D/D viable in sPVP/tPVP?
I found it okay’ish before I changed to my current spec. You’re abit of a glasscannon(depending on your utilities) but it can be pretty entertaining.
Didn’t find it particulairly strong 1v1 vs. competent players, but I guess you won’t find yourself in 1v1’s too often
After playing 6hours I have to admit thats D/D ele is in a bad state (maybe its to early)! You have to go in melee range and you get less dmg then most classes from range, not to mention you die very very fast!
d/d ele are pretty darn good roamers in spvp. I enjoy d/d alot in spvp but I will admit on clock tower map I switch it up to staff.

The dagger/dagger set is the only one able to give you dmg and survivability, the other sets literally need you to go full glass cannon to do anything worthwile.
The staff/scepter attacks are so slow that enemies don’t even need to dodge to negate them, you need to use strong CC which of course lack on the ele, with skill whose activation time is 3s+ I find it veru hard to move away from d/d, tried several builds on staff but you become an easy target with no anti-mele skills, while the scepter fire skills are uber slow to activte making them useless
I tried Dagger/Dagger, but I felt like I was just missing something, not exactly sure what. It was painful to lose Ride the Lightening/Updraft, but I felt like Dagger/Focus gave me a little more flexibility. Being able to deflect projectiles was OK, but the gap closer was really important, so I’m not sure if I’d suggest the change, but it is at least worth testing out. I think, though, I’m slowly drifting towards Scepter/Dagger.

Scepter/Dagger Has higher survivability and damage if you’re intelligent enough to use it.
Really, what survivability does X/Dagger give you?
Fire has nothing (Focus at least gives you Fire shield and a combo field). Water it gives you a heal and chill armor (better than the chill/Comet in Focus, but not really “survival” since the chill is for staying on your target but the heal/condition cleanse is definitely survival).
Earth you get a knock down and a long cast time nuke compared to Magnetic Shield and Obsidian Flesh (Focus wins out again). Air daggers gives you RTL and Updraft, which are crucial for your spike and too long a cooldown to use to spike AND escape with, compared to Focus getting a projectile screen and knock down. If you want survivability, you get a focus, not a dagger offhand.
TL;DR: Dagger is good for damage, but I would not say it is good for survivability.
As an aside: I never understood why Dagger got cleansing wave instead of Focus. I thought that, at some point, they’d swap the two to give Daggers a daze and another damage attack, while letting the Focus continue to be support oriented.
I’ve played elementalist since the first beta, and after trying every single combo of weapon sets, Dagger/dagger has replaced S/D as my favourite. It takes some getting used to, but only D/D gives you amazing mobility+consistent damage+active defense, and this is amplified if you choose the auramancer build for perma boons. D/D is also the most active weapon set, and in my opinion the most fun, provided you get good with it.
It does have a downside-you’re limited by your range, so if you can’t stick on a target, you can get kited. however, you have 3 gap closers in your weapon sets alone, and can use more in your utility if you need to.
My personal experience is that D/D > all other sets when it comes to 1 v 1, not just against another elementalist but also against other classes, and recently i only die once or twice in the entire duration of a match, because our escapes are so strong that the only way to die is to be chain CCed and condition damaged by more than 2 ppl. There aren’t really any classes that can survive that though.
I had my first few matches with a D/D setup, with 0/0/30/20/20 if i’m not mistaken. What a survivability, kitten If you can’t win a 1v1, you won’t lose it either. After using Staff mostly (and yes, it sucks sPvP), and trying S/D, I was really impressed by D/D.
Good all-round if you ask me. And definitely the most fun to play.
It might make more sense if Focus and Dagger switched their Water4 and Water5. Assuming Focus is defensively oriented and Dagger was offensive.
Ah, Zarron already mentioned it.
D/D is very viable in tournament play. For awhile I tried out S/D and it requires so much setup to land dragon’s tooth, and most classes see it coming and either block or teleport once they’re rooted with Sigil of earth, so I just gave up on S/D.
D/D has a great mix of spike damage and sustained when traited with the right utilities, its great for 1v1’s. Here are the traits I use:
10/30/0/10/20
6
6/1/10
0
5
4/5
I use Divinity because since you’re going into melee, you will need a good balance of stats, and the critical damage is very good. You don’t HAVE to use that one, because there are variations of different D/D builds you can use, but that one has great damage along with some survivability mixed in.

Why? No one ever said that just because one set is defensively oriented everything has to be defensive., and vice versa for offensive builds. Dagger needs the water 5 for their mobility, if not even 1 cc can destroy us.
I never really liked MH dagger that much, but maybe I didn’t give it much of a chance. Scepter/Dagger just gives you alot more options, imo.

Sorry..but WHORU?
I can’t post any video because they’re restricted to guild forum…but you calling noob a champion magus/wolf ..it’s really hilarious.
Listen newb…as dagger/dagger ele you can count on high mobility to increase your survivability by 10 times, got frost armour and shocking aura, on top of updraft and kd..but all this is useless, you’re using a gimmick build which has never worked against me…sad
I love my d/d ele in spvp – in fact i switched from necro to it, after trying thief, which i found boring. I’m not facerolling anyone and i die a lot. Sometimes i can take people down until they’re almost dead, then i usually die because someone else jumps my back. Sometimes i can survive 2 or 3 people long enough to escape, most of the times i die within 1 second from anyone jumping me. I’m too reckless. I don’t recognise skill use from others fast enough to counter that. I don’t dodge enough and when i do, i usually dodge into something worse or i waste my endurance so i can’t dodge anymore when i really need to. I waste valuable time because i forget where the right button is. I forget to use my elite skill. I forget that i have a stun break. I’m the typical average player. But i love pvp, and i love my d/d ele.

I know dat feel. Can get a few kills, but mostly it’s simple. The larger group wins. 1v1 unkillable. Butkittenfun to play.
I prefer D/D in sPvP than the other options except for the battle for Khylo which suits the staff. Staff 1v1 is terrible and I don’t like the scepter fire abilities for PvP. I’m never top of the rankings but I do OK.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
i’ve only played SPvP for 2 hours so far (only like lvl 6) but my KDR is hovering around 3-ish and i’m usually the player with the most points in whatever match i’m playing in.
i use dual dagger solely… but i balance things out a bit so that i’m not pure tanky (you really can’t, with the weapon set) nor am i pure burst or glass cannon-y. i still go down faster than tankier classes, but MAN is it fun and MAN is d/d elementalist mobile!
