunements and dropping all five skills in each one, not to mention the higher level skills. Your fingers will be busy, but you’ll love it!
If you want to be useful at spvp immediately, then probably not (it can be done but its difficult)
Otherwise yes you should make one, especially in pve/wvw.

Elementalists are the King and Queen of the hardcore PvE realm. If we look at all the dungeons speedclear records, the absolute minimum requirement of a successful team setup is 2 elementalists and sometimes 3! In fractal 49/50, the most desirable team setup always has an elementalist (others are mesmer, guard, thief and war). It is much harder to play an ele in a competitive pvp setting, but most competent ele I came across can easily own a 3-5 man team in duo or by solo.
My opinion is: Try it!

Thanks for the fast and complete awnsers…
My problem presists in this topics:
Can i play my elementalist effectively in pve and in wvw when im bored ? (not changing attu all the time. was thinking on fire staff build 1-2 spam.)
Is it worth making elementalist your all arround character? Over creating Guardian or Mesmer or sticking with my Ranger? (That is because i dont like to have all classes, i like to have one and improve this one.)
Thanks again.
Also Iris Ng. … Really? xD How is that possible when everyone complains elementalists is not even playable in pvp? Thanks
Can you do anything PvP wise successfully with 1 and 2 spam? No.. This isn’t the class for you if you don’t want to work for your kills.

If you just want to 1-2 spam with a fire staff ele, then I don’t think it’s going to work for you. Ele is all about switching attunements. Don’t get me wrong – I put 6 trait points into fire because it’s what works best for my play style, but in order to be effective I have to use all the attunements. That’s why I love my hardware setupn (MMO mouse and G-13). It allows me to switch without having to think about it. I can drop all 20 skills in about 10 seconds, but it’s more complicated than that because you want to hit your go-to skills just as soon as they finish their cooldown. I can’t imagine another class that is as fun or as flexible as an ele.
I dont think you guys understood what ive just asked ^^ …
I didnt said i would do PvP with firestaff nor that id always be with firestaff…offcourse not…
What i asked was… If it happens that im kinda bored someday and i just wanna do low LVL fracts or dungs … It will work just do to a damage build firestaff skill spam ? .. Just asked that ;p .. Thanks .. Hope u guys get my point now…
For WvW, it depends on how you are used to play. I have been a staff ele for a certain well known cough Korean cough blitzkrieg guild for a year and it was the laziest playstyle ever known to any competitive play ground. Basically all I did is to spam CC field, stack might by fire field, spam Fire ball and punish any approaching globs with Meteor Shower, then drop Healing Rain on demand.
If you favor roaming then your build would be similar to that of the ‘attunement dancing’ playstyle in PvP. For example, this gentleman here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Nuithari-s-sPvP-D-D-build/first#content has showcased a very powerful build.
For dungeons and fractals, you should always read Dekeyz’s guide: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Guide-DPS-Elementalist-for-PvE/page/3#post3984853

Iris gotta give a +1 on that post … thx for your help… im now more than ever considering an elementalist, will prob use the advantage that my server is atm dominating our tier wvw to get some fast grind in there…
will just do a little more research and then decide over if i stick with my ranger for another shot in the dark or just go and give elementalist the lead…
if i may ask, between ranger and elementalist people?
(my ranger usually runs with traited frost spirit + spotter, stalker and moa for might and fury, pretty normal build in pve as it is the only viable one unfortunately, what concerns me is that, i dont think that what it provides to the team does make up for the lack of damage and still broken mechanics on our best pve weapon (sword)…so it might get frustating in the meantime…
Hi fellow ranger!
My fianceƩ plays a staff ele in wvw alongside my trapper ranger. She can do amazing things so I rolled one a day ago or so. Man the ele is fun to play!
Get the champ train for example. You can go lazy and spam water#1 or fire#1 but if you feel so you can dance around the attunements and putting down might-regen-ice-vulnerability in like 5 seconds
As soon as I get to level 30 I will level my ele in EotM
I recommend the Dungeon Mentors guild in my sig. Rangers and Eles are both desired in PvE but I would say Ele is winning thanks to the crazy dmg of walled FGS. When it gets nerfed, ele will be less important.

There’s no such thing as work hard when it comes to playing a game. It only requires time to get really familiar with the whole aspect of the profession. Ele excels in all areas within this game but it will take you time to perform well in the more challenging environments such as spvp/tpvp and wvw roaming.
If I’m not mistaken, a team in the EU Tournament of Legends finals had an ele with them, so I’m pretty sure they are viable in sPvP as long as you are good at it.
I had a guardian, got bored of it, and then rolled an elementalist. Suffice to say that I deleted my lvl 80 guard and I’m having a hard time choosing a proffesion to level again, simply because eles are so much fun. Especially now after the 15th of April patch when we received a couple of buffs.
So as an advice that is viable to all of MMOs, choose a proffesion based on what you want and what you enjoy, don’t listen to elitists and theorycrafters and the like. You won’t be good at it if you don’t enjoy playing it, no matter how “OP” that profession is or not. I’m pretty sure 90% of warriors will get facerolled by a decent ele.
Also not everyone runs fast run dungeons in zerker gear, so even if FGS wall stacking gets nerfed that doesn’t mean the proffesion won’t be less important or you won’t find any dungeon groups to join.
Like I said, try the proffesion, give it some time to get used with attunement switching, evading and combos, and see if it’s right for you. It might seem squishy at first, but at lvl 80, with a decent build and gear you will hardly die anymore and facemelt groups of NPCs or players.

Hi there everyone, kinda new to the forums, this is my first post actually
So my problem is: I have a lvl80 Ranger, i have like 3 full sets of exotics on it, some ascendeds, commander status, i pretty much know how to work every viable build, and so on and so on, but u know… its ranger and im always in a doubt on either i should go on on it and do everything to improve my ranger or in the other hand just give it a long sleep time and move on to smth diferent in wich i can spend my time and actually accomplish something…
So my question is: Should i or should i not was my time levling an elementalist to lv80?
My goal is not to have the most op class all-round, if i did i would simply go Warrior…wich i dont want to… My goal is to have a class that is good at pve (wich i know elementalist are), either played hardcore (boon wise) or softcore (firestaff) wich is awesome…Also my thing is, can it actually be good in wvw, small scales and/or largescale battles? pvp can be attainable with good practice?
(my other options are: Mesmer, and maybe, Guardian.)
Hope i get some nice awnsers from u guys, and sorry for the long post.
Ele is a great class if you take the time to learn the class, if you can play it near perfect with out many mistakes then you will be a force to reckon with. (this means using your combos correctly with out creating down time between attunements.) The only downside IMO is ele doesn’t have many variation in builds.
Eles are great but hard to use, if u know how fields work and u played for a lot is a great class to do… and one of the funniest
Wrexya – Elementalist 80
….And Another 13 LV 80 Characters…..
Yes, make an ele
they are very fun if you are willing to take the time to learn them!
Personally i would have to say no don’t bother.
thank you all for the replies.. i will surely give a shot at ele now deciding if i either do a Human Female or Asuran Male…
Human ele = Avatar of Grenth
Asura ele = fun animation to watch
I have both, and love both.

Elementalist is a lot of fun. I have both a human female and an asura male and they dominate my game time. Do it.
Are you still here?
Seriously. Go on, do it!
