Yeah I just realized that you cant weapon swap with eles anyway isnt this class squishy to be roaming alone? or did you mean by group?
Thanks for the input btw
one of the downed skills is mistform so if you jump down and just attack close to the gate and the moment you’re downed you mistform back through the gate and rez etc. rinse and repeat. Not a single class out there that can do the same.
Why don’t you just swap to staff, put in the arcane trait for large staff attacks and rain Hell on them from the walls? :P

I’ve only just started doing this, and it seems to be going pretty well. I role D/D with condition damage/healing power/toughness. It’s not big on damage but it can endure anything. So far it takes a minimum 3 v 1 to beat it, even then I still win my fair share. Ive yet to lose a 1v1, even beefed up Guardians will eventually cave in. When they start to to run you’re in the clear, few players can outrun a D/D Elementalist. And really, the build speaks for itself because I am really not that good at Ele…

I think you mean to catch an ele – it doesn’t take more than a 2v1 to beat down an ele who stays in battle, but catching one can be hard work

Yep it is squishie, but with practice you can escape most fights with a win, except for scum like Thief that just stealths constantly….

You can be dragged away from the gate by Rangers, Mesmers etc or blocked by Guardians.
You can be killed in Vapor form, even Immobilised, though most players are terribad enough that they forget

Honestly I just use it the same way I use thief in WvW solo roamer/scout. Its a good role its important in a small way and reaps plenty of benefits from such large maps. Also in large scale skirmish its a decent tagger. That being said necro shortbow thief staff ele and anything ranged that can hit in a circle will tag better by having less risk associated with the tagging process.

One of the best things a D/D elementalist can do in defensive sieges is to run supply. Use that speed and ability to get through the door under fire to bring in more supply to build defensive siege or make critical repairs.
Another thing that’s fun is leading suicidal charges at enemy siege in the field. Updraft and earthquake to interrupt and scatter siege operators. Blast out some fire damage to grab more “aggro” then mist form and have your allies beat on the people focused on killing you while they are in tunnel vision mode. If/when you go down, use your #1 attack to damage enemy siege if possible.
You can drop conjured weapons to help support sometimes as well, when the situation doesn’t favor melee combat but might change at any time so you don’t want to get caught with your staff in your hand. Ice bow #4 wrecks siege, and #5 is an awesome single target CC. Lightning hammer has a really nice skill set for front line fighting also: a stun field (the only one in the game besides staff air 4, and anyone can use it), a leap finisher/gap-closer and an aoe blind.

I play my ele like a hammer that never stops pounding. During defensive siege get on the wall, pick a target in the middle of a group hop down RTL → Updraft and then just start blowing mofos up! The key is not to stray too far from the door. Once you start getting focused and cc’d to death run back in the door and rinse and repeat. The ele’s power to constantly disrupt the enemy forces and keep pushing them is unmatched by any other class. However if things are really bad I sometimes sit on the inside of the door and make those on the other side rethink standing there auto-attacking away.

Good suggestions here – I typically swap to Staff, but sometimes I don’t have time to get out of combat to swap. Running supply is definitely a bonus, considering our mobility with D/D. You can also jump on some siege if it’s available/you have blueprints.
That said, D/D is a major disruptor. If you have Arcane Abatement, you get a third AoE knockdown in Earth attunement which you can use to disrupt enemy siege activity. Note that you’ll probably want to use your auras for additional disruption and survivability. If you can coordinate with someone else, even better. The key is to cause a ruckus, damage the siege, and knock whomever is using the siege off to buy you some more time.
You can also build up might and use Churning Earth on the ‘safe’ side of the door. It may be wise to do this prior to jumping down to scare a few of the melee door heros away. Might is excessively easy to build when facing a large group now that Fire Aura provides the boon.
