Disheartened, think im going to reroll.
Been there, done that =/
Now all I do with my ele is WvW and jumping puzzles, cause eles are still pretty good when we can hide in a crowd and do AOE damage and support. Solo play in the lvl 80 areas is just not fun atm.
PVE is not fun with Elementalist.
you can pull off, kill 2 mobs, 3 if they are easy…
but it takes alot of work and u cant DPS nor tank as other classes.
PVe aint fun with elementalist, especially in dungeons …. u gotta stay back and support -.-;
in another topic i have read that ele needs a buff in PVP, but is fine in PVE… this is exactly vice versa 100 people, 100 opinions
they need a buff in both? …
What’s your build and gear?
my build is 20 10 10 10 20
My gear is mainly crafted with toughness as my main stat ( to survive )
The class reminds me of playing a prot warrior back when wow was good ( vanilla, bc )
I really enjoy playing a ele, but when nearly everyone can do anything better with a LOT less effort, it kinda crushes me….
I think prot warrior might be generous. It is like playing the ret paladin in Vanilla with out the survivability.
If you want to survive, stop gearing in glass cannon. Hybrid gear/spec with toughness (knight gear at 60 lvl) and you can kill pack of 5-6 mobs with AoE and D/D (even in Orr). No need in full tank, damage will be terrible.
We all know ,that warrior have good survivability in DPS spec and can kill everything with 3 buttons. Just live with it…
P.S. Solo play in Orr is not fun for any class. Fast mobs with tons of CC.

Yeah, then you can spend an hour on each and every mob group, but you’ll never die…

What don’t you understand in words “no need in full tanks”? I killed mob packs using one AoE combo. If they are alive, roll back and use dragon’s breath. Overall damage is ~3/4 of pure damage build (may be little less). Just don’t use all items from one set, combine differents sets (valkyrie/knight+berserker for example). Knight gear is not for condition builds, it’s power/crit, what means not bad burst damage. You just need enough survivability to live while using burning speed – ring of fire – arcane wave – earthquake – churning earth.
P.S. This doesn’t mean elementalists are fine, it’s just way to play in PvE with not bad damage and survivability.

Are you something like level 60 there?….
I just can´t understand. Are we all playing even the same game?
I can just facetank 2-3 of those swords, my gear is berserkers with few vitality trinkets. 30/10/0/10/0 traits, staff as weapon.
Start in earth glyph of storms, earth5, earth 2,swap to fire, fire 2, fire 3, autoattack fire2, fire 3….they´re dead after that.
With some kiting it´s easy to take as many as you can find around you.
If it´s 2-3 and i can actualy bother to move a bit i can sit in fire and take them down.

Elementalist definitely needs work, as it is most definitely the case that we have to work harder than other classes to get the same results. But you should not be nearly dying on enemies in Orr, and it may pay off to revise your speccing a bit (gear revamping isn’t necessary, I do just fine in Explorer’s of the Pirate gear which has no defense to speak of in terms of either Vit or Tough).
I highly recommend, rather than spreading your points out as you have, to focus them into Earth and then another element of your choosing. Personally I Think Arcana works very well for both exploring and dungeoneering, but your mileage may vary. I do my general exploring in a spec like this using dual daggers.
The key idea is that Earth gives you a lot of toughness passively, and even more toughness when you shift into Earth attunement. Between it and Arcana, you get a free Armor of Earth and Arcane Shield when your health starts to drop, which helps to keep you on your feet; using your elementals elite in Earth mode takes more pressure off by giving the enemies something else to swing at that will last a while. Then there’s Glyph of Storms; when used in Earth mode it becomes Sandstorm, which spams blind on enemies, so you can create a safe zone to do your work in. Signet of Restoration gives you HP back for spamming abilities, and this combos very nicely with Water mode — cleansing wave to get conditions off of you and burst up a bit more health, Frost Aura to slow enemy attacks down (relieving pressure) and give you the aura benefits that you’ve traited for — protection (more defense), swiftness (escape speed) and fury (more crits to help finish off low-HP enemies).
And the build doesn’t lack for damage, either. With Fire 4 you put up a fire field, which you can then get up to three blast finishers on (and thus 9 stacks of might) with Earth 4 and 5 and Arcane Wave. Earth 5 hits like a mac truck all on its own, but even moreso with your damage boost in Earth (traited) and all that might you have rolling around from switching to fire (trait) and switching in general (sigil).
Make no mistake, you’re still going to have to play harder than that warrior did, and that’s still an issue that needs to be looked into with elementalists. But you can be just as effective in the end result if you play it smart.
I know exactly where you’re coming from. I haven’t looked back since I rerolled guardian after I got my ele to 80, my guardian has now been 80 for a couple weeks and I love it more than anything.
I’m still sitting here waiting for them to finally buff eles enough for me to play her again but I have the feeling it might be a long wait.
I can’t even go out to Orr to try to do area completions because half the reason I rerolled was that it was just no fun to go out and desperately fight for my life while trying to kill a single mob out there. And I don’t agree with the poster who said it’s no fun for any class, because my guardian can go easily take on 3 Orr mobs at a time with no thought of even coming close to dying and move on.
If you still want some heals and support and damage and you want to be much tougher and you’re really rerolling try out the guardian. I still get the support/heals that I wanted when I initially rolled ele and I stay alive much longer.

Elementalist in pve is fine. PvP it could use a couple buffs and much needed bug fixes (namely ride the lightning for one).
If you dont want to use all your abilities to be able to pve, then that’s not the fault of the class. You can’t just sit in fire and faceroll your way to victory like you can on a warrior. Yes, it does take more effort. That’s one of the reasons some of us like the class. It’s more complicated AND more challenging and fun.
There are plenty of other classes that are just hit 3 buttons and win.
I agree with the other person. So many elementalists go full glass cannon and complain about dying all the time kitten Yes you lose some damage when you build for defense. But dead people do zero dps….
I think ele in pve is slightly broken and the dancing attunement trick does little to change that. you get very little benefit for all your hard work
