I am a newly maxed Elementalist and am trying to feel my way around higher level PvE play for the class. Currently, I am liking D/D a lot more than I did at lower levels and am considering gearing up for Fractals in this manner. Is this a good idea? Any suggestions as to how to approach designing a build?

My advice is learn how to use all of the weapon sets. The meta is scepter/focus for pure dps right now, but I have found every weapon combo possible has at least one dungeon situation that I am most comfortable with.

Lupi solos on 9/9 professions

I suggest go for Aura Share trait to maximize effectiveness with D/D fractal stuff.

I switch from D/D to S/F most bosses :<

Imho..its a bad idea going D/D in fractal…

people will say L2evade….and they Always forgets base concept of this game like skills like fire 3, earth 3-3, air 4 etc that will leave you totally defenseless enough to be oneshot.

If the reaction Windows is shorter than the skill duration, and it forces you into melee, its really impossible to react.

Not to mention how nice the “aoe cap” will give priority to “invisible and indestructible targets” like the dredge cart and many Others turning your aoe in less than single target.

Finally the total lack of reflect and short stability.

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

I main a D/D elementalist and I have no problems in fractal. I’m a regular in fotm and D/D is quite good at supporting (with my aura/cantrip/attunement boons). Though you should learn to switch to appropriate long range weapon when D/D is not possible. I use staff as second weapon and sometimes S/D or S/F. It really depends on the encounter and the fractal level.

For exemple, the Elemental Source in the snowblind fractal is more easy to destroy with staff and Frost Bow (since it’s an immobile and inanimate object).

You can’t really stick to one weapon, you have to swap frequently out of combat.

I thought that staff was the meta for pure dps? With S/F being the alternative if your group is missing buffs?

D/X 30/30/0/0/10 is good for fractals. Gives you plenty of flexibility.
