There is nothing on the icon of the conditions that indicate the different burning effects stack. All it does is refresh the timer of the icon.

So do the different burning effects stack or do they just refresh the burn timer?

They’re like poisons in that respect. Bleed is the only DoT that stacks.

No, its good. Burn does huge damage. If it ticks away full duration thats massive. The only way its redundant is if the target is dead before it was done, but thats usually ok.

In pvp there are a lot of cleanses so you need to keep reapplying too.

Right, but a lot of the spells are low initial damage but adds a DOT. If all of your spells are similar, and the burning effects do not stack, than they are kinda redundant and to minimal effect. Right?

How does the game determine which fire effect is ticking and renewing? Let’s say you applies a weak fire DOT on the first cast (let’s say a simple auto attack), then you cast another spell that has a strong DOT effect. Does the strong DOT supersede the weak DOT or does it just refresh the weak DOT?

How does the game decide what is refreshed?

Your burning damage is based on condition damage and stacks of might. A skill won’t change the damage. If a tooltip says it does more burning damage than another skill, it’s because the duration is longer. And it isn’t redundant to stack it. Longer duration = more ticks.

All burn dots are the same damage if cast by the same person, per tick. All that changes is some spells have different duration (also they have an upfront damage too usually). Duration stacks so the more you pile on the longer it will tick for.

If burning damage stacked it would be way overpowered, its really good damage.

“If there are two unique sources of Burning, the effect with the greater condition damage value will be used until that source ends, at which point, the intensity from the second source is used for the remaining duration.”

Interesting. There seems to be some confusion. Some are saying that all burn effects are the same while the wiki source implies there are different severities of burn effects.

To me, it makes no sense that they are all the same. If that were the case, then there wouldn’t be much of a point of spells having lower front end damage and a DOT instead of just high front end damage. The reason for this is your auto attacks would apply just as good of a DOT.

There are different severities of burned if burning is applied by different people with different stats. If you are only considering your own spells in a solo situation, duration is the only difference.

I stopped being dumb and just looked at the DOTs and compared the damage per second of tick and you’re right, they are all the same.

So, with that in mind, what is the point of the burn effect on Dragon’s Tooth as your periodic auto attacks with a scepter is plenty good enough to keep that DOT up?

Oops, looks like firewall and Fire Shield tick for more but those are not effects applied to the target.

If you obtain might after burning the target, does the buff apply to all dots already placed on the target before the buff? or does it increase the damage on next application?

The damage is calculated always right when it shows on the screen. So let’s say you are burning with Pyromancer’s Puissance and spamming fireball. You’ll the burning you applied before ticking more and more because of the might stacks you slowly gaining.
8.75 damage per stack for every might stack.

In the same way, say you cast eruption and swap to fire and you have 10% extra dmg on fire attunument. Eruption will get that 10% bonus (on direct only ofc) from fire, but not from earth if you had the earth version. (noone mention Lingering Elements as it has nothing to do with these).

And I’ll repeat others. All conditions and all boons do exactly same damage and same bonuses irrelevant of the class played. Depending only of the players stats, and skills vary with the durations and possible stack sizes.
Also don’t be fooled by tooltips on some attacks that refresh it’s effect like Fiery Greatsword #2 or Drake’s Breath which give the total dmg for all ticks but only says part of the duration on the side.

I’ve also noticed that there will only be one burning effect on a target, regardless of how many players are attacking it.

If there are 10 fire elementalists attacking the same target is only one burn ticking between all of them?

Yes. It will likely last a long time but it won’t tick for more.

That just sounds like poor game mechanics when debuffs are so limited. It makes all the effects in the game redundant.
