I’ve recently hit 80 and gotten into some Exotic equipment. I’m looking to make builds for dungeon running or occasional WvW.

I’ve been running the standard 0/15/0/25/30 DPS S/D or D/D build, with the usual suspects – Signet of Restoration, Arcane Wave, Lightning Flash. Running full boon duration runes to maximise the potential of Bountiful Power. I don’t have Superior Sigils in my weapons yet.

Although the build has been immensely useful for levelling and teaching me rotations and attunement swapping, I feel the time has come to switch it up.

I’ve been theorycrafting a Dagger Focus Aurashare build and I wanted to know what you guys think. I’ve listed a few of my rationales for taking the traits I have taken below.

  • I wanted to have superior tankiness due to the lesser control offered by using Focus (No Updraft, no Earthquake), so I took Superior Runes of the Earth for increased toughness, Protection uptime, and for the synergy of my traits at 20% health for the 6th rune bonus of Magnetic Aura
  • Dagger Focus offers 2 Auras – Fire Shield (Fire Focus 4), Shocking Aura (Air Dagger 3). Both have 0 cast time, and Shocking Aura in particular can act as a soft counter-burst. Magnetic Leap over Firewall will also grant Fire Shield.
  • There are less significant losses to control when switching from off hand Dagger to Focus. Comet is a 2 second daze, Magnetic Wave also Cripples foes in PBAoE, *Gale*’s Knockdown replaces Updraft to a lesser degree (Although Updraft is still ridiculously good, and I will miss it)
  • The loss of Evasive Arcana’s PBAoE Burn is made up for by Dagger Mainhand’s Drake’s Breath, and Glyph of Storms. PBAoE Blind is once again, made up for by Glyph of Storms. As for the loss of Cleansing Wave and the Blast Finisher of EA’s Earth attunement Proc, Magnetic Wave makes up for it to a certain degree, as does the trait Stop Drop and Roll
  • Casting an Aura grants 6 seconds of Fury and Swiftness (20% boon duration), and 4.2 seconds of Protection. This is then coupled with the traits Elemental Attunement, Arcane Fury and Renewing Stamina to grant an additional single stack of Might, Swiftness, Protection or Regeneration to ensure I am replete with boons to maximise the Bountiful Power trait.
  • The boons also apply to nearby Allies thanks to Powerful Auras and the AOE nature of Elemental Attunement
  • Superior Sigil of Battle will ensure that I will have around 6-9 stacks of Might before Blasting my Firewall, or taking hits upon the Fire Shield. I could potentially have up to 6 boons on me all ticking down (Might, Fury, Swiftness, Vigor, Regeneration, Protection) which adds up to 12% additional damage thanks to Bountiful Power
