DD Ele and Next Patch ...
Question about d/d next patch… Will switching from berzerker to celestial gear be better? Right know I’m running d/d with berzerker gear.
Define better. More damage? No. Similar damage? No. Better defense…yeah, a LOT better. And better defense than soldier’s too.
Classic D/D will still be as it was and its going to be even stronger with Burning Speed/runes/sigils boost.You will just lose the crit dmg.
D/D is losing a lot…

A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

-I’ve started using PVT and Knights again so as to prepare for the comming changes.Its not that bad..really.
-Stoped using boon duration months now.Personaly i find it overated.
Other runes will be up for using and i think you will still be able to use Boon duration runes if you need them so much.
-Yes but you can use 2 dmg on crit sigils/2 dmg on swap sigils etc.Energy/Battle…Fire/Air and a lot others.
-The only case i use FGS is PvE(which is a joke in this game) and rarely in WvW in order to escape.

3) that is less then popular OP profession using already 2H (not to mention fasthands for warriors)
4) in WWW is situationally good….having to equip an elite for escaping purposes is more of a joke than pve.

Originally, I was looking forward to this patch, but after seeing all of the nerfs to d/d ele, I don’t think I could dread it any more.
You’re not alone, mate. I was very excited initially too, with the changes to Burning Speed and Frozen Burst. But the boon duration, Celestial nerf, and indirect sigil “nerf” are disappointing.
The boon duration in particular seems like it will hurt D/D Elementalists very much, since we rely heavily on boons (and not armor/equipment) for our survivability. Celestial armor doesn’t offer significant defensive stats, and is about to offer even worse offense; the combined effect could be that D/D Elementalists become lackluster in all areas — defense, offense, AND support.

1) Warriors are getting nerfs to Healing Signet (less sustain) and on Pin Down, which is a bane on elementalists. Other than that, you can easily counter Warriors with blinds on Blinding Ashes, since Warriors suffer from low hitrate usually. PU mesmers might not exist anymore after the patch because of changes to on clone death traits and perplexity runes. Thieves will have insane damage reduction because of the crit damage changes, as they usually run with very high crit damage and precision. You can expect 38% less critical damage on a backstab.
3) Being able to run energy+battle is an huge buff to elementalists, not to say it is the only profession keeping perma vigor via traits after the patch.
4) FGS was nerfed only to people abusing it to insta kill PvE mobs. It is still a solid skill in any gamemode because of the mobility, damage output and defensive capabilities (Fiery Whirl is amazing).
I can’t believe that people are under the impression that Elementalists are getting nerfed…
I honestly don’t like the burning speed buff that is coming.
High damage, mobility, aoe, and a small fire field.
It already does a lot.
Adding dodge to a mostly offensive skill removes it’s counterplay.
I’m not saying that the skill will become too powerful, but that it will be less fun to play against, and will give too much for a single skill.

The damage isn’t even comparable to Pistol Whip which literally has everything (Stun, Damage, Evasion). I think it’s actually good for main hand dagger which already lacks survivability. Add in a few more blinds or blocks or evasive frames on a few more skills then I think it should be enough to increase the DD’s natural active defense without bumping the base HP.

I would agree with you, but mh dagger elementalists are way too frail, and what else could you do to buff their defense? Making cone of cold stronger or lightning touch more reliable would only help healing builds or against direct damage builds, while the added evasion is useful everywhere and everytime. Likewise, which skill is better indicated to gain evasion? Burning speed feels as the most natural option out of all mh dagger skills.
I really do hope there will be a rune set that gives 30% boon duration or higher, but as of now, we can only hope.

This is true but didn’t they also say there is no more 6/6 rune model in sPvP. You put on 1 rune and get all 6 effects. In pve and wvw you will still be able to mix and match. I think anyone looking for higher then 55% total boon duration will need to use the food. You could always run exotic trinkets and throw on platinum doubloons.

burning speed is not a buff to defense.
Its your main damage source and locked in fire its easy to understand why its not blurred frenzy.
Its a minor buff to offence since having a quite long animation it could be interrupted too easily…..
